He needs to address the entire offense this offseason. It’s simply not very good in its current form.

We are poor at run blocking schemes. Our WRs are mostly poor at blocking. Ewers can put up a great stat line like today yet the offense goes MIA for 40 straight minutes.

The play calling is suspect at best, even though it’s not known if some of the inane decisions are design or Ewers panicking. But throwing 3 times when we can run click and snapping with 28 secs on the play clock is an indictment in failure. But he wastes entire series with brain dead calls to theoretically “set up” future plays.

Maybe part of the issue is Ewers can’t move and has zero pocket presence, which a motion offense relies on to be consistent. We’ll know with Manning if that’s the case, unless Manning is a turnover prone gunslinger ala Aaron fucking Rodgers.

But shit needs fixed.

You can say what you want, but to keep throwing the deep passes was dumb.

I might counter that with we want to remain multi-dimensional.

And we had a nice deep pass vs. Clemson and another one early in the game tonight.

Kinda like faking that you'll always go with X RB on 4th and 1 but then you suddenly go with X receiver instead.

Do I think we have some major issues still? Yes.
Do I think Ohio State will be an issue? Yes.
Are we in the national semifinals? Yes.

That says something. I questioned a lot of shit today and all year, but dammit, here we are. Maybe because our talent is top notch. Or maybe it’s because we are a good team. I don’t know, but I’m glad we are still dancing.

Can’t wait for the Cotton Bowl!

Tom Herman as a better gameday coach.... 🤣 how is your liver holding up

Tom Herman did this exact shit. Every game was a one score game. Maybe he and Sark are equal gameday coaches, I don't know. But Sark is better doing the other stuff.

Sark has room to grow. Not sure how much a guy his age can, but you can see where he needs to improve. It's not the play design, it's the calls and not seeing the forest for the trees.... We can wish and hope that he gives play calling up, but some coaches just can't. A visit to the Chiefs or Rams in the offseason would be helpful, to understand how some guys who are known precisely for their play calling are able to designate that task and the team doesn't lose the signature one bit of that coach/offensive guru

Yes he can design plays with the best of them.   But he lacks rhythm, situational awareness and maybe all this movement is too complex for these kids

Unfortunately, I think he’s just too stubborn and set in his ways to grow much more unless there is help from Saban or CDC. He is who he is.

The 3 straight pass plays under 2 Min were my main gripe today. Oh, and the insistence with the outside zone when it wasn’t working at all.

pretty small complaints given the win.

You guys are crazy if you don’t think just about every other team would love to have Sark as their HC/playcaller.

I hate that this game was even close, but the team made multiple losing plays today and we still did enough to win. That’s on Sark as much as it is on the players.

He managed Quinn well enough to get the job done despite not having a rushing attack today. We only ran 60 plays to their 98. Leavitt was a magician back there and Skattebo went bananas. The refs decided holding didn’t exist and their OL became super effective because of it.

We won, despite most indicators leaning to a loss. This game was a hell of a job by Sark.

Well, it's weird because he's only calling to just barely beat anyone.

And we've been lucky that the opponents haven't gotten lucky.

So, what's he holding back the good stuff for?!

is there something about the Texas "kids" that makes them dumber than the Alabama "kids" that executed his offense quite well?

Top 3?  So besides Sark and "the Elk", who's the third?

and by the way, after watching that shit for 4 hours, there's nothing wrong with being drunk.

Sark is clearly a top 5 coach.  We've made it to the final 4 two years in a row. Who the fuck else would you even think about trading him for?

He's elite at program building and play design.  He's mid at play calling and game management.  And at starting the right QB.  It is what it is.

But, oh well, it could be far, far worse.  See 2010 - 2020.

Who are you putting above him?

no, he's not a clear Top 3. He is with a pack of other guys that clearly haven't separated themselves. For one you can't put him above Dabo, who has 2 NCs to his name. His issues are his stubbornness in a different way than Sark.

We literally just skullfucked Clemson.  I'll take Sark in this world, one in which Dark Age Dabo can't be bothered to work NIL and the portal.

well, if you just going off head to heads, then you must surely have DeBoer ahead of Sark. and Dan Lanning for that matter.

