WNBA players do not deserve the pay that they think they deserve but they absolutely deserve a pay raise once the new media contract starts.  They want 50% of revenue like NBA players get but that is just not doable.  There is a minimum amount needed to run the league and that amount will eat up much more of WNBA revenue that it does NBA revenue just because of how big that revenue pool is.  Without having the financials in front of me which makes my opinion rather worthless I still feel like their pay should triple or 4x.  That is still only $4.5-6 million in salary but should be doable with the new media rights.

I've never seen a W player or union rep say they want 50%.   Just that they deserve more than 9.5% that they currently get.

During her recent appearance on the "All the Smoke" podcast with Matt Barnes, WNBA union first vice president Kelsey Plum explained that the union is not asking for the same salaries as NBA players. What is demanded is the same percentage of the pie as the men.

"A lot of times, the misinformation comes in where we're asking to be paid what the men are being paid. That's not true. We're asking just the same percentage of revenue or a similar percentage of revenue. And right now, that's not the case. And so that's what we're fighting for," explained Plum

Thanks.   That's not a good idea but at least I am hoping its a negotiating tactic not a hard requirement.   They're not getting that much.   Between 25 and 35% would be my guess.

https://sports.yahoo.com/article/washington-mystics-trade-brittney-sykes-194604210.html

The Seattle Storm have acquired 2025 WNBA All-Star guard Brittney Sykes in a trade with the Washington Mystics.

In exchange for Sykes, the Mystics receive veteran forward Alysha Clark, the Storm’s 2026 first-round pick, and third-year player Zia Cooke. Washington is waiving third-year forward Sika Koné to complete the transaction and waiving Cooke in a corresponding move.

Mystics giving up on the season and going all in with the young guns they have in Citron and Iriafin.    They had a really nice run and were the surprise of the league.   Meanwhile, the contenders are loading up!   MIN getting Dijonai the other day and now SEA getting another all-star to go with the 3 they already have in Diggins, Ogwumike, and Gabby Williams.   Add in Magbedor and the rookie Malonga and they are looking pretty stacked.

I feel badly for Alysha Clark who went back to SEA as a FA.   She won two titles there back in 2018 and 2020.   She's the oldest player in the league at 38.  I know she didnt want to be on a team that wasnt competing in what could be her last yr.

MIN and SEA actually play tonight too.

Moving to a big market that loves basketball is definitely a huge move and it isn't like you're going to lose a lot of fans.  Boston is an easy trip from Connecticut and a huge chunk of their fan base is probably already Boston-centric.

Can more like 5 people on the street even tell you where Uncasville is?  The Connecticut Sun literally exist because of Mohegan Sun and UConn/Geno. \

Also, as a fan of sports who hates the gambling bullshit, pulling a franchise out of/away from a casino is a good move.

The commute for fans is an easy one. People sometimes forget that the New England states are small and things are not that far apart. You can drive from New York to Boston in 3.5 hours or so.

I have gambled, but one thing that does bother me is the inability now to talk about sports without the money someone has on a game. I also find it to be a good idea to get this team away from a gambling-fueled area. Boston is a really cool city with a rich history and love for basketball. I may be a fan of the Purple and Gold, BUT I can respect a city that cares about the game. Putting them there will be a good move for league revenue. It just won't be a good one for owners who wanted an expansion team there instead so they could collect millions in league expansion fees. I'll cry one tear for them.
