It absolutely benefits us the longer the war goes on.

We are watching one of our enemies implode before our very eyes. The entire world, especially Gyna, is witnessing our decades old equipment wiping the map with russian blood.

This conflict has and still is setting the tone for the next 50 years of global stability and power.

When it's all over the US will be sitting at the top once again. Like we ever left, but there won't be any questions about who is king cock of the block.

Yeah, right. Peace for 50 years. What planet do you live on?

Compare that to how Obama handled the annexation of Crimea and the installation of thugs in Donbas (no Cloak Room - he was under a mandate to get us out of conflicts - not get us into new ones) or Trump’s narrative around the conflict specifically and NATO in general.

Obama’s mandate was his own making Afghanistan not Iraq was his message during the campaign. His mandate was never to get us out of all conflicts.

Just to correct a big mistake in that tweet: In Belarus, Hungary, Russia, and Ukraine an odd number of flowers are presented to living people and an even number of flowers are brought to commemorate people who passed away.

Biden seems to be still, more or less, on the "help but don't help too much because nukes are scary."

I get it. Imagine a guy like Prigozhin with nukes.  Lest we forget, he still thought he could win Ukraine if he was in charge.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but I get that a guy like Prigozhin with nukes could be as bad as Putin.

I’m at sea so it isn’t easy to read. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you were saying. After this war any power shift will be temporary. No one and everyone wants a single super power. It invites mistrust and will never create stability, no matter how benevolent that super power’s motives.

The better outcome is the strengthening of NATO. That should help with Europe and Africa. OTOH, NATO will weaken again when China or Iraq come to the forefront. There will always be ebbs and flows in power so don’t expect things to be any better, safer, or different than they have been. The only constant in civilization is that human nature runs counter to civility.

Grenades, if you watch at 0:48-0:51, you'll see Ukrainian troops are actually there throwing them.

I've been fishing before and doing quite well at some spot I found along a bank and then a boatload of assholes comes up and either runs the fish off or wants to fish there even though they have the rest of the river/lake to fish from, so I can sympathize.

You know what really bothers me about these videos of Russians getting blown all to hell?

Not a single goddamned thing.

Wait, check that -- what bothers me is that there aren't nearly enough of these videos.

Here you go

So? What does that have to do with his terrible ties? Most gay guys I know are pretty fashion conscious, as well. Not looking like they raided the closet of someone who died in the 80s.

And some dress like a bow-tied Captain Kangaroo on acid. Regardless, your allyship has been noted. Seriously though, I think Zeihan is extremely competent and I celebrate the man's entire catalogue in spite of his terrible hair and questionable sartorial styling.

Why? Because of the eye patch? Or is it hard to flip pages with a hook for a hand?

Both were a problem but since an unfortunate accident in the restroom, it’s just the eye patch. I don’t really need it. It just makes me look a little debonair, especially when I wear a long jacket.

- and the waves - and needing to see at a distance - so no reading glasses - and glare from the sun and water. It is a little easier now because we are moored for the night.

And by the way, I don't think that term has ever been more accurate in this thread than that post.  His hang-time wasn't that impressive but he was blown up(ward).

Everyone has a nickname as a child. It’s just nice that little “Tank Turret” met his end in a way that made his loved ones smile.

OK I see that now. So now to the orc that had a great vault but failed to stick landing... I think he was already dead before launch but question is what blew him 30 ft in the air?  Had to be something a little stronger than a grenade right?

Of all the crazy footage that one ranks up there.

I'm torn. On one hand I do enjoy seeing invaders being blown to bits, but on the other I still feel sad for humanity. I have to think not all of the men getting wasted want to be there but have the only choice to either be shot from the front or from the back.

Meh. They and their families cheer it on. They want to exterminate Ukraine and Ukrainians. Seriously, the support for the goal of the war is solid in Russia.

They’re just getting what’s coming to them.

Skeptical.  Who builds (or can build) shit this fast?
Motivated builders / excavators in our USA don’t get shit like this done in less than a week, but these chuckleheads are working round the clock to get er dun?

If it's a tent (think canvas) city or containers or prefabs, it can be done fast - US military does it all the time.

But then again, that's the US military and the logistics folks are fucking wizards.  I'm surprised that the Belarusians can scrounge together such infrastructure, I figure it would have all been shipped to Russia.

That was a little harder to watch than most Russian soldier death porn.

It's clear the dude was in agony, and there is nothing pleasant about that, but they are invaders and they have the option to turn their weapons on their commanders and/or figure out how to surrender.

I will say it's fucking crazy that this thread (and the various subreddits and other forums) has access to more death and destruction than LiveLeak and Ogrish had at their peaks, and unlike LiveLeak and Ogrish, a lot of the stuff we are watching is in HD.

It's desensitizing the shit out of a lot of us, for better or for worse.  On the flip side - I think a lot of people should see the death and destruction that the Russians have brought to Ukraine, and be forced to at the very least acknowledge it, or at the worst defend it if they don't support Ukraine.  I'm not talking about some kind of Clockwork Orange "eyes forced wide open" kind of thing, mind you.

My best guess is that it was some sort of underwater mine. Remember how there were warnings that a bunch of them were getting sloshed around with the flooding a couple of weeks ago? That area he was trying to take cover in looks like a spot where a washed-up mine could have settled, especially given the flow of the river which you can detect by seeing their boat start to float away once they'd bailed.

Edit: And you can easily tell that area had been flooded because of the upside down, aquamarine pontoon boat on shore and the smaller brush pushed over.

I think the point was to speculate on the veracity of this being an unplanned surprise action and cast doubt on that Russian narrative. On the other hand if it was planned it probably would have went worse based on Russian logistics. So ?

Drunk, corrupt enemy with a shit load of semi operational weapons is hard to read.

Could be that they had the stuff lying around in case of an emergency - most governments have something they can throw together for people in an emergency/natural disaster/whatever.

Just imagine if they are moving Wagner into Belarus in order to form the core of secret police in order to either keep Lukashenko in power, of if he's truly sick, to be ready to put down any opposition to Putin's hand-picked successor to Lukashenko.  Wagner had no problem brutally killing/raping/etc. Ukrainians, who they were told were just brothers from another mother, so I'd imagine the same would hold true to Belorussians who would oppose Lukashenko's successor.

This.  They have shown what they are willing to do to Ukraine cities and civilians.  The kidnappings, rape, murder, torture, destruction of homes, schools, buildings, and hospitals, shelling of civilians and evacuation routes, treatment of POWs, mining a nuke plant, and blowing up a dam.  Putting in so many landmines in habited locations will be threats to generations to come, in addition to the UXOs that are littering the cities.    So while watching an individual suffer is a little much,  he made his choice.  He 'joined' this.  He didn't turn that rifle on his commander, he didn't surrender.  He participated in this war machine.    So while he might not have raped a mom and forced the son to watch, he helped, he stood guard, he was an obstacle, and he diverted resources to deal with him.

So if he dies, he dies.

In the Zaporozhye direction, the ZSU continues its counter-offensive operation and is having success... On the Staromlyniv section of the front on the Rivnopil-Volodyne line, our soldiers managed to break through the orc defenses and advance quite a lot. Now the armed forces are clearing the territory and securing new positions. ..
