Camp Swamp Road from the Journal is a pretty interesting podcast. Not exactly on point but does capture how the gun culture will warp everything, and particularly stand your ground laws. I'm enjoying it, but it sure feels like a different America.

Markets still falling like whoa
Captainant replied to Llano Estacado's topic in Business and Markets
The reality is that the wealthiest people have NO income. Jeff fuckin Bezos qualified for childcare assistance credits because his income was so low. Their value is all in stocks that have grown, which they can liquidate tax-free through taking loans against the paper value. And then when they can goose the stock up they renegotiate their loans and keep the debt cycle going. Alllllll tax-free, of course. -
What's realistic at catcher? Higashioka is under contract for $6.75 million next season, I'm fine with him as a backup/extra bat. Anyone think that Hiem shouldn't be non-tendered or traded?

Could this be the craziest coaching carousel of all time?
Texas Wahoo replied to GreenspointTexas's topic in Football
James Franklin has played 30 games against top 10 teams, and 25 of them have come as the head coach at Penn State. The original numbers BO&W did not include his 0-5 record while at Vanderbilt. -
you win the internet for today! congrats. fuck it, i'll grant you all time GOAT status too!

I haven't watched Stroh's every snap, but it appears that he's okay in pass pro and a liability with run blocking. As noted by errbody, he's got bad feet. Plays that require him to move in space ain't happening for him.

I wasn't raising the wealth tax issue. although I could see taxable debt as a thing.

Back when I lived above a bar in downtown Houston (20 years ago before moving to Austin) a buddy and I rode our bikes from downtown to Hermann Park drinking the whole way- vodka/drank in multiple water bottles with a stop at the Smith St. Spec's to load up a bit more. When we got to Hermann Park we commandeered a golf cart from the tournament that was in progress. We drove the cart around the course and various non-golf parts of the park getting absolutely hammered for a couple of hours- it was one of those gorgeous spring days that you only get a handful of in Houston. Great time. After that we rode our bikes down to Valhalla for (a bar on the Rice campus) a few beers and then over to The Ginger Man... and then bike/bar hopped back to downtown w/out getting run over somehow. Anyway, that was the last time I was in Hermann Park. /csb MIA- definitely take advantage of your location as much as you're able and keep kicking cancer's ass!

Great acceleration, great awareness of the boundaries, shiftiness, coordination and hands. Someone needs to see if he has any remaining eligibility.

FWIW, I heard Nadel on Friday on 105.3 and he said (with the usual disclaimer that he hasn't asked him directly) that he would be very surprised if Bochy wasn't back based on their conversations.

U.S. Beef Industry in absolute crisis

In another sign of where we are at sentiment, I had my first client tell me he wants to put down fresh concrete for his feedlot pens. -
Sure. That's why I'd sign an ace (it would be Sale). I laid out optmist case scenario for Ullola, Blubaugh, Javier and Arrighetti. If you sign an ace you need one of those guys to hit in a big way and 2 of them to not be terrible. That's a reasonable bet, to my way of thinking. What you don't have is a hammer other than Brown. If you are going to win the WS you need 3 or 4 stud arms (2 SP and 2 back end of the bullpen guys) and you need 4 or 5 other dudes you can trust. What I see is 3 studs and plenty enough to pick from where I think by playoff time we can fill in the other 4 or 5 dudes you can trust. I'm just not worried about it. You are missing one of the studs. Go get one.

Been hearing about Sark wanting to run IZ from day one, but it has not happened. To be honest it is not unreasonable for Sark to believe the staff could develop an OL in 5 years that can run IZ. The excuses have varied from young OL to RB. At some point you have to ask if Flood's proficiency lies elsewhere. The only thing that has been a constant under Sark and Flood is the OL has been a finesse OL (screeners vs road graders). It is the biggest reason the redzone has been a major issue under Sark, when he does not have RBs that can hide the issues.
-
These are not the knees and hamstrings of guys that run a lot.

Monday: Bobby Bobby didn't specifically state the OL is reverting to the same five we had prior to Huston playing at LG, but here's the quote.

Not like that at all. I lived in Budapest and in Eastern Czech Republic for over a year right when the wall came down. People were poor. Some jobs were available but not everyone had work. So people without work remember the days when Russia provided for them regardless of their job status. Of course young people with jobs are much better off under capitalism, but the old and the stupid may not be. In any case, it is an individual economic determination that people use in their thought process (can I put food on the table), not necessarily a country-wide prosperity thought process, and most definitely nothing like the neo-confederate thought process.
