  1. Half decent line on SNL Weekend Update this weekend about this. "Lady, if your son is watching the Hallmark Channel, he's already gay."

  2. dude.... we just went 7 and fucking 5 after coming into the year with playoff aspirations. two of our biggest recruiting rivals are in the college football playoff while we're pretending like the alamo bowl has any sort of significance whatsoever. herman had to basically fire every coach on the staff in response to this with apparently no plan whatsoever to replace them. we're going into national signing day without and offensive fucking coordinator and losing important recruits because of it. ...but you say we're melting down for no reason. right.

  4. Am I the only one who isnt freaking out about losing a recruit? It happens every time a coaching change happens. I also think its weird to be panicked over 7/8 wins in year 3. I don't see it as a huge regression. 2018 was us being extremely lucky in all facets of the game, most importantly turnovers and injuries. In 2019 we were extremely unlucky. Its not like we had achieved dominance and then lost it. We lost games to 2 playoff teams, Rhule, Campbell and Patterson, with a young and extremely injured defense. We were never a playoff team no matter what this year. All the analysts "underestimating" Texas this year saying we were going to be mediocre were right because of obvious, measurable reasons. So why are people melting down? We will have a new defense and fresh eyes on offense. Our supposed stud WR recruits might actually do something now that Mehringer is gone.

  6. Our OL is still being shit on way too much around here. They were asked to block the same running play 35 times per game while our RB's alignment told the defense when it might be a run. Then they were asked to pass block for a QB with limited route progression ability while our RB's alignment guaranteed it was a pass play, not to mention as defenses figured out our limited route combinations and sat on routes. They weren't world-beaters but they certainly weren't the main issue with the offense like we've been used to the last several seasons.

  7. This all reminds me of something I didn’t post in October because I got depressed from watching the games and decommitments. I have a good friend that played CFB with Neal Brown. They’ve remained buddies. Brown ends up hosting my friend and a couple of their other college friends for the next WVU home game after Texas. My buddy comes back from the trip, my wife and I and he and his wife go out for dinner. He tells several Holgerson legend stories from WVU that Brown inherited and then he starts talking about Tom Herman. Brown has now interacted with Herman during the Big 12 media stuff in the summer and the week of the UT/WVU game. Said two things about Herman stand out: 1) He’s completely destestable. Can’t figure out how this guy ever signs a recruit or got a HC gig, much less another one at Texas. He’s Shooter McGavin with a HC gig and 2) He’s a total fucking meathead. He’s like shockingly stupid and comes across as though he thinks he’s highly intelligent but has nothing behind that with anything he ever says. Anyway, both of those things mesh with what I’ve seen in limited exposure personally and everything we hear these days from the rumors and journalists.

  8. Herman was a super popular hire all-around at the time. Yes there were dissenters as there always are, but if Herman had gone to LSU the shag would have had a collective aneurysm about losing out on him and how we should have fired Charlie midseason just to get a head start on sending dumptrucks of money to Herman's house.

  9. "Vox Media will end contracts with about 200 people, including non-California freelancers who cover teams based in the state, and replace them with 20 new part-time and full-time staffers, according to a source familiar with the decision." This was the entire point of the law. It's almost a certainty that the 20 new "real" jobs created will pay more in total comp than the 200 freelancers made. Oh noez - the law is forcing companies to stop exploiting loopholes and give people real jobs with benefits!!! California economy will collapse any day now. tl;dr: EMAW is an idiot with the intellectual rigor and curiosity of a tree stump. Post this on your Facebook, dumb fuck. We aren't your stupid hick friends.

  10. Fuck anyone who ever roots for the team to lose. Root for recent photos of Herman snorting coke off a male strippers ass to surface in order to get him fired but don’t ever root against the team.

  11. Spot on. HOWEVER, most of the posters on here conveniently forget that they were 100% on board then. Now they're trying to outdo each other in spewing vitriol. Truth is, none of us really knows what's going on. Like everybody else, I I'm confused and disappointed in the way this is coming down. I think it's stupid not to have your OC and DC locked up and recruiting before NSD1. Big mistake. Is it possible that somebody will be announced as OC that will blow our socks off? Yes. Do I think that will happen? No. But the point is, I don't know and neither does anybody else outside what's apparently a really tight inner circle. But, man, we're Surly and we absolutely refuse to let ignorance stand in the way of our bitching.

  15. Just got home and read trump’s unhinged and insane letter on official stationary. One for all future generations to read and ponder. While definitely concerning that the president is a complete lunatic, I personally am a little more concerned about the FBI’s FISA abuse of one Carter Page. So are some other posters on this very board.

