Not sorry that I missed Snek.

I almost missed @Jerry Callo as I was looking for Jerry Gallo, but fortunately everything worked out.

My son and I had a great time despite not catching much of note, but it was great to get out and to meet some really cool folks in the San Gabriel club.  Joined up and hoping to make some more trips.

This was as good as it got for me today, and evidently I'm dead and/or turning into Grimace by the color of my hands.

Nice spot here which got chest deep quickly, until I slipped and made it neck deep.  At least the leeches here are tiny.

Spent a week Permit fishing in Mexico at the beginning of August. Permit fishing was tough, but I caught 7 Tarpon between 35 and 100 pounds. The big one whipped my ass. Fought for an hour and forty five minutes on a 10 wt. Dumped most of my backing twice, leadered the fish 4 times, but never got a hand on it. Finally broke it off after it abraided the 80 lb shock tippet as I was trying to turn its head near the boat for the 5th time. Broke it off almost a mile from where I hooked it in about 40 ft of water. I did manage one small Permit.

Ascension Bay Lodge in Punta Allen Mexico. Just jumped out for the pic. A lot easier to deal with those fish in shallow water. They can't dive under the boat, and the guide can walk with them and cut them off so they don't get far away once you get them close the first time.

Ascension Bay is gorgeous. Only day fished it and it was windy AF and cloudy.  Only caught one bone but its a great fishery.

i was waist deep in brushy creek once and the next day had what looked like mini chicken pox or measles all over the parts of my body that were submerged and they itched like chigger bites for over a week. that's the last time I was super aggressive wading (above my shins) warm water creeks.

Let me guess. One part was itchier than the rest. 😉

did you know scratching your crotch is marginally acceptable if you are a guy but if you are a lady it's considered crass and ridiculously unacceptable? fucking double standard.

@troph I used to wade in Keens and get lots of that on the shins and ankles from the wee leeches.

Although I felt goofy about it at first, I switched to my wading boots and gravel guards and it's no longer a big issue around here.  As I understand, they mostly live in the muck at the bottom, and those provide enough coverage to reduce my chances of a good bloodletting.

Traction is also way better, although I still eat it on that slick limestone more often than I'd like.

I wear my boots and guards wading here or anywhere except sometimes in cold water I’ll wear hiking shoes.  Waist deep is just dumb in a warm water creek. And well, I’ve been known to do some really dumb shit.

Spent a couple hours fishing this morning on the San Gabriel.  A bunch of changes since the flood.   Ended up catching several sunfish and largemouth bass.
The Rio Grande Ciclids are my favorite, though.

So what happens when you do a day trip on Thursday and catch 17 sailfish and 1 blue marlin, then go back out on Friday to the same place 30 miles from the marina and catch 7 blue marlin and 4 sailfish? And your entire crew wants to fish tomorrow. You decide not to fish tomorrow so you can watch us beat the fuck out of Ohio St. But we will go again on Sunday.

Two Funny fishing stories that relate - about 20 years ago we were rented a place on the bay for week on Padre Island.  Well I wade fished and kayaked fished for three days looking forward to our guide trip on Tuesday.  Well... by Monday night my crotch was basically just this side of bleeding.  I knew there was a decent chance we were going to hop out of the boat and wade again, and that quite frankly was sort of terrifying.  I had really screwed up, as my walking gait was that of an extremely bow legged man.

So I decided to "risk it all!"  This is where being married has it's advantages, because I have some good friends, but not to call for this.  I decided to lay back, cover up the boys with my hands  and let the wife spray NuSkin on the raw skin.  Well if you have ever used NuSkin the stuff works, but it also burns like holy hell. And the last place you want it is on your privates.  Indeed the pain of the spray was brutal.  But several coats later that edge of blood raw skin had at least some protection.  The idea worked so well that honestly if I knew for sure I was going to be wading a few days in a row, I might do this preemptively.  After that episode I have envisioned a Restaurant with a logo of a very bow legged fisherman, called "Wader's Walk."

-----------

The second story is about a day long debate about the pros and cons of marriage of a group groomsmen, flat fishing the day of the rehearsal dinner.  Well the pros and cons went as you can imagine. Pros of companionship, newlywed sex, and intimacy were the primary pros.  Banging strange, complete freedom, and no commitment were the other side of that same coin.  It was is often the case fishing all day, a subject revisited again and again over the course of the day. I can still remember Ted the boat owner saying, "I'v got it!"  I was standing on the tower over the engine when he proved that there was a singular advantage to marriage (as in the first story).  Ted then proclaimed, "I remember a couple years ago, we went dove hunting in Mexico, and I got a damn tick right between my balls and my asshole..."  Pausing for effect.   Then he said, "Well, I got some good friends... trailing off.  The vision of me calling a buddy to come over and remove the tick with some hot tweezers shot through my mind and I laughed so hard that I damn near fell off the tower.

Anyhow tight lines kids, and let's fuck up those Buckeyes today!
