Well I'd argue the midichlorians was a dumb revision of the Force by George in general but that's for a different nerd thread.

Obviously it didn’t land with most Star Wars fans but it never mattered because midichlorians were never meant to be the force but rather explain how someone can use the force. I get where George was coming from but he was ultimately reaching for something that didn’t need to be explained any further.

It feels like Andor Season 2 will get him the Emmy he should have won for Narcos: Mexico.

Yes! The end of ep 8, close up as the Ghormans plead for help over the radio.

What we see there is exactly what the force healer was talking about.

I started bawling. Just absolute Niagara falls.

He would be perfect for a knights of the old republic tv series or movie.

Nah. 4,5 and 6 are good.  Now 1,2 and 3 in his hands could have been a masterpiece. 7,8 and 9 should have never been made.

No. Him doing this makes me appreciate it so much more than if this was all of SW

Yes and yes. I don't think he'll do anything more with Star Wars. The lightsabers and Force characters just aren't something he seems interested in. He also sees some of the characters as a burden on his storytelling like Vader and even K2SO because of how limited that can make his story. He changed this show from being more K2SO centric. He's interested more in the human aspects of Star Wars.

I'll echo something I saw online, he does a great job of making the Stormtroopers actually terrifying and not the cartoonish cannon fodder they're normally written as. The screams when the Stormtroopers started walking down the steps to box the crowd into the kill zone was horrifying. Gilroy has really pushed the Empire back to how they acted in the original Star Wars.

Bix’s message made sense but have to assume Luthen (and Vel) got to her to make sure Andor stayed in the fold. I’m very curious what Bix’s part to play will be in the final three eps.

She gone.

I think it's also the last we see of Dedra, but hope I'm wrong.

Spoiler

Not to kink shame, but I wonder if she came when Syril was choking her.

A few other thoughts. I hope we get more Partagaz. His comment to Dedra, something something "professional ascendency..." was perfect, I love his character.

My patience is wearing thin with Wilmon. I admire that he's smooth, getting it on w/ the girls on MIa Rau and Ghorman, but his story sucks.

I hope we get to see Perrin one more time. Him looking at Mon raving at the end of ep 3 left it unresolved. A redditor fan fiction was for Perrin to die helping Mon escape from Coruscant. That would have tied his character off nicely.

The moment between Mon and Erskin at the end was really well done. You could see that he was completely devoted to her.

The Ghorm hotel guy telling recognizing Cass, covering for him and then telling him "Rebellions are built on hope"
200.gif

I didn’t realize it until second watch, the hotel kid is now part of the Ghorman Front. When they are all bickering underground about when and where to attack, he standing at the table with them…

I completely missed him being front and center.

His interaction with Cassian was amazing. Screencrush in his breakdown down played all three uses of “rebellions are built on hope!” Back to back to back. Perfectly poignant uses here and twice in R1.

I loved watching her react when he kept telling her to be calm.  Hands behind back, lips pursed, cheeks sucked in

Yep, "It's been an honor" and he was practically in tears when he said it.  He's a good guy.

No.

Star Wars is deliberately pulp, lowbrow SF, as much as Star Trek is highbrow "ivory tower" SF.

What Gilroy is doing here is showing that Star Wars can also be a vehicle for a more intellectual form of storytelling, just as Nick Meyer proved in The Wrath of Khan that Trek can be top-tier pulp adventure.

But pulling it off is difficult. Fuck up, and you get the fan reaction to The Last Jedi (or, in the Trek universe, Beyond). And it's a lot easier to fuck it up than do it right.

What was the significance of the blaster that Vel asked about? If it was the gun Andor gave Melshi from the prison break, how would Vel have known about it? Unless Andor got it from the heist, and had it stored on the beach planet I guess?

Theres no way this adult, gritty version of SW would have been the success the OT was. Yeah we love Andor, as adults; kids wouldn’t find the political intrigue that interesting.

It is perfect for 2 seasons and a movie.

