This is normally my favorite week of the year.  I even have a different Texas shirt for each day, that I normally wear to the office.
This year I'm working from home, haven't bothered wearing any Texas gear, and just realized that this is the least excited I've been about a TX-OU game in over three decades.
eff you tom
For me it was the herp derp miracle year, sold my tix before the game..felt a little regret since we actually won.

Same. My first 2 ou games were 55-17 and 63-21. I was so fucking pissed at Mack and the program I had a “prove it then I’ll show up.” And of course we pounded them. Haven’t missed one since. I’m torn on going this year but god dammit, when we skull fuck these cocksuckers and I’m not there, I know I’ll regret it. I’m 50/50 on going but god damn. Missing the ou game just feels fucking wrong. And no I’m not as pumped as years past, but god dammit it’s fucking ou week. Everyday this week I’ve gotten a little more pumped. I’m ready to punch em in the fucking mouth and have rattler toss 4 int’s as we add pound em by 10. Kinda like the Georgia game. We dominate the whole game but win by 10 or whatever cause Tom turtles up. Then go 2-5 to finish the year

The won't be a humiliating late game loss like against TCU.

The game will be over at halftime. Rattler will humiliate our D. He sucks, but on Saturday, we will make him look like Steve Young from the 90s.

That ugly mother fucker is going to eat more turf than a 70’s porn star.

Bobby Burton...

Wednesday

Quote

“It’s one thing if the other team just flat out beat you,” Texas quarterback San Ehlinger told reporters Tuesday. “But it’s another if you beat yourself.”

Truer words have never been spoken.

Yet that’s exactly what happened on Saturday afternoon. Texas, beset by penalties and ill-timed turnovers, squandered an opportunity to beat TCU at home and remain undefeated in Big 12 play.

Now, every game the Horns play is a must win if they harbor any hope of a Big 12 championship.

**

I have been mostly silent the past couple of days on this message board.

I wrote Snap Judgements, doled out the grades for the offense and defense, and discussed some things on the message board after the game and early this week, but I’ve largely tried to keep an open mind while contemplating what I want to say next.

So here goes...

The single most infuriating thing about this Texas team - and really any Texas team under Tom Herman after his first year - has been a lack of game awareness combined with a sense of urgency.

For perhaps the second time in his tenure at Texas, I felt like Texas played with urgency an entire game against UTEP despite the scoreboard (USC in Austin being the other).

Yes, the Horns have gotten up for bowl games, Herman’s teams have done that. And if you can’t get up for the Texas-OU game, then you don’t have a pulse as a Longhorn.

But other than that, we’ve seen a parade of average, ho-hum performances.

And that’s what we seem to have again this season.

The last two games, the Horns have reverted to their old selves. They have gone into a shell far too often.

They play well for a couple of drives, then the offense sputters and the defense gives up points, and lo and behold the game gets tighter.

Whether it’s reaching a ball out unprotected at the one-yard line with less than three minutes to go in the game, having no answer for needing a first down when you are up by three and have the ball late in the fourth quarter, making an easy catch for a first down to keep a drive alive, mishandling punts against Tech this year or Oklahoma State last season, properly defending two repetitive run plays throughout the game like the jet sweep or quarterback power play against TCU, the multitude of penalties - even two in overtime against Texas Tech, the list goes on and on. There just seems to be very little awareness of how to play winning football as a team. Compare that with what we see at Kansas State or Iowa State right now.

Unfortunately, this is not a new problem for the Horns.

When Herman first got to Texas, I expected the average performances, and they were actually encouraging to me after what we witnessed from Charlie Strong’s teams. Talent was down relatively speaking when Herman showed up, the quarterbacks were young, yet the Horns were in almost every game.

But now the cupboard is far from bare. In fact, the tools at Herman’s disposal are the best they have been.

Yet we’re getting the same barely-get-by Big 12 average-ness.

So, who or what is the problem?

