  1. These athletes don’t know how to do it. You don’t reject the invitation. You accept it. You fly to DC. You make sure the media is there to greet your limos as they arrive at the White House. And then you hold an impromptu press conference outside the fence, criticizing the President, rejecting his invitation, and calling him a “big, fat loser” on national TV. Then you announce that the team is heading over to dinner at Elizabeth Warren’s residence, get back in the limos, and drive off.

  2. Recent history is replete with instances of dead or suffering children changing public perception. Just a couple of instances: The image itself has the power to change perceptions. It is what is framing a debate today. It is newsworthy. And the Statesman would have done its readers a disservice had it opted not to publish it.

  3. There is a lot of recent bullshit in this thread. 1) Just because a coach fucking sucks at recruiting, it doesn’t mean he’s probably excellent at coaching. This isn’t PS4 or XBox where you have to allocate talent attributes in one direction or another. Warehime and Mehringer were shopped after year one and both were publicly fucking demoted. They have no history of performance anywhere. Drayton was lauded, but what have we witnessed that shows much? We saw terrible fucking personnel decisions in games for the first 14 games this guy was here and then he was forcibly told to stop sending Porter in. Young has regressed. Carter was thrown into the doghouse from day one, and he was a turd, but it is lazy coaching to just write a fucking guy off and be done with it. It was also Drayton’s choice to take Carter over Benjamin. Giles has been covered and if anyone believes that lazy fuck is an excellent coach, they’re doing so out of personal psychological need. 2) Tom Herman isn’t a paragon of virtue. He isn’t attempting anything on his own that accounts for integrity in recruiting. There is an entrenched culture at Texas, much as there is at ND and Michigan, that views dirty recruiting as shamefully beneath the org and getting past that isn’t a simple matter of will. 3) If Texas doesn’t land Broughton, there is no spin to be had. None. It’s a big fucking loss at a need spot with a guy who can help a program win titles. Anyone that spins that miss in any way should be negged into a banning, and then hunted down offline, wrapped in a burlap sack, and beaten with reeds for their insolence.

  4. Go back to the football board with this stupid horseshit. I'm too lazy to go past the first 2 hits on google but these should at least help you see that this isn't some fucking TexAgs new angle. and I quote myself from June 11th Perhaps March 25th is better? Godfuckingdamn, we need a mod on the recruiting board that has a ruthless banhammer for the sub. Be better than this shit or STFU and go back to CR or Football or wherever, grownups are talking.

  6. Awesome. He basically said he's glad McCain is dead. Im glad he said that. I'll be glad when he's dead. And when I feel a morsel of shame for that I'll just remember that he couldn't restrain himself from feuding with a dead guy who was ten times the man he ever could've been. He's the most classless piece of shit in world history. If Chapo Guzman could get over a million tons of cocaine across the border I can definitely find a way to get one vile of piss within pouring distance of his grave.

  9. It's like a broken record. Yes, Obama responded poorly to a sudden crisis in 2014. On this specific issue, his administration used family detention for a year to handle an influx for which we weren't prepared. The GOP Congress, of course, did nothing. Liberal activists brought the problems to public attention and the courts, Dems in Congress pushed for the end of the policy, the Obama administration made some changes, and the courts brought the whole thing to a halt, within about a year. Problems continued through the final days of his presidency, to be sure, but within the framework of trying to comply with court orders and the limitations imposed by laws that Congress was refusing to change. Trump has now revived the dead, awful 2014 policy with cruel intention, despite much lower numbers of immigrants than Obama was facing, purely because he wants to make them suffer. New policy. Trump ended the program for releasing families under which 99% showed up for their hearings. New policy. Trump started charging parents, who were already within the civil deportation process, with a misdemeanor for the express, cruel purpose of stripping their children away from them, overloading the detention facilities even more. New policy. Trump massively cut the processing of legal asylum seekers at ports of entry, resulting in more illegal border crossings from people who tried to do it legally, who then get thrown into camps or die like the father and daughter on the last page. New policy. And, together, part of a much broader policy of dehumanization and punishment for people who are fleeing life-threatening conditions in their countries. I don't have a problem with someone who criticizes Obama's policies. I criticize them too. But those who do so, without ever posting standalone criticisms of Trump's much worse policies, are painfully transparent. As are those who try to pretend that they are "the same," when Trump's policies are harsher and more cruel on every possible comparison. And by design, as Trump explicitly ran on reversing what he characterized as Obama's softness on immigration.

  12. Can we just speak frankly for a minute, because we seem to be dancing around something important. Is it that you think a photograph of a dead child should never be photographed, no matter how newsworthy? Or is it instead that you don't want to see a photograph that lays bare the consequences of our country's abhorrent and inhumane treatment of refugees?

  16. LOL. Take notice of what? This is ridiculous. Back to back top 5 classes and the football team is winning again. I’m sure CDC is on the edge of his seat checking where Kelee Ringo is going. Give me a break. Following recruiting is like following your 401k. You should really not even pay attention to it besides adding money to it. Check it like a few times a year, not every single day. The overall obsession over recruiting in this country has gotten out of hand. 90% of Texas fans are chilling after the sugar bowl win and excited for the next season while the rest are melting down in June over teenage kids.

  18. I just can't get too worked up about any of this. It feels like there are multiple times in each cycle where the recruiting game goes on tilt against us, and then it comes back the other way. Guys covering this stuff are too close to it and the recruits when momentum swings for a bit. One minute you're landing everybody and the next, no one knows your name. I do think I will laugh pretty fucking hard in a very petty, foreboding kind of way if Washington commits to OU. At this stage, going to play defense at OU over Texas is a fucking joke of a decision, especially for someone in Texas. And I know he's from California, you pedantic fucks, but he's here now.