Gilroy's lasting impact on Star Wars could be making Lucasfilm have a higher standard of screenwriting and dialogue going forward. Doubtful but it's definitely set a standard.

Pretty sure Cassian took that gun off Ritchie (can’t remember the Andor characters name) when he killed him after the Aldhani heist

Or maybe it was Nemicks

Definitely from a teammate in the heist

Didn't he stash it on Niamos (Miami Star Wars) with his Imperial credits in the room he was staying at and then gave it to Melshi when they went their separate ways after One Way Out?

Yep, just was trying to remember where he got it from.  It was Pre-Mor blaster he took when they escaped Syril coming after him in episode 3 of season. Maybe even Syril's since Cassian ambushed him and gagged him.  I am now remembering that Ritchie searched all his stuff and they have a convo about it.

I think you're right. FYI his name was Skeen

Someone jokingly said Syril taking a mini nap in the middle of dinner with his mother and Dedra was foreshadowing his eventual death. And to think, Soller, the actor who plays Syril, completely improvised the mini nap on set.

Honestly, whether you're going highbrow or lowbrow, good writing and editing is crucial either way.

Allegedly the Gilroy side doesn’t really communicate with the Filoni/Favreau side. Gilroy has never brought them up in several long interviews on The Ringer. There’s even some “not my Star Wars” bullshit out there in the Filoni-Verse.

Could be idle industry gossip, I mean who knows with Lucasfilm after the Kennedy retirement/not retirement mystery, but it’s plausible. Jon has said there’s no Andor without Mando’s success, and Dave gave it a half assed, back handed compliment. Reading between the lines, Dave thinks Star Wars is for kids and seems resistant to “adult Star Wars”.

Hopefully Gilroy gets his Death Troopers project made, Ahsoka Season 2 and the Mando movie are good, and the 2 sides can coexist.

If Roger Moore’s take on James Bond and Daniel Craig’s take on James Bond can exist and be successful in the same universe this sure as shit can.

“Mando” isn’t in the same universe as Andor. This is honestly some of the best acting/writing I’ve seen…it just so has happened in a galaxy far far away. I just finished my rewatch and it’s even better the second time.

Sorry if already mentioned, but I assume the knowing little nod between the two Senate building workers after they told the ISB agent that the control room was locked and the key was in a different office meant that they worked for Luthen or someone similar?

I doubt we get this level of maturity ever again from a Star Wars project. I have friends that like Star Wars and what Andor has done but fall in the line of thinking that the franchise isn’t meant to be this mature. The farthest they think the franchise should go is on the level of R1.

Well Gilroy said the same thing so I doubt there's much friction other than some jealousy on the accolades Andor is getting from critics. Filoni can handle the nerd side of Star Wars just fine but he's definitely a Lucas disciple down to his inability to write compelling dialogue. Ahsoka proved that out. Gilroy writes for adults. Filoni writes for the prequel and Clone Wars generation. I think Favreau is too busy to care that much. Gilroy's dismissiveness about not caring to fill the same mythos exactly as they do might rub him the wrong way.

I don't know why they would need to collaborate or communicate since Andor is a bottled in series. It won't have any effects on Ahsoka or Mando other than Mon Mothma making an appearance which she's already done. All of the people from Andor and Rogue One are either dead or their stories ended. I know Gilroy leans on Pablo Hidalgo and the story group for lore and making sure he's not stepping on toes or breaking canon too much. They did completely rewrite the K2SO origin that was in a comic book but who gives a shit. That crap bothers me to begin with.

Adding Mon's Senate speech actually worked well because it was her open rebellion against the Empire warning her colleagues that they're all being played which not as many people saw. Then you can still have her give her Rebels speech because it fits with asking people to join the Rebellion. I know Dan Gilroy was opposed to using Mon's existing speech because he hated it so Tony wrote a new one for the show but they still referenced the Rebels one.

Well reasoned. I was trying to remember Hidalgo’s name. Apparently, the guy is the living, breathing Star Wars Encyclopedia.
