Any bets?

I'm guessing 5 years concurrent.

I'm guessing five consecutive.  However, Mueller wanted to bring this and the ED Va cases together, which would have increased the odds of concurrent, but Manafort objected.  I don't know how that plays into this (probably not at all, formally).

Seems the judge doesn't care for fancy ostrich-skin jackets...

A pretty good legal defense would be "hey, if it wasn't for law enforcement and nosy people being aware of my crimes, nobody would even know that I loved doing crime."

Just incredible his lawyers took the route of "c'mon, no one even usually notices these crimes" as an argument for leniency, and Jackson was not impressed.

Continued-

The judge slams Manafort and his lawyers for making the "unsubstantiated" claim that Manafort was only charged by Mueller's office because they couldn't charge him with anything related to the campaign. "The noncollusion mantra is simply a non sequitor"

That's a pre-requisite for a job with TrumpCo

The 'no collusion' mantra is simply a non sequitur." It's also not accurate, since the investigation is ongoing, she says.

uh oh.  She knows what's coming.

Why not? They going to argue the facts? Nope.

So with credit for time served I think after today Manafort will serve 6.5 years in prison.

60 months (with 30 running concurrently) plus 13 months on top for witness tampering

Whenever I shit through the sunroof of one of my friend's cars or bang their wives I like to show up a few days later in a wheelchair like "hey, I know I crossed the line but I bet you feel pretty bad being so mad at me while my back hurts."

So 7 1/2 years all in, right?

I think you have to subtract his time served to date

No lawyers on the Surl, they're too busy.

Lulz. I’m offended. But you probably mean an actual *criminal* lawyer. @scottsins?

Jackson seems to be pretty harsh here. Makes it sound like a not lenient sentence.

every time there is something good for Manafort, Jackson says "yeah, but..."

And then goes pretty easy on him. The "Woe is me" strategy paid off.

I am not a lawyer, per se, but I have watched A Few Good Men many, many times. What would you like to know?

come on guys, it's not like he got caught with a dime bag or something...

He will receive credit for time served and 54 days/year "good time" for good behavior.

35 years (or whatever was adding the maximum for every count) was never realistically on the table.

7.5 years?  Out of a total possible 35?

Hopefully Mueller is offended by the absurdity of this and decides to drag him back into court for other crimes.  Or, even better, refers something to a state AG so that Manafort can spend some time in non-country club prison.

The truth and whether or not you personally think I can handle it.

Can we ship him back to Ukraine now?

Their justice system will love Paul Manafort.

It's what white guys get for white collar crimes.  I think I would have said 10 was about right, but that's influenced by the fact that I think most sentences are overboard.

Nice ... you think that the Feds would let him serve some time in Rikers before they shut it down?

That's too bad, that guy can't catch a break.

He's otherwise blameless.

Looks like the good guys have decided Manafort needs to die in prison.

I’ve always suspected whatever Manafort gets charged with are likely charges Trump could get hit with except on a much bigger scale.

Cyrus Vance's photo is in some dictionaries under that definition, yes.

Can one of the surly lawyers address the double jeopardy questions with these new charges?