I don’t have the answer to that. I only know what I’m seeing, which has been a group that has been close to turning a corner several times only to turn around and head back to Averageville.

Herman and the Horns must figure things out because being “average” is not going to be acceptable.

It starts with OU this weekend, but it doesn’t end there. Nor should it.

Texas fans don’t want average any longer.

Lulz.  We've only had it for 11 years now and are so numb to it we wouldn't know a prepared and buttoned-up team if we saw it.

Except if we happen to watch Alabama or Clemson on television.

Hold up. You’re the dumbass who went on the Football covid thread and claimed we were all horrible for wanting to watch football because we wanted people to die for our own entertainment  and now two months later you’re not only watching the games but talking about attending in person? Man, that’s some of the most impressive hypocrisy I’ve ever seen.

Oh fuck off. That was back in July or some shit when my Jack Torrence levels were pretty high. I didn’t much care leading up to the Utep game but then just as we kicked off, I was home again. Still feels weird watching football with this pandemic shit, but I’ve never been more happy to be wrong

Time is moving so slowly but so quickly with this Groundhog Day shit. Apparently UT is taking care of their shit testing wise. Hopefully everyone else does so we can fit in the games and get rid of Herman. Oh and it’s early October and we’re probably definitely getting a second wave this fall and winter. Shit how many games have already been postponed? But yeah fuck it. The ou game is happening and I’m leaning towards going cause it’s the fucking ou game. Best week of the year

it’s just all so bleh.

No fair or atmosphere is a big part of it imo.. just shows why going to Jerryworld would really dampen the game even it was #1 vs. #2.

Drink enough wax cup beers pre-game to go along with your Fletchers and you'll make your own atmosphere

Hope Texas buries Ratfucker on the 50.  OU needs to go totally in the shitter and reset everything.  Texas by 50 would help.  Wasn’t that excited going into the year but now I’m just pissed.  Hell a big Texas win means TH may get a longer leash too.  Make it so...

If you can't get up for this game you don't hate OU enough. We have a chance on Saturday to ruin their fucking program. It don't make a shit what's going on at Texas. Look at what's going on at OU. Now imagine them 1-3 in QB purgatory. They haven't had to deal with losing in a looooong time. Feathers will be ruffled.

our LB's are going to look like they are wearing roller skates as they get lost in misdirection, alignment, and play slow and flat footed. they are going to spread the field out and run all over us. Won't put the game in rattlers hands. Keep Sam off the field. I  pray our DLine plays out of their minds and doesn't let those huge lanes open up.

Jake Smith is going to go over 100 yards. Moore will break a 50+ play. Rojo will run through a motherfuckers face.

chaos as usual.

You lost me there. We'll never beat you guys that badly. OU is always ready to give Texas their best. Even in our all world team year, we only beat ya'll by 33.

The best I can ever hope for is 2013 style 36-20 win, when our defense miraculously plays lights out.

This is most likely the softest team OU has had in my lifetime ('79).  There were less talented teams and those that were coached worse but for charmin softness?  My money is on this group.

You would know better about your team, but Turtle Tom is even softer than Orange Slice Mack as far as keeping the pedal on the gas with a lead. Remember 2018 RRS?

This game is different, though. We've had some soft, untalented teams come into this game and punch you in the mouth and drag you in the mud. Meanwhile, you've played some pretty great Texas teams in this game and just run up the score on em.

But I get what you're saying- it seems like Texas has the historical edge when one or both of us is shitty, and OU does when we're both good.

That still pisses me off. I remember at the end of the 3rd being up 45-24 thinking we were gonna walk out there with a 59-24 type win. Then Tom did was he does and yeah. Though the field goal was epic as shit

Bahaha you said all this shit 3 weeks before the season. Nothing changed re Covid in that timespan. You believed Covid would kill a bunch of football players and still watched/attended anyways. You’re the one who needs to fuck off.
