I'm familiar with horseshoe theory, and it's complete nonsense used by centrists to help them ignore the fact that they are closer to fascism than they want to admit and to allow themselves to not have to deal with the fact that there are people to their left. It's how people with garbage politics and economic ideas convince themselves that they are actually very progressive when they support disenfranchising/imprisoning blacks, maintaining crushing economic inequality, allowing the wealthy to rape our economy in general, and every other hallmark of the Blue Dog/Macron horde.

Let me give you an example of how stupid horseshoe theory is as an explanatory framework, and I'll use a common and local one for us.

In 2008, Obama ran to Hillary's left. Hillary->McCain voters were about 17-25% when the further left candidate won primary.
In 2016, Bernie ran to Hillary's left. Bernie->Trump voters were about 8-12% when the further right candidate won the primary.

If horseshoe theory was legitimate, those numbers would be inverse. But they're not, because the left-to-right spectrum is a better representation of how political ideology functions.

Horseshoe theory is almost exclusively about tone, not policy. It's indefensible on policy terms, but the centrist (i.e., one who values everyone being nice and calm over having any policy values or beliefs) sees two people shouting and thinks, "Those people are the same, because they're shouting."

Centrists are basically as stupid as dogs, is the larger overall point, and horseshoe theory is something they use to make themselves think being dumb is Smart, Actually.

I laid out a series of questions that would establish whether or not Tulsi is a Russian agent...

Can you answer them?

No need to read past the first sentence.  I'm no political scientist, but a casual understanding informs that you've got it backwards and wrong.  Horseshoe theory speaks more to psychological bearings than policy.  The further left or right you go, you tend to find more ideological purists, less tolerance, and greater vulnerability to accepting an ends justifies the means over a process that is more moderate, diverse, and gradual to change.  The former is more prone to acceding to totalitarianism, and systemic breakdown and chaos for change, i.e. fascism.  Combine into someone being an agent of systemic chaos with being a con artist skilled at inciting and duping people and the result is that a wider net is cast, i.e. Trump.

This is nonsense. Saying that the left is "more prone to acceding to totalitarianism" and "fascism" is right-wing propaganda.

The left is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-gendered movement at its core and its uniting principle is economic class. The right is a patriarchal monoculture.

lso, Trump is not an ideological purist of any kind. Trump is a megalomaniac and his following and appeal have no ideological absolutes. He is the opposite of a purity test.

"What if being an anti-fascist was the same as being a fascist!?"

You're who Niemoller was writing about.

Psychologically, the center is closely aligned with the right in that it values cultural stasis more than the left does. The center wrings its hands at every social or cultural change and is ~*~ vErY cOnCeRnEd ~*~ about progress. "Oh I don't think the country's ready for <X>" is the centrist cry while the right says "<X> ain't gonna happen in MY country!"

Saudi Arabia gave the Clinton Foundation tens of millions of dollars and, while Secretary of State, Clinton repeatedly declined the opportunity to decry Saudi abuse of women/others and pressed forward the sale of billions of dollars in arms used to murder innocent people. In the WikiLeaks e-mail she outright admitted that Saudi was held to a different standard.

Is that an asset to the House of Saud or not? yes/no

Just trying to figure out exactly what you're accusing her of.

"There have been no roll call votes related to this bill."

The Global Magnitsky Act of 2016 never went to the House floor as a standalone bill. It was folded into 2017 National Defense Authorization Act. She was 1 of 142 Democrats to vote against it.

Was there another Global Magnitsky Act introduced to the House in the 114th Congress that went to the floor?

Both Beto and Castro voted no.  Didn’t sanders also? Sure are a lot of Russian assets in the dem primary. Good thing granny’s here to referee the whole thing.

Just remember don’t post a roll eyes gif in response to somebody questioning your allegiance to the country, otherwise you are just trolling.

I don’t give two shits about anything in this thread, I just wanted to say I was right off camera and behind the local Birmingham news reporter who asked Beto the question about Tulsi.

Had you yelled "muledick" or "Craig James Killed Five Hookers" in the background you would be a Shaggy Legend right now.

If you can't read between the lines of what Sen. Clinton said and deduce rather easily and quickly that it was Tulsi out of the 5 women possible...you don't belong in politics even at a volunteer level.  You show me where it was Williamson in that syntax and I'll come down to Alabama to volunteer for Beto with y'all...

