Its really hard to fake being asymptotic from a concussion.

It can be impossible or it can be very easy depending on what lingering symptoms you have. If it's just a headache that's obviously easy to fake.

Bobby gave the 6 step recovery and Arch if he practiced today is at least at step 3, if not 4. I still will be shocked if Arch comes out Saturday for the first snap.

Arch needs to talk to Skatteboo to pass the test.

He'll play if he can pass the test. He needs to put the star in the star hole - not the hexagaon, the star hole. That's a very difficult test for many.

Until he can do that, he's still on the protocol.

They said the same thing at the Disch after he blasted a HR.  Dude was a dual sport baller.

He and Bobby Layne were just built different. Same with Houston Street.

Slide.

Someone else said it. 2nd and 2 could have easily become 2 and 7 with a false start or 2nd and 12 with holding. Arch knew it best and could not trust his OL with a slide.

Instead it became 1st and Cocoa Puffs.

I don't want them to rush him back...give him time.  If they can't win this game without them, it's not likely they win with a bit of a banged up, if not at least very careful, version of Arch protecting himself as he should.

100% he's got a brighter future than being a battering ram for the matador OL.

If Arch is cleared to play (strong doubt) and they put training wheels on him as far as running when needed just play Caldwell.

We absolutely need the mobile version of Arch. I don't like rushing him back even if he's cleared - that doesn't mean Texas gets an effective Arch Manning. Given there's a bye after this week, I'd be inclined to start Caldwell and bring Arch in only if Caldwell struggles.

Arch couldn't count to potato after that hit.  Someone pulled him up into a sitting position on field and when they let go of him he just flopped right over again. The guy was on another planet.  Surely these reports of him practicing are just to keep Vanderbilt, guessing right? Surely "practicing" means simply being present at practice on the sideline.

Local sports guys interviewed a guy about concussion protocols.  Seems like it's a 6-level process, with increasing levels of activity and various cognitive tests along the way.  It sounded like Arch being dressed out at practice (but not actually practicing) was consistent with the process.  It doesn't mean he'll play Saturday.

Sarkisian hints at inquiry to SEC over Manning

By Thomas Jones

The hit that ended a career game for Texas football quarterback Arch Manning in Saturday’s 45- 38 overtime win against Mississippi State didn’t draw a flag from the officials, but it drew plenty of ire from coach Steve Sarkisian.

On the first play of overtime, Manning scrambled for 13 yards to the 12-yard line. As safety Isaac Smith brought Manning to the ground with a tackle around his legs, 6-foot-4 defensive tackle Kedrick Bingley-Jones came in from behind and hit Manning in the back of the head with his forearm and shoulder. Manning’s head bounced off the turf and he stayed on the ground for a few moments before making his way to the sideline and into the injury tent.

Sarkisian voiced his opinion to the officiating crew but didn’t spend too much time arguing the lack of a penalty. He had a game to win, which happened after backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell connected with Emmett Mosley V for a 10- yard touchdown pass.
During his weekly news conference Monday, however, Sarkisian revealed that he likely filed an official inquiry into the lack of a flag on the hit to Manning. Sarkisian didn’t specifically mention that play because he’s cagey enough not to publicly call out an officiating crew. But when asked about the hit, he did say “we’ve turned in a few plays” to the SEC, and that’s not uncommon.

“We’re always trying just to make sure that we’re understanding of the rules,” Sarkisian said. “The last thing I want to do on game day is be complaining to the officials the whole time. So, I just want to make sure that I know how we’re officiating certain plays so that I can complain when it’s appropriate.”

Bingley-Jones’ hit ended a massive game for Manning, who threw for a career-high 346 yards on 29-of-46 passing while racking up four total touchdowns. Manning paused while entering the medical tent on the Texas sidelines to watch Caldwell’s touchdown pass, and he spent the rest of the game in the tent.

On Monday, Sarkisian said Manning didn’t participate in the team’s morning practice and remained in concussion protocol as the Longhorns prep for Saturday’s meeting with No. 9 Vanderbilt.

“We’ll have more information as the week goes on.”

Good to hear. There's no reason to act like a petulant child and "call out" officials immediately after the game while you're pissed off. Coaches should submit a handful of plays to the SEC's Coordinator of Officials, John McDaid, every week for rules interpretations. All you can ask for is consistency in how rules are enforced.

I agree with you that a coach shouldn’t act like that. But disagree there is no reason to do it…these refs are clearly influenced by that complaining and it sure looks like it benefits whinny coaches like Kirby.

You're talking about in-game complaining and coaches' temper tantrums, right?

I disagreed with calling out officials in the press immediately after the game. If a HC loses it over an egregiously bad call during the game, that's his prerogative, but it shows a lack of emotional control. It happens, and if that influences the officials, they're probably too weak-minded for the SEC.
