I'm not letting Lebby off for any of it. Read what I wrote. Even if he participated in it, doubling down after the fact shows he didn't learn from it.

We're agreeing.

I know, man. I’m not up your ass about it. I just have access to information on this particular issue that allows me to speak on it with a little more confidence. We’re in agreement. I appreciate your ability to be rational and reasonable most of the time. All good.

Escorts are people and need friends to man.

Dogs, cats and various beasts of burden are all also friends to man. What does any of that have to do with Jeff Lebby building a rape factory at OU, Baylor being an absolute shithole of evil, or the rising cost of tea in China, sir?

Baylor paid Art to take the fall but it was to cover their own ass.  I know a primary attorney involved in multiple suits against Baylor outside of football.   He wouldn't disclose confidential information/specifics but I'm confident it was orchestrated to place the focus on Art/football in the media to cover what was a big Baylor problem.  I mean really that much is known even publicly.  I probably know more about this than most from different angles and I come out that (i) Art should have been fired and (ii) Baylor, as an institution, is a really fucking evil place.  But this isn't the thread for that.  Back to OU Sucks..

I’m not as familiar with other lawsuits against the school, but I do know a fair amount about this one. Hit my DMs if you want.

Yeah, some of the non-football related allegations spilled out into the public, and then poof, nothing else was heard. Liberty-Baylor parallels are weirdly symmetric in this regard also.

But, yeah, doesn't excuse Lebby at all, and the whitewashing of his past has been curious. None of the national stories covering his hire have mentioned it.

Venables' coordinator hires have been weird for different reasons.

Gee. I wonder what these schools have in common that would create a culture of public perception > tangible experience.

Good get by Venables. Kid can fly.

Kanak and Jayden Rowe profile similarly: 6-2, 210, 10.5 100m.

Venables has said having a safety that can cover and play in the box makes calling defense easy. He's obviously not the only person who says this but he's had Roy Williams and Isaiah Simmons to show what he can do with this talent.

If he can get both these guys on the field, things could fun.

They all sound like shitty human beings.

to put it lightly.

Some people care about things like money and career more than they care about human dignity & other peoples lives in general & it's baffling that there's still a portion of the educated, reasonable population that doesn't understand that. "How could Lebby come out and defend Art?" Uh, well, if you're convinced that he turned a blind eye to what was happening or, worse, actively helped cover up what was happening then why is it shocking that he came out in defense of his father-in-law/boss? If he thought/knew his ass was grass if he did anything other than that both professionally & personally then it makes a lot of sense that the POS stuck up for the bigger POS.

By Kanak quietly signing the letter and coming into Norman in January, OU doesn't provide ESPN another "Clemson ESPN 300 recruit follows Venables to OU" column, embarrassing Dabo and Venables and putting more pressure on the kid. This is the smart way to do this.

It's true that it's better, but it also just crushes the soul of that one OU twitter blowhard who was shit-talking Riley about taking players with him and how OU does things the right way and would never do that.

Poor guy.

The old axiom is that Sooners are lying pieces of hypocritical shit. Always holds true.

He’s a 260 lbs interior lineman.  Supposedly, Venables pitched him after Riley left and told him he’d be a better fit as a DE but he saw himself on the inside.

We’ll see how it shakes out but that’s not a huge loss.

Nah, he’s a fucking baller

I heard the opposite story, that Venables pitched him as a 3-tech and A&M told him he could play the edge.  Who knows what's real, though.

Interesting.

- Rivals lists him at 6-3 / 260;  ESPN and 247 list him at 6-3 / 280

- As far as ratings,

- On3:  #3 recruit in the nation

- ESPN: #4 overall

- 247: #8 overall

- Rivals: #52 overall

Venables ended with a better class than Riley would have had and they still have more signees out there.

Riley would have signed Dindy, Raleek Brown, Derrick Moore, Azareyeh Thomas, Demetrius Hunter, Xavion Brice.
They would've had a chance (40-60%) at Marvin Jones Jr and Kam Dewberry and Devon Campbell.

Riley would've ended up with a higher rated class than Venables. Riley's 2022 OU class would've been # 9 - 11 nationally with a score of 271 getting who they'd have already committed and could've pushed to 296 (#3-5) getting all 3 of Jones, Dewberry, Campbell.

Venables class will end up ~ #15 class if they get the 5 guys they're suppose to. They'll have massive holes on the OL and WR group. OU would've needed to do portal shopping for WR/TE under Riley also.

