  3. I will be rooting for UCLA. But once we're in the SEC if they play this game again, then I would be rooting for UCLA.

  5. Surliest of assholes, today is the day we have been waiting for since December 30th of 2020. Lets start with the weather forecast today, then talk about what to expect from our first game of the year. As you can clearly see its going to be hot as fuck. Field temps around kickoff are expected to be over 100 degrees. What's this though, the major prediction is there is major gorilla boofing expected? What is gorilla boofing you may find yourself asking. Gorilla Boofing (ɡəˈrilə buu'fing) verb - getting violently butt fucked by a gorilla or in the style of a gorilla. Example: The Texas Longhorns are Gorilla Boofing the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns today. Well shit, if the weather channel thinks there is major gorilla boofing expected, who am I to argue with them? Lets get into the pre-game breakdown. Billy Napier is a really nice guy who is taking his time making sure the ragin Cajuns are a perrenial winner of the most powerful conference in football. The sunbelt conference. They are stacked with 2.5 star talent, have excellent discipline, and their names will mean literally nothing to you when you hear them. Returning a bunch of starters or something. Then we have the Texas Longhorns football team. There's a new coach in town, Steve Sarkisian. He's come into town and immediately let us know that his brain engine has a serious defect. It is only capable of All Gas with No Brakes. The Longhorns are playing their last season in the absolute joke of a conference the Big XII and return a roster that makes my special parts move. Filled with Household names like Bijan Robinson, Cade Brewer (A Burnt End) and Demarvion Overshown. Expect to see an aggressive and relentless attack led by the defense, followed up by the offense making quick strikes on explosive plays. Crack open a cold beer, pour yourself a nice wine spritzer or enjoy your beverage of choice starting now, because we are in for a glorious day of Texas Longhorns football. Hook 'Em P.S. For less than 2 cups of Starbucks coffee a month you can support the Burnt Ends. Find more information here. https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/burnt-ends-nil-program/

  6. Okafor wasn't the only one. Christian Jones doesn't look like a strength at left tackle, either, especially in pass blocking. To focus on the OL is being a little churlish. Watching Mack Brown's UNC team get absolutely destroyed on the line of scrimmage reminded me how many years (aka decades) we've had terrible offensive lines, with a few exceptions. So many positives outside of that. Playcalling met expectations. Especially with no interior consistent running game available. That slow developing outside run to the right in the first half wasn't my favorite. You know, Jeff Banks gets his dick sucked so much, it's been tough to buy in. But the kickoff receiving team was mentally ready for the onsides. The first punt return was electric outside of the penalties. The second return where he put Worthy on the field alongside Jamison to defend better against the rugby punt which led to an 18 yard return - it's all a sign of really good preparation, leadership and tactical awareness. I don't know what to think about it. It's like we have signs of a great coaching staff. I haven't seen a Texas defense be so consistent in stopping 3rd and short since...Muschamp? Louisiana was not a chump offense. It's only the first game, but really nice opener. Skill position players look like a strength for sure. Loved seeing Whittington show. He's so strong. I believe we've only scratched the surface of what he's capable of. Anyone heard anything about D'Shawn Jamison? They don't look dominant, but that's okay. They looked really solid in all areas. Well prepared. Well coached, with room to improve. I'd say every area of the team at least met expectations, with the overall performance exceeding them considerably. This game showed a lot to build on. Bring on Arkansas.

  8. Reading the last couple pages of this thread, I can't help but jump in here. I'm a molecular biologist. I'm happy to verify with the mods, just PM me so I don't dox myself. I have not read most of this thread, so I apologize if what I'm about to say is redundant. Unless you are significantly immunocompromised, frail, living in a long term care facility, or specifically told to by your health care professional, I would encourage everyone to hold off getting a third shot for several reasons. 1. Efficacy against severe disease/hospitalization/death is still holding up well. The Israeli data that a lot of the panic is based on is a statistical anomaly, discussed in detail here. The vast majority of breakthrough cases in healthy people are very mild. The severe cases are concentrated among those that are extremely frail and with a significant number of comorbidities. 2. We have no high power studies examining the safety of a third shot. I'm at a loss why this would be publicly announced before we had clear data that this is a safe choice. 3. We have no idea if giving subsequent shots will reduce the efficacy of the delivery system. We know this is happening with the adenovirus vector vaccines (J&J and Astrazeneca). The mRNA is encapsulated in a lipid shell. It is possible that the immune system will begin to recognize this as foreign, mount a response against it, and develop memory. This could result in every mRNA vaccine you receive going forward will become less and less effective. This could have really significant consequences, because not only will mRNA vaccines likely continue to be the first vaccines available in future pandemics/health crises, but these also have huge potential to be very effective tools against cancer. To me, it seems like a pretty poor tradeoff to get a third shot to prevent a cold in exchange for potentially limiting your options to respond to significant health issues down the road. There are several ongoing studies that are examining the efficacy and safety of mixing and matching vaccines. I'm middle aged and don't have any known health issues, so I've made up my mind to not get another mRNA shot or a J&J shot for COVID as long as something crazy doesn't happen like efficacy against severe disease plummeting. The studies I'm waiting for revolve around Novavax. This is a subunit vaccine (injects the spike protein directly) much like the flu shot, and it will mitigate the risks I outlined in point 3. As long as the safety/efficacy data of using Novavax after vaccination with an mRNA vaccine looks good I will be willing to roll up my sleeve again. And for those that haven't, I strongly suggest you read the article in my prior post. The immune system is a highly complex and dynamic thing. Antibodies alone do not tell the complete story of protection, so don't freak out if you don't have enough antibodies to pay off the Loch Ness monster. Just food for thought. I'm happy to answer questions.

