I have never in my life encountered someone willing to air these kind of thoughts.  They may have thought them, but they wouldn't say them aloud for fear of being thought a sociopath or worse.

Probably the funniest thing I've seen someone from the Park cities say.  I'm sure you've never met someone who didn't think a bit more of themselves than others.   Thank you for the chuckle.

I couldn't gaf less about people from the internet believing this, that, or the other.    I'd be more worried you believe everything you read on here.   Hell we had the smartest guy in the world, PE player who pulled strings all over UT and Austin among other places that had a fucking go fund me set up for his kids after his death.  Let me dumb it down further - not everyone is who they say they are on the internet.

I live in central San Diego, man. Not Del Mar. Not La Jolla. Certainly not Rancho Santa Fe. Not even Poway. Everything you said is absolute bullshit. The demographics at my kids' schools would send you into convulsions. And we fucking love all of it. Better people than we'd ever meet in your neighborhood. So go fuck your own face you massive, unbridled piece of shit. Pathetic excuse for a human being.

No, I wouldn't.  Because I grew up in a neighborhood full of poor illegals with mesquitos and hurricanes and humidity and shit that automatically makes the shittiest living condition in San Diego a better situation.

Sure.

Obama did the exact same thing Trump is doing.

Going after criminals?

"The principal finding of the Times investigation is a damning indictment of an administration that has claimed repeatedly to be targeting the worst of the worst violent, foreign-born criminals. In reality, according to the Times analysis, “two-thirds of the nearly two million deportation cases involve people who had committed minor infractions, including traffic violations, or had no criminal record at all.” In contrast, only “twenty percent—or about 394,000—of the cases involved people convicted of serious crimes, including drug-related offenses, the records show.”

Family separation?

"The Obama administration doubled down on one of its worst immigration legacies: the return and expansion of family detention. Responding to a court order holding that its family detention camps violated the 1997 Flores settlement agreement, the Obama administration Friday again defended family detention as necessary to send a message to Central American families that they are not welcome here—even though it concedes that most of them are fleeing persecution."

Look, guys, I get it. You're pot committed at this point. He's a polarizing dude, and you've chosen your side. Admitting that you were short-sighted, impetuous, and irrational with your votes just ain't happening. It's way too late to acknowledge you've been conned at literally every step. You don't have much of a choice but to put your head down and plow though.

But, c'mon, you can tell us. You didn't think it would be this bad a year in, right? American Gestapo. People getting disappeared to foreign prisons. Staggering incompetence. The complete elimination of a functional Congress. Naked, undeniable racism. Supreme Court supported racial profiling. Epstein. Venezuela. Ballrooms. Copy/pasting Russian documents. Tarriffs. The economy. Saying the dumbest shit imaginable every time he opens his mouth.

...it's gotta make finding tidbits with which to defend the regime exceedingly difficult.

Yep.  That's me.  Well, except for the elite private schooling -- the boy got a couple of years of that because our high school was a disaster for him, but otherwise, they were public school kids.  And yeah, both of my kids count among their dear friends several folks who are nowhere close to as "successful" as we are, including, yep, some refugees and immigrants.

This is also me (well, it's NOT me, actually):

I not only "care" about some people that you might think that way about....I do and have done all of those things with such people.  Eat together, socialize together, am in community with...yep, all of those things.  With people you think are beneath you.

None of them are beneath me.  The only people I see as "beneath me" are those who are purposefully mean and cruel - it's an action-based judgment.

I was blessed with a shitload of things in this life: I was born with certain gifts, I lucked into having parents (both children of poverty, including government assistance) who sacrificed for me.  And I was surrounded by community (school, church, neighborhood, friends) who did the same.  And then a state that invested in me.  I'm a smart, hard-working SOB.  I'm also not a fucking asshole, so I know that without all of that kindness and support, I might be much less successful.  And I hear a lotta talk from folks on the right about being "Christian," but it seems they didn't actually read the Gospels (you know, the actual things that are the Christian texts).  Luke says "to whom much is given, much is required."  Seems I oughta try to live that.

So, yeah, that means breaking bread with people snobs might not associate with.  It means being in real conversation and communion with them, so when they run up against social/government/life impediments they aren't equipped to navigate, I can help and offer advice.  It means giving of my time, talents, and treasure.  I have no idea how much money we've contributed/spent etc. on such people over the years, because that's not the point.  We can help.  So why in the fuck wouldn't we?  And mind you, I think I'm a pretty shitty Christian, and fall far short of what I expect of myself.  But goddamn, man.  I sure as shit ain't "pretending on the internet."  And I know a fair number of folks around here too who (1) speak similarly, and (2) walk the walk (or, like me, try but fall short).

BTW, I've been to Colony Ridge.  Several times (dear lord, the roads heading into the development itself are a mess).  Have you?

I'm saying that you get to be over reactionary now, even though you claim to have voted for tough on crime (including immigration) for decades (iirc).  You get to claim that you've never heard anyone speak with any sense of superiority (classism, racism, intellectualism) while being raised in one of (if not) the wealthiest zip codes in the state, and being VERY well educated by the best public university in the state.   I believe both your newfound reactions and your latest claim to both be bullshit.  But it's the internet.  Maybe you are the one guy raised in a top 5 wealth zip code in Texas who never heard anyone ever say they earned something those across town didn't (classism).  Maybe you were the one multi decade Republican voter that never paid any attention past tax rates.  And maybe you attended an elite public university for (a decade?) without ever hearing anyone speak about how their intelligence is superior to someone else.    But never hearing anyone make a statement that would make you think they are a sociopath?  What a charmed life (Park Cities holla) or load of bullshit statement (internetz)

You know, I can do those things without having utter contempt for those beneath me.

