No stupid serving subs tonight. Elliot switched Caffey and Bella, which was the right move. Changed the match. And only sub I remember was Parra for one rotation in the front row and got a kill

It’s funny because I remember arguing it made no sense to start Bergmark over Caffey after the Iowa State loss but I’m now changing my stance.

We don’t set Caffey enough to justify her playing over Bergmark because she makes our block substantially better.

Y’all are not giving SD credit. They played very well, and they were very scrappy. Scrappy is not conventional and gives even the best teams fits. We never let things get out of control and adjusted to their style of play.

Very true, but offensively we had a ton of unforced errors and missed plays. A bit tightening and that is a fairly straightforward sweep.

very scrappy. Huge block when Blossom is in the backrow. They run a fast offense with a really good setter but they don’t pass well. It showed

They could have been a 1 seed. They are legit. They made us work even when we stopped beating ourselves. A lot of long rallies

Volleyball experts. Down 4-0 in the 4th what was the thinking behind setting Parra who had not played all match?

Seemed like a gutsy call and it worked.

With the rotation that Texas was in Skinner was on the right side and Phillips was on the left. Not the ideal scenario as Phillips is not a natural left side hitter (middle blocker all throughout high school) and has a limited range of shots. So if the pass is off and SKT has no other option but to moonball it to the left, it's essentially a free ball. Parra is a natural OH, played internationally, and can beat the block as her arm swing is much faster than Phillip's.

There are other ways to get out of this rotation but it involves 'stacking' the hitters to one side and one of the wing hitters is basically running/sprinting the full width of the court to get in position to hit.

I rather vividly remember both Caffey and Akana being nemeses in our last loss to Corn.  Neither has been as effective here as I thought they would be, but probably Caffey moreso.

I thought Akana was good tonight. She put a lot of pressure on USD at the service line.

That's pretty much why they brought her here correct?

Pitt forgot to show up

Haven't watched the team too much this season but one thing I noticed tonight was that, during timeouts, Elliott stood away from the team and an assistant was directly communicating with / coaching the team.

Guessing that's pretty standard for Elliott?

Yes, Erik tends to handle the huddle

Yes, she's been quietly effective at the service line, but somewhat disappointing on the floor.  I think a bigger overall contributor than Caffey.

With Carissa Barnes and Halter next year I’m not concerned on her winning the black jersey. She’ll continue to just play as a DS and serving sub

When is the last time Texas had a defensive specialist as good as Halter as a freshman?

It's crazy to say but I think she might end up being better than Fleck before she's done at Texas.

Except that our littles historically don't seem to ever get better.  But yeah, Baby Spice is really, really good.

I’m an admitted amateur at this sport, but studying the film from that game, it seems the fewer points we scored, the more we won.  Which leads me to some interesting conclusions.

I'm hoping one of your conclusions is that it takes a minimum of 25 points to win?  :D