  19. Pretty obvious Herman has decided his plan to win (the program itself) and the culture he's working to establish trumps everything else, to include individual recruitments. If he has to choose, he's more comfortable with keeping good coaches on staff he believes support the culture 100%. If that costs us a recruit here and there, so be it. I think most on this recruiting board want to see more of a UGA approach with recruiting wizards all over the staff and more reliance on talent acquisition as opposed to pure coaching. Ideally, we'd have both but very few outside of Bama (and now Clemson) are pulling that off. While TH is an Urban disciple, it would appear he's modeling the program more along the lines of Clemson. Program, culture, stability, stability, stability. It's a longer path. We'll see if TH can stay the course for the long haul and deliver on a similar trajectory.

  25. Ah, the old "You guys are just internet tough guys but I'm a REAL LIFE tough guy" routine. Classic. Classically laughable. What I've never understood is the occasional but inevitable guys that show up from other boards to shit talk this (or any other) board. If that's such a better fit, why don't you just stay the fuck over there? Do people think they're going to swim upstream and win over people who don't share their point of view like switching a television channel? That's not usually how communities work. And why would you want to spend your time with people who share zero points of view as yourself? I left 247 because they are literally the dumbest people I've seen online, it was basically 2k Katy Agnor clones. It was miserable to read and be around, so I left. The only answer to why anyone else wouldn't do the same thing is they're a fucking troll.

  32. Those detention centers weren't being utilized as concentration camps. Children weren't being denied medical care. They weren't sleeping on concrete floors with foil blankets in rooms intentionally made uncomfortably cold. People weren't being packed into rooms like sardines for multiple days. Obama wasn't threatening ICE raids to sweep through cities looking for undocumented people so he could also put them into these facilities. It's the deliberate creation of misery by the trump administration that makes what's happening now be concentration camps, and distinct from what's happened in the past. I recommend that you read Mojo Hand's post again.

  33. Everyone who watches reality tv and thinks it's real shares the blame. If you're watching The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, or (*cough*)Naked and Aftaid(*cough*)... and think it's real then you're part of the problem. Survivor, Fear Factor, and all those other bullshit shows that our brain dead society actually bought into like it wasn't totally obviously fake is a big part of how we got here. We actually have a reality tv show presidency. Millions of Americans believe Donald Trump is the successful businessman he portrayed in The Apprentice. Well, maybe if you didn't sink to watching shit shows like Survivor and Fear Factor (et al.), there wouldn't have been a market for other reality shows like The Apprentice. Maybe if you didn't care so much about keeping up with the Kardashians, we'd be better off as a country and a society.

  34. Sure, OO won’t get moved off his spot much, but that’s not what Orlando asks out of his NT. He wants a guy that can penetrate, which is why he moved Oliver to Nose at UH and why Poona was such a great NT. Orlando slants his DL all the time, so he wants quickness and explosiveness out of his DL, which is different than a traditional 3-4. Orlando doesn’t care if he slants his DL the wrong way and gives up a 6 yard run on 1st down, because eventually he’s going to slant the right way and get the offense into 2nd and 3rd and long, so he can pin his ears back and force TOs or get a stop. OO’s fine as a guy that won’t give ground, but he lacks explosiveness and flexibility. He doesn’t get low in his stance and he’s not very quick off the ball. His HS film is just him standing up high, overpowering smaller/weaker OL. there’s nothing special about that. You can find that anywhere. What makes a DL elite is someone who can hold his ground and get explosive plays in the backfield. It’s the difference between someone like Keondre Coburn and OO and there’s a huge gap between the two. Broughton will play at 300+ and be able to generate explosive plays, which is what makes him special. Saying OO is a better prospect or scheme fit for Orlando’s defense is just flat out wrong.

  35. So incredibly sad. They are apparently victims of Trump's illegal use of metering to prevent asylum seekers from presenting themselves at ports of entry, as the law permits those asylum seekers to do. The reports say this desperate family tried to present themselves at a port of entry — LEGALLY — but were not permitted to do so by our government, so they tried to cross at another point (a misdemeanor that would be excused if they are later granted asylum). For the "But Obama" Trump apologists, metering was implemented in 2016 to handle a massive temporary influx of asylum seekers, but the Trump administration has used the practice for the opposite purpose, intentionally slowing admissions to a trickle despite much smaller numbers of immigrants arriving at the borders: https://www.cato.org/blog/obama-tripled-migrant-processing-legal-ports-trump-halved-it. We have the capacity to allow these desperate LEGAL arrivals to present themselves at the border; we're just not letting them do it as a matter of cruel policy.

  39. I'm no coach, but he's the best college football player I've ever seen. By the end of his soph year there was no way to really defend him. I mean, there would be plays where the snap would be mishandled, the ball would bounce around, and Vince would pick it up and run for 12 yards. VY's dropped snaps were better plays than anything we ran from 2010-2015.

  40. CDC sees two top-3 classes in Tom's first two cycles and a 10-4 season. I doubt he's hovering over Tom's shoulder or tracking individual recruits on a day to day basis, keeping careful track of Vernon Broughton's tweets or which team Bijan Robinson is talking about behind the scenes at a Rivals camp. Now, if we have another good season and turn in a fringe top-10 class, maybe CDC starts asking questions.