Not all that long ago, my grandparents and their parents were at the absolute bottom of the totem pole.

Some of those people are going to work their way up, and some aren't.  Neither of us knows which.

You walk the walk - I know that.  Outside of a very select few in the Alcoholics thread helping others that are afflicted, it's pretty well crickets around here.  We all need some tax help, we all give money to mobile loaves and the women's shelter and whatever.   I don't equate throwing a few grand a year in the same category as some of your past works (housing, cars, logistics, others I'm forgetting).   '

I don't think the people you help are beneath me.  I also don't think they should get a free pass to America over others just because.  And I believe we are out of the CR so I'll let it alone, but administrations in general should not be openly calling for abuse of our asylum laws      AND     these ICE dickheads should not be pushing down abuelas and taking little kids AND should never be disappearing citizens (WTF?)   But the pendulum swings further each election cycle, and I have a feeling you'll be getting your wish on immigration in '28.

You call it contempt, but neither one of lives near our lawn crews.   Or the janitor at work.  Coincidence, probably.  I understand you feel better by not saying that out loud on a message board - that doesn't change the fact.

Statistically, almost everyone's grandparents were.  Those who weren't are probably mostly wealthy now.

For every story about the guy who started with one pressure washer and became a multimillionaire, there is a thousand that were well educated and continued to build their family's wealth.   Neither of us knows who the next pressure washer guy will be, we have a pretty good idea on who will continue to build generational wealth.

You express pure contempt for the poor as if every single one of them is permanently poor and if any of them are striving, they're still fucked up because they left their country of origin, just like your forebears did.

I don't have to live next door to my lawn crew or invite them to dinner to respect them as human beings with a certain dignity.

You can actually strive to better yourself without shitting on people you leave behind.

Imagine indeed.

My inlaws came from Mexico in the late 70's or so. Early enough to be granted amnesty under Reagan. All three of their kids graduated from college and have normal everyday careers. Our kids go to private school with kids who's family names every Texan on this board would immediately recognize. My parents worked minimum wage restaurant and convenience store jobs when they first arrived in this country. So according to some here, they’re trash eh? To think just because many of us here have accomplished some semblance (subjective) of success that means we don’t care about those in our society new to the country or still struggling to make it. News flash, some of the struggle and progress is likely generational. For fuck’s sake… you would think the fake ass commercial season of caring we’re bombarded with would at least seep into some.

I always try to assume positive with people, and the best I can hope for is that some of y’all spout this bullshit to get a rise from others, because that’s what gives you pleasure, and you’re not really that big of an asshole in real life.

That's how it works when it's successful - The American Dream.    Would you like to hear my anecdotal story of what it looks like when it doesn't work, because I got a really good up close and personal look for about 17 years.   It's foolish to believe it'll work 10's and 10's of millions of times over, but something we should strive for with controls to expedite those types of successes.

I'd only request you find that particular receipt.   Pretty sure that I have not typed that.

It's foolish to believe it'll work 10's and 10's of millions of times over, but something we should strive for with controls to expedite those types of successes.

Good lord. This is so dumb

That's literally the story of America for the last four hundred years, you idiot. America was built by those people you despise. You were built by them. If you want to see the best argument about how it doesn't work, go wander off into your bathroom and take a good long look in the mirror.

Lol.   Literal use of the acronym.

The internal machinations of the Democratic Party are fascism now.

Interdasting.

I'm just gonna bet that you didn't know that there were no primary elections in America until 1890.

Meh, it's a legitimate criticism. Progressives spent about 100 years trying to force the parties to allow popular representation of some sort on who their nominee would be, only for the Democrats to basically lie about their preferred candidate's (real or percieved) fitness for office and then turn around and nominate the candidate who basically came in at last place during the previous election. They basically told the average electorate that they believe in democracy until they don't. That is a huge betrayal of trust for the party and was likely a significant driver to get us to the place we are at now.  You can cry (and probably rightfully) that voters should have known what the alternative was and should have voted democratic anyways because of the stakes, but that very attitude is counterproductive itself. You create an us vs them dichotomy and tell people that there are only two choices and they for the most part believe you after a while. And then when you make them feel like you betrayed their trust, well you've pretty much unintentionally written your own tragedy.

No they are the pieces of shit they say they are and proud of it. Beneath me trash because you are a dishwasher or some shit is on brand and insane. The only legal job my great grandpa had after coming from Mexico was being a janitor at Abilene High School for 30 years after he got his citizenship. My grandma was a cook/dishwasher/cleaning lady all her life. Fatty needs an ass beating calling them and people like them trash

Cool.

None of that, in any way, shape, or form, resembles "fascism".

None of us--or anyone outside his family, probably--had any say over Joe Biden's decision making process. He chose poorly. Democrats made what they felt was the best decision in a sea of pretty imperfect options given their time constraints. Voters were free to express their disapproval at the nomination per the democratic process. Many apparently did, standing by their principles to honor the established norms by helping to elect known election norm follower Donald Trump. I hope they are thoroughly satisfied with how things turned out for them and the country.
