Can't stand RMs.  They look like cheap pieces of plastic.  And if you are gonna flex with a watch, you should at least go with precious metal or something that is going to be recognizable on the street.

RMs always seem to be for the flashy 'works for (maybe) millions' nouveau riche, with some exceptions, but they're fucking remarkable for how lightweight and shock-resistant they are. The favorite watch of the uber wealthy appears to be APs, though. I know of someone who wears APs and has about two dozen of them of all colors...to match her outfits or accessories. AP even made a custom shade of pink watchface and strap for her to specifically match a Birkin she got, and sent one of their reps to personally deliver it to her. It's fucking insane.

Picked this up to celebrate the arrival of my newborn 🙂 The Citizen Chronomaster AQ1000-58A. It's a feature-rich high-accuracy quartz watch that is Citizen's answer to the Grand Seiko SBGX line. Inside is Citizen's Calibre A010 Eco-Drive movement, accurate to ±5 sec./year (Grand Seiko's 9F movement is rated at ±10 sec./year). Up until a few years ago this was the most intrinsically accurate wristwatch on Earth, not counting radio/GPS/Bluetooth sync-ing watches that display time from an external source. Citizen recently released a newer 0100 calibre with ±1 sec./year accuracy that is significantly outside of my current budget 😅

It also has a perpetual calendar and independently-adjustable hour hand for time zone changes and DST. And it's a looker; Citizen uses the same sallaz polishing on the case, bezel, hands and indices as Grand Seiko does (and Casio for its MR-G line). This watch is stainless steel with Citizen's own scratch-resistant hardening coating on the case and bezel; some of the newer models in this line use Super Titanium instead. The Chronomaster line is JDM-only, but I got lucky with a Yahoo! Japan auction and managed to snag this at a great price.

Update: Exactly 1 year from purchase and initial synchronization, the watch is +1.9 seconds ahead of NIST time. Pretty damn fantastic. Will be interesting to see how the accuracy and thermocompensation hold up as the movement ages. I didn't take measurements very often throughout the year, but from what I could tell the rate of deviation definitely slowed down during the cooler winter months.

Citizen's A010 and A060 calibres (rated at ±5 sec./year) perform TC correction roughly once every 24 hours, compared to ETA's PreciDrive movement which does it every 16 minutes. Presumably the Citizen movements have larger correction intervals to save energy, since they are solar-powered. I haven't checked the accuracy in different positions; Citizen's newest 0100 calibre (rated at ±1 sec./year) uses an 8.4 MHz AT-cut crystal with negligible positional variance, but the older A010 calibre uses a 32 KHz XY-cut crystal that can vary by up to 2 seconds a year in different positions. Outside of Hoptroff's CSAC watches which each contain a miniaturized atomic clock inside, you won't find watches more intrinsically accurate than these.

Haven't bought a new dress watch since buying my current TAG 7 years ago, but I've had my eyes on a Pepsi Tudor for a while and planning to finally pull the trigger later this year.

I'd obviously rather have a Pepsi Rolex, but I've yet to achieve Surly 1% status.

Did you end up pulling the trigger? I've had my eye on the Black Bay 58 925 for a little while now. Silver watches are rare these days, and Tudor claims that the alloy they use doesn't tarnish. And the grey-taupe colour scheme is damn nice. One thing that gives me pause is the exhibition caseback, which gives it a little extra thickness and feels odd for a Tudor to have.