I won't stay on this argument, but the man has his faults. Discussing them is not an insult to him. Clear Top 3 is proven Championship winner territory. Especially at a place like Texas. He can get there. We are all hoping he does.

You would take Clemson’s program over ours right now? Of course you wouldn’t.

If that's the only argument, that puts Sark in . . . top 3.

no I wouldn't, doesn't mean that Sark is a better coach than Swinney. Swinney has 2 NCs against what everyone will agree was the best coach of all time, in the era, when people would say Bama was able to just stack talent more than most.  He finds himself in an era that doesn't suit his personal sensibilities well, but as far as coaching a football team, how do you downplay his accomplishments? relate this to basketball, it would be like discrediting Jay Wright as a pure coach as well, because he too can't/won't navigate the NIL landscape.

I don't know if you've noticed, but Saban, Harbaugh, Orgeron, and Meyer aren't coaching any more.  So Kirby, Dabo and . . . you sure Sark isn't in that argument?

This subjective debate feels like it has a clear "right answer". You guys just need to keep talking past each other for a few a more pages and I am sure someone will admit that they are wrong.

Regardless of where you want to rank him, his is still very much an unfinished product. He needs to demonstrate the capacity to self scout and be vocally self critical to keep evolving and ultimately improving as a head coach. He still has plenty of flaws and I really hope he recognizes those and adjusts accordingly. Continuous improvement even during periods of prosperity is a clear hallmark of the elite in most industries.

Unfortunately, the purview of the modern college football coach includes that exact thing.

Let’s see what he does next year when he has a qb that can do everything he wants.    I’m betting the results are very different. If Arch doesn’t have 4K yards passing and a rb with a thousand yards rushing I’d be surprised.

no debating that. but that fades once you get your players on the field and have to execute; and in that aspect, there are some head-scratching moments.

The passing game downfield will be so much better, but that fact is a bad thing to say around here….   I’d bet anyone anything we have more passing yards next year.

Bert clearly was ass last year and he's even worse this year.  Sark has done fuck all to deal with that.

Last year Burt had an 83% FG% and broke the all-time Texas record for most FGs made.  He was 75% from 40-49yds and 50% from 50yds+.

This year Burt has a 64% FG% and is 43% from 40yds+.

He is not the same player he was last year.

Off the field, Sark is arguably the best HC in football. Staff hires, recruiting, portal, NIL, culture...firing on all cylinders.

On game day, there are notable improvements that need to be made. Mainly his inability to understand the power of momentum and managing the game properly. From the couch, it looks like he takes on too much responsibility and it's creating some blind spots.

Sark rightfully loves the saying "Adapt or die.". I absolutely agree with the overall sentiment. Hopefully he's willing to look closer at his game day issues and adapts.

Sark for better or worse is a tactician and believes in continuity. Look at his lack of utilizing Manning. It’s only about loyalty and internal support for “the guy”. We’re definitely in a great position with him for the long term and see continued national success, This is no Mack Brown.

Sark doesn’t have the situational awareness a HC needs to properly manage the clock and make the correct play calls. This is definitely holding Quinn and the offense back.

Sark needs a flight simulator in the form of playing Madden. It doesn’t even have to be the fancy console Madden, it can just be Madden mobile which is basic as fuck. Sark brain farts in the circumstances where we can all see it coming.

Sark says "resiliency" instead of "resilience."

At best, "resiliency" is not incorrect.

Either way, I wish he'd stop putting the team into positions where they need so much of it.

How do we feel about how he addressed the red zone issues from last season? Hoping he can sit down this offseason and figure out third quarters

It looked like we had turned the corner in the red zone at about he half way mark of this season. But as of late? I wouldn't say that red zone execution is a strength by any stretch of the imagination. Just go look at how inept we were against UGA in the SEC title game if you want examples.

It feels really good to be one of 4 teams that will have an opportunity to play for a National Championship, two years in a row. I would love to see solid back-to-back, dominant games like I just saw with Ohio State, but it is what it is at this point. As the NIL era moves forward, looking at what OSU did, perhaps Sark in the off-season, takes some time to think about handing off OC to someone else. But like others... I'm not sure his personality or ego is willing to do something like that.
