What a fucking shitshow. And this is just fucking embarassing. #1 player in the world and a 5 time major winner. Way to go, fellas. I mean, I never thought we were going to win but I didn't think it would be THIS bad. -

Been thinking along these lines myself. That wasn't bad. I laughed more at the ad at the end, though. Seeing us get a sack when only rushing 4 during the 3rd quarter... haven't seen us do that in a long time, and that's when I felt we were going to win. More like, "Thanks for all you've done for me," but whatever. The largely mistake-free football was huge. It's almost like Sark, Flood and Banks had played in that stadium before or something. 😉 -
Are we ever going to win a game again at MMP? Unreal

I don't understand some of you people (I'm calling all of you 'you people'). They lost the #1 draft pick, #3 draft pick, and the #12 draft pick. 10 our of their 22 starters were drafted last year. We got fuuuuucked on at least 3 calls that led to them winning the game. We don't have to deal with that much egregious fuckery this year. They are worse. We are better. We are going to win, convincingly. 38-14 325 yards.

I feel like this bodes well. Milroe should be good for 1.5 turnovers. Between that and our (supposedly) improved o-line play + definitely better receivers, I can't help myself in feeling like we are going to win by 10.

I know your are saying that in jest but fundamentally that is true, and has in fact happened in our past when we felt existentially threatened. During WW2, we actually spent 40% of GDP on the war effort, even once it was clear that we were going to win. (As to the amount we've given to Ukraine thus far, it represents .002 of our annual GDP). I remember reading a book on Peloponnesian War many years ago, and if memory serves, it was written by a history professor at the University of Texas. This isn't a direct quote because I am doing this from memory, but it went something along the lines of, "the organizing principal of all governments is make war, be it defensive or otherwise." Basically that everything else is butter on top, i.e. social programs, schools, etc. Anyway, that has always stuck with me (well that and the part where Themistocles tricked people into financing the Navy, which turned out to be huge). As it applies to this situation, for the Ukrainians, they should spend everything they can, anything that anyone will give them, innovate in any way possible, because if they do not, they may well not exist as a country. Choosing not to would sort of like needing life saving surgery but opting not to do it because you think you can't financially afford it.

This is the cloak room right? The Big 12 has already rigged the season against us bigly. By the way, the Big 12 is being controlled by the Biden Crime Syndicate and China. On a more positive note, we are going to win all our games including the National Championship and a statue of Sark lifting up Ewers holding the championship trophy will be commissioned for the outside of the stadium.

not much for the hand sign discussion but tennessee guy in this got me. hilarious. 100% accurate. gmr has nailed exactly why i think you people with floor expectations of ten wins for a team coached by a guy who has never lost fewer than four games and a team that lost one of the most talented football players ever are slightly delusional. bijan (outside of the o.t. against tech) was utterly extraordinary. if he had the 2005-2008 offensive lines (hell, even the 98-04 lines)...people would remember his name forever. you can't derive much info from a bowl game but anyone who watched us in that game against washington should have immediately thought "holy shit, bijan robinson was incredible." nothing brooks has done so far has bolstered any notion that he is even 70% of what bijan was. our pass blocking line last year was very respectable. their true blue run blocking was fucking horrible across the board. they should certainly be better this year but they have a long ass way to go and if we are going to win ten games, the line has got to make that jump. on defense, i remain skeptical about every single element of it until we can stop tech from converting 3rd and 30 and 4th and 25 and put in a little effort in the second half of games. until we can keep punk ass washington from going 13/23 on 3rd and 4th down, i will reserve going beyond hope. really hope anthony hill is a game changer.

How many wins will Texas have this season? (2023 edition)
Wilcox Cummingtonite replied to perfectchaos007's topic in Football
This conference would probably turn out the lights at jerry world in the 4th quarter if it looked like we were going to win the last CCG. -
I'm not trying to pick on you here, but that mentality is part of the problem. You clearly see a problem, you have a choice, get involved or whine about it. Again, that's not a slight directed at you personally, it's a mentality that has permeated left leaning voters for years. We aren't organized, we aren't local efforts are chaotic, etc. You know what, comparatively speaking to the Republicans that's all true, that's been the key to their successes. That having been said, if we do nothing we shouldn't expect a better outcome, if we start working on it, even on small levels we can build to success. Think of it this way, if you are going to play a football game and half your team believes they are going to lose before the game even starts, you probably will. It's worse than that though, in order to really win a football game the work starts months in advance. If you believe in April you aren't going to win in the fall, guess what, you don't put in the work, and then you never give yourself the chance. The bottom line is we have to get out the consistent loser mentality we've been conditioned to accept in the Democratic Party. This narrative has been pushed by the media, obviously the opposition, but worst of all internally by Democrats and left leaning voters themselves. The truth of the matter is we are picking up steam, and it's time to start believing we are going to win and more importantly put in the work to do so. This shit isn't magically going to happen, we have to do work.