  9. OK, starting this now because I will have limited opportunities to chime in tomorrow. Gotta be at a water polo tourney at 8:30, multiple games, then the boy and I need to rally to the Rose Bowl. this is Chip’s opportunity to win a signature game. UCLA has 20 returning starters, 10 on each side, but most importantly we have hogs up front, which is where offenses are made or lost. The reality is we go as far as our wildly inconsistent QB, DTR, takes us. He needs to be on the move, and make smart decisions against NFL caliber DB’s. But we absolutely can hang with these guys. And we can win. Whether we do or not may dictate the future of this program. Should be glorious at the Arroyo Seco tomorrow. Hot but a later start. I hope and trust we have the surl behind us. Please tell me you ain’t rooting for Cletus the slack jawed Cajun. Go Bruins!

  12. I posted this on the It’s happening thread as well but thought it was relevant here too. One thing that I thought was awesome on the tour last night was the sports science area. They have 4 sports scientists on staff and a testing area loaded with cameras and a green floor which allows them to mathematically examine athletes for imbalancing weight and muscular development, helping them therefore train out of the created injury likelihood. Also, the woman in that area that we were speaking with was recruited from NCSU. She said they had zero sports scientists there. She seemed to think the program was pretty far out in front of everyone else in college but for perhaps a few exceptions. Conversely, my understanding regarding ATM is that their definition of “sports science” is seeing how far they can stick their arms up a bull’s asshole.

  13. How many times do people have to tell y'all that he talks shit about Texas to anyone who will listen? And if you haven't somehow missed this fact which has been posted here dozens of times, why is it difficult to understand Texas fans rooting against him?

  15. of course you do. thing is, i would support that. if they choose that. and the real thing is, i'm actually pro life. both my sons were very premature, and had they been born in the 80s, they probably would not have made it. but this pro life type of path that republicans are going down makes no fucking sense at all, if the goal was really about reducing unwanted pregnancies. but that's not the point. the point is the cruelty. instead of funding proper sex education, providing free healthcare and free contraception, funding adoption agencies and fucking fixing our broken foster system, providing free childcare to poor folks, etc, it's all really mostly about slut shaming. and that's the point. and that's why i quoted your post, not to single you out necessarily, but republicans make it all about the woman. the man part of the equation is almost never mentioned. and that is part of the white dude privilege i've learned to approach over the past couple years and try to put myself in other people's perspectives the best i can do. obviously, i'll never know what it's like being a woman, but i'm understanding that all abortion blame seems to be pointing fingers at women. women should be on the pill, women should get a device imp0lanted in their vaginas, etc. what about helping the women, and not ignoring the biological imperative that fucking each other is the natural order of things from puberty on? you can only delay the inevitable for so long. ignoring that reality is stupid.

  31. No shit. Some putos acting like we just played UTEP. That's a one loss ranked team from a year ago that returned everyone and has an experienced club with good coaching. Those teams routinely knock off or seriously challenge p5 teams in early season games. Fuck this we don't beat Oklahoma bull shit. Both Herman and Strong managed to out duel Reilly when he had number 1 pick NFL QBs. Their defense got all preseason hype and got boffed by Tulane. With this coaching and three more games to round into form we're fighting them to the end in a toss up game.

  37. Why should women have to get copper wires implanted in their uterus? One woman can only have one pregnancy per year at most. One man can impregnate hundreds of women per year. Vasectomies can be given to males when they hit puberty and then reversed when they get married and are determined to be capable of being a father. Oh. Does that sound barbaric and draconian? Does the idea of a government too intertwined with religion making judgements on an individual citizen’s sex life give you pause?

  38. RGV/Weslaco Panther legend and the Lifetime Longhorn passed away late last night. Thoughts and prayers to his family and our Weslaco Community. For those that don't know about him, he was the starting QB for DKRs first conference championship in 1959. In addition to playing QB, he was also the team's starting DB, punter, kicker, and punt/kickoff returner. I believe he was the first longhorn to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Read a story in our newspaper a few years back detailing one particular RRS game against #2 OUsucks (1958 I think?) where he threw the tying touchdown pass, kicked the go ahead extra point, and then picked off the OUsucks QB to seal the game. Dude was a baller. (Edit: found a summary of the game that Barking Carnival did a few years ago: "Lackey was spectacular on both sides of the ball. Aside from throwing the winning touchdown, he recovered a fumbled punt, made an open field tackle on Bobby Boyd with a minute left in the game when it appeared the All American was touchdown bound, and then he sealed the win with an interception") Before that, he was a First Team all state football and basketball player for Weslaco High, leading the Panthers to the 1955 state semifinal (football). UT Hall of Honor, RGV and Texas High School Sports HOFer. Here's the announcement from Weslaco ISD. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=4254326824644628&id=719985588078787