  17. Am I optimistic? I'm ignorant and patient. I don't look forward to the games because they're always shit fights no matter who we're playing. We never put the weak away and find a way to lose to some of them. We show maddeningly sporadic effort on offense where we start running out the clock at the end of the third quarter instead of sticking with what had been scoring. Herman is rigid in his approach as though football is a science. I do put my hopes in Herman changing in response to failure. What else is there to hope for? He's here. I'm a Longhorn. I hope we succeed. Had he been fired, I'd have no choice but to my hopes in the new coach. Hope does not equal optimism. A man walking up the gallows steps hopes he will get a reprieve. I doubt that man is optimistic. Around here, there is a mentality that if you don't join in by parroting the grimmest appraisals then you must be a pollyanna sunshine pumper. I'm not that. I thought we were on our way after the win over Georgia. I did not expect the grim death march through the end of the season where I turned on the TV largely expecting us to lose even though we should have been winning. I've explained myself enough on the other thread and now here. People can believe what they like. I've written all I care to about it.

  18. My wife phones me on the way home from work Friday afternoon, "My car is almost out of gas. It's beeping at me and I think I'm going to run out." Me: Uh... why don't you stop and get gas? Wife: It's really freaking me out. I"m afraid it's going to run out. It went from telling me that I had 40 miles to go and then it just changed to 25 miles to go, and now it's just beeping at me. It's never done this before. Me: Where are you? Wife: Pulling into the driveway at the house. Important side note: we live about one-half mile from a gas station. It is literally right down our street. You don't even have to turn to get there, other than turning into the gas station. She also had to pass at least ten other fucking gas stations on the way from her office to the house.

  19. First, you call your political opponents "human scum." Next, you do absolutely nothing to help workers, and completely ignore issues with independent contractors including lack of benefits such as health insurance. Then, you make sure to torpedo the ACA, which many (most?) freelancers use. Then you bitch and moan about the other side's attempts to fix these problems, without offering any solutions or legislation of your own, or even acknowledging that there's a problem. And then you win some more elections by lying to the American public about what you've done while fearmongering.

  27. Well, we've had 6 decommits since the midpoint of the season. More than a quarter of the class. That's really bad. Granted, we've recruited well enough the two previous cycles that we don't need this one to be successful in 2020 and 2021, if we have a great class next year. That 'if' is the reason everyone is freaking out. Win the conference and we're off to the races, but that isn't looking likely. Herman has shown no capacity for self-evaluation. Without the changes we need, we win 7-9 next year and waste an outrageously talented 2021 recruiting class in Texas. I don't think I've seen you on the recruiting board, but it's a mistake to be so casual about recruiting losses. College football is an arms race. The elite prospects we lose next year will go to LSU, OU, Baylor, etc. and bite us in the ass later. And the guys from the 18 and 19 classes leave us. That's how you get stuck in mediocrity. Even just looking at the 6 guys we lost this cycle, statistically, would have turned out to be something like 1 star, 1 solid starter, and a couple solid rotation guys. Some of them were unavoidable, but Johnston wasn't. Herman just needed to make a hire in two weeks and we probably hang on. Instead, we're literally at square one for our offensive staff, 16 days later, except now the pool of available coaches has shrunk significantly because every other school has approached their vacancies with the sense of urgency that should be expected.

  28. Looking back, I don't think I'll ever understand how in the fuck 2018 happened. I think it confused everyone, from Sam Ehlinger to every poster on this board. Just bizarre. I do find the declarations from people on this thread that "everyone on this board was fully in favor of Tom Herman this time last year" to be fucking stupid, for multiple reasons. 1) Who gives a shit if everyone, using the data they had in front of them, drew conclusions that things were headed in the right direction? New shit comes to light. Only fucking idiots will stick to a prior position after new data invalidates their prior belief. It's called learning. Crowing that people here were bullish and now they aren't merely highlights your own idiocy. This is a fan board - no shit people were excited by 10 wins and a Sugar Bowl win. 2) The absolutes like "everyone" and "completely" aren't true. We weren't all fired up by the hire. I know I was hopeful that Justin Fuente (not saying that was right either, clearly) would be the guy and I wasn't impressed with Herman in my own local and personal interactions with him in Houston, or specifically, the neighborhood we lived in. Multiple people questioned the guy's 2016 season, calling into the radio to argue with sports talk guys, and the speed in which he was being vaulted onto the national stage. Beyond that, what's the fucking problem with people deigning to get excited about a new hire? Especially after Chucklefuck took a giant dump on the program for 3 years. 3) Predicting the future in anything is difficult. Does that invalidate everyone's current views, opinions and feelings? Does it make someone unwilling to take a position or espouse a view somehow superior? No. It makes them boring and bandwidth drain.