To be fair, there were posters here saying almost the same thing. Lots of "if we aren't going to win the league, we might as well not win the best league" or something to that effect. I think to a sizeable portion of Texas and OU fans, the biggest value of this move is in seeing more "name" schools/blue bloods on the schedule.
-
Fuck TCU but I have personal issues with ORU so I cannot sleep until they are out of this fucking thing. I'd rather fucking OU have won last year than ORU win this year. I'm already pissed they were sent to Stillwater as a 4 seed. We weren't going to win it either way, but fuck ORU, forever.
-
I mean yeah. I would never have thought after OU we were finishing the conference season 7-2, and after going 7-2 I would never have thought we would go out with a wimper against Kansas and Kansas State. And after going 0-2 against Kansas and Kansas State I wouldn't think we were going to win a regional. So who the hell knows? I am certainly not putting any money on this up coming regional. I would probably bet money Texas isn't winning it all if I were a betting type.

I don't see how this is "shit talk". Damn we have some sensitive people on this board. Aggy likes to beat their chest based on recruiting rankings or playing close games. This is simply acknowledging that we have been competitive as recently as last year. And again, I have never said we are going to win the conference next year. I said we are going to COMPETE for it, just like we did last year. Here is CBS ranking us at #19 without adding anyone else. I welcome anyone who thinks KU is completely head and shoulders above us to compare rosters as I have. I'm certainly open to some rational discussion. My view is that a lot of the rating services are vastly over-valuing incoming freshmen and under-valuing experience and the portal. If the roster we have assembled ends up outside the top-25, we are going to surprise a lot of people.

We aren’t going to win this doubles point. Woof
-
I mean- I said we are going to win 102 games and tried to talk @Hank Chinaski off the ledge repeatedly. I call an idiot move an idiot move. Not addressing catcher was dogshit stupid. Giving Brantley 12M was absurd. Even worse though is the roster spot. I think Crane talks a lot of shit but is coasting off Luhnow greatness. I like Dana Brown though so I think we are ok. If all Crane does well is hire good GM’s we are fine and dandy. This off-season just kinda sucked. They made one good decision and that was Abreu. That was a really good decision. It’s probably enough to make us the favorite. I said we should have traded Yuli, Brantley and Maton before last year and got out of that 25M and gotten a real long term solution for Lf. We survived the playoffs with Lf/DH being dogshit (wherever Yordan didn’t play) so to repeat that same mistake was D U M dumb. Like I said- I bet the over hard (for me) at 97.5 so I’m not a doomsayer. I just recognize stupid when I see it and we had some of that the last 2 off seasons. but again- I said 0-10 to start the year wouldn’t phase me and I meant it. I do wish Dubon was a co-passenger on the rocket I want to put Maton on that I want to launch into the Face of the sun.

those of you who were around might remember that i went to rehab in the summer of 2009. I don't need to tell you where Texas Athletics was at that point in time- we'd had TJ and Cat on the cover of SI in 2003 and nothing had changed since then- Texas was still the preeminent athletics program in college sports. well there was this nigerian guy working there named Victor Ike- no relation- and every morning i would read the sports page and talk to Victor about whatever i read. he was one of two people in there who helped me heal by being in tune with the sports that i loved- the other was a female doctor who was a huge USMNT fan and who was keeping me up to date with everything going on with the confed cup- i've always regretted not being able to tell her how important she was to me. but i digress. before i left rehab i made a bet with Victor- that Texas would win a national title in football, basketball, or baseball within 'x' amount of years- i don't remember the exact time frame. i do remember him laughing in my face, just so amused at how sure i was. it was like he knew he was taking candy from a baby (haven't seen him since then ergo i haven't paid him, suck it Victor). he was so sure that Texas wouldn't win a title, and that really irked me. i was *so* sure that major national titles were an inevitability that i couldn't believe that anyone else would think differently. well, we're now approaching the summer of 2023, and Texas has won a grand total of *checks notes* zero major national titles since then ("major" meaning the big 3 sports). this is what chris beard took from us. you cannot possibly convince me that we weren't going to win a title under beard. he was going to be here 25-30 years. i'd bet dollars to donuts that he was more likely to win multiple national titles at Texas than he was to never win it all. that's what this motherfucker took from all of us. that's why this is such a big deal. ou, hey, Terry is our coach, the players and recruits are happy, the vibes are immaculate. great. awesome. still wish Beard hadn't done what he did. i love rodney terry. always have, always will. he's still not half the head coach that chris beard is. he can't build a program like beard can. he doesn't have the pedigree that beard does. he doesn't have the vision for a program, he doesn't have the ability to engage the students/fan base, he isn't a fucking master of one side of the floor, he's not a foundational HC for a program gbat wants to win titles. he's just not. yeah, we're all happy right now, and we're all hoping for the best, but the truth is that rodney terry has a 0.0% chance of being as successful at Texas as chris beard was going to be. that's simple fact. Beard took the golden years of Texas Hoops from us. he made us happy with (thrilled with?) hiring a coach who honestly would never even be considered for the A&M job, forget this job. he's forced us to delude ourselves into believing that everything will be alright, because that's more palatable than admitting to ourselves that the best coach we probably could ever hope to hire went and self imploded in less than two full seasons and in the process royally fucked all of us. well fuck that, and fuck chris beard. i can hope all i want that he's going to fall flat on his face at ole miss, but deep down we all know that SLX is probably right- he'll probably turn that program around over night and end up winning the 2027 national title at kentucky. and where will we be? wondering what to do with rodney terrry, if i had to guess. god damn it chris beard. you fucked me. you fucked all of us. and you barely even have to pay. to paraphrase the enigmatic Tiger Joe, i will never emotionally recover from this. fuck you you fucking fuck. i hope shaka smart knocks you out of the tourney next year.