Democrats have dog whistles too, you know.  They're just not as asshole-ish as Trump's...

Sanders voted for the Global Magnitsky Act in the 114th because it came before the Senate (but apparently not before the House, so I think that guy is ... mistaken ... in claiming Tulsi voted against the Global Magnitsky Act in 12/2016).

Bernard voted against the 2012 version which was designed to sabotage the Iran deal and not even really do anything. He voted for the strengthened globalized version that wasn't designed to sabotage the Iran nuclear deal.

Her work with Beto in Alabama is awesome and everyone who isn't a Republican should be volunteering.

Solidarity with everyone out there trying to make the world a better place (i.e., not a Republican/libertarian). The world would be a hell of a lot better with more Bama Chicks.

Let's all hit each other all day, but volunteering is kickass and Very Cool.

My question remains---how the fuck are Hillary's comments about anybody else but Tulsi?  Shut the fuck up and answer one fucking question in your lifetime in politics.

Who else could she possibly be talking about you fucking child?  That was the genesis of my comment.  People said maybe she's talking about somebody else and I cannot believe this board is that stupid/naive.

Is she doesn’t disavow Russian meddling that supports her campaign, that is essentially approval.

Approval of Russian support while touting their policies. Seems rather obvious.

I had forgotten about this story from 2017.

Democrats were silent on Thursday as Tulsi Gabbard, one of the party’s sitting lawmakers in Congress, announced that she had met with Bashar al-Assad during a trip to war-torn Syria and dismissed his entire opposition as “terrorists”.

Democratic leaders were mum on the decision by one of their sitting lawmakers to meet with a dictator whom the US government has dubbed a war criminal for his use of chemical weapons against civilians.

Gabbard’s trip raised alarms over a potential violation of the Logan Act, a federal statute barring unauthorized individuals from conferring with a foreign government involved in a dispute with the US. The US currently has no diplomatic relations with Syria.”

I'm so confused. Everyone actually thinks Gabbard is some sort of Russian spy but no one seems to care that her and her family (who also run her campaign) are quite literally members of a god damn cult, led by this guy:

She's not a Russian agent you rubes, she's just a fucking weirdo who believes a guy named Chris is the messiah and has shitty opinions on foreign policy.

Tulsi is a really shitty candidate running a really shitty campaign. Her overall motives are murky and questionable.

That said, any person, pundit, media personality that is taking Hillary’s side on this conspiratorial bullshit regarding Tulsi should be ashamed of themselves. And in totality it makes me question anything they say/think about politics or a particular candidate in general.

Though the #Resistance might have been started in good faith based on some defensive belief of American exceptionalism, it has transformed into the liberal version of Trumpism.

Stop falling for this bullshit.

All of this.

It is beyond an underachievement for Tulsi to be polling at or below 3% despite occupying a lane all to herself.

The high stakes of removing Trump have driven normally sane democratic voters out of their goddamned minds. I know because I am one of them sometimes.

Oh yes it is. If it wasn't for her, this thread wouldn't exist and instead the Tulsi thread on page 3 would have been bumped once or twice after the debate and then sent back to page 3.

Let's ignore the material stuff like the policies of the former admin which got a lot of people killed in Syria - policies that Tulsi seeks to critique - and focus on the much more important fact that Tucker Carlson is a big ol' racist meanie.

Yes, because Tucker, the rest of the FOX News team, right wing media in general, and Republicans are deep down just magnanimous humanitarians who love and value all people, regardless of skin color.  They have a well-established record of demanding accountability when harm comes to brown people.  This socialist smear campaign must stop!

It would be risible to claim that either party is describable by those terms.   Even in this day and age the lives of the people over there are equally worthless to both parties.

Maybe, but it's true.  Political hay is what the left uses people of color for (always has as a matter of fact).  Hypocritical party is hypocritical party.

So it might be complete bullshit but it's true?  That makes no sense.

It IS complete bullshit.  Modern Republicans across the board don't give a damn about brown people in cages, brown people trying to vote, and in particular brown people who pray 5 times a day.  If you did care about those people, you wouldn't be a Republican.  These are facts.

It's bullshit that people and or parties would do such a thing, but they've been doing it for decades.