The key will be how aggressively OU goes into the portal. Even with the five additional 2022 high school signees, OU'll only have 74 told players going into next year. They'll have only 14 OL and 13 WR/TE. Four of the WR/TE will be true freshmen so they'll be mostly useless.

@Aqua Buddha

Fud and kilroyos are right. Dindy is a baller who wants to play DE. OU sold him on an Isaiah Thomas-like role being outside on standard downs and moving inside on passing downs. Clemson told him he'd be inside mostly. A&M told him he'd be outside.

Substance over style

I find using quotes useful, but reading between them hard.

Was using bold make it easier to read. Open to suggestions.

Because Clemson didn't take many transfers, there was some question as to whether Venables would use the portal.

OU's gotten two portal players so far. They're getting them quietly (h/t @lilMAC25) generally.

https://247sports.com/player/daniel-parker-94085/

Because of low numbers at the OL and TE still, I wouldn't be surprised if they go to the portal for other players at these positions.

Latest on draft declarations/departures

Parker Thune

Obviously, most of you have seen the news that Gabe Brkic is off to the NFL, which wasn’t unexpected but also wasn’t a 100 percent certainty. Jeremiah Hall had made it clear long ago that he was done at Oklahoma after the 2021 season. Dashaun White will be an interesting name to watch, as there appears to be some momentum towards him leaving as of late. Money down, though, I’d say White stays. That’s largely based off his draft stock as it would stand today; he doesn’t have as much to gain from making the jump as some of his peers.

I’m also told to expect a forthcoming announcement from Delarrin Turner-Yell; while I do not definitively know the nature of that announcement, I expect he will declare for the draft as well. Stands to reason that Marquis Hayes is on his way out, too.

One player that we had known for a while was returning is long snapper Kasey Kelleher, who made it official today — he’ll be back for a sixth year. Also, I obviously am not about to drop names, but I do expect that Oklahoma will have at least a couple portal-bound players here soon. The attrition won’t be severe, however, unless Caleb Williams leaves. At that point, the ensuing chain reaction could get ugly, as we mentioned on the postgame podcast. That should be up shortly.

There should be more draft-related news before day’s end.

OL Marquis Hayes also declared.

Robinson and Hayes were presumed to be gone. I had taken all these players off my spreadsheet except Turner-Yell, who hadn't said anything.

Hayes and Robinson have been out of shape since 2019 and disappointing. Both had promise, but I doubt either will be drafted unless they lose 30 lb over the next 6 months.

OU's OL next yr will have three returning starters + the guard from Cal who's started for 2 yrs there: C Raym, T Harrison, G Murray, G Mettauer (Cal transfer). There are several highly recruited but untested options for the other tackle spot. Depth will also have to come from unproven players.

One sneaky thing OU's benefited from now going on 5-6 years is relative good health on the OL. Part of this is luck, but I don't know if that's something with training or teaching that Bedenbaugh does.

No it's not. They have had legit QBs, Smart is too risk adverse to play a modern offense.

I'm not sure. Monken was actually a very good hire and has run a modern offense at other schools.

Their reliance on the run game/defense, IMO, has been due to limitations at QB. I would be very intrigued to see Georgia and Monken with a player like Williams.

All of this is simultaneously true!
IF Georgia gets a top flight QB, AND IF they decide to let him cook, they could be LSU 2019-level good on offense with a better defense.

He's the problem for Williams transfer. Where does he go?
If you listen to what's been said about Williams' priorities, development for the NFL is first, then winning, then NIL.

First round NFL QBs since 2016:
Random school 10 (Cal,Memphis,UNC,TTech,Wyo,UCLA,Louisville,Duke,UtahSt,BYU)
N Dakota St 2 -- LOL
Oklahoma 2 -- coaching change
Clemson 2 -- coaching change; offense now sucks
Ohio St 2 -- has a QB
Alabama 2 -- has a QB
USC 1 -- coaching change; new coach ditched him already
Oregon 1 -- coaching change
LSU 1 -- coaching change
Georgia 0 -- Jake Fromm 5th round; JT Daniels can't beat out a walk on, and they have a 5-star from Williams class on campus.
ND 0 -- He's from a Catholic high school, no competition on campus, they'll get NIL together, he can win there; no history of NFL QB.
Wisconsin offers winning
Ole Miss offers NFL development

No obvious place for him to go is one reason for him to stay at OU or go to USC.
Gil bang needs to explain why he thinks USC's OL/DL are going to be good next year, so staying at OU may be an option.
The marks against OU are that the Briles offense hasn't produced NFL QBs and they don't have NIL set up.

Georgia will certainly get to make their pitch, but if a track record of NFL development is the litmus test, they don't have it.
