Arch Manning: Doing his best JAG impression to fool scouts

So, I had this conversation with @Ldogg53yesterday (and may have posted it here). The two HS games I saw of Arch did not scream #1 overall recruit. I'm sure he has showed something somewhere (camps & other games). I expect him to be a better pro than college QB if the family tradition holds.

Thank you!

Finally someone provides insight into why he has regressed since last year.

With all of the training and camps, there is no reason his feet are so bad. Look at that throw to the TE in the Twitter thread above. He should be turning and firing that over there. Instead, it’s a side arm pass with bad feet and no zip.

He moves well in the pocket, but never resets his feet when he moves, even when he has plenty of time. It’s just slop feet and trying to only use his arm.

There is no way he was taught that over the years of focused coaching he has had. It has to be mental. I hope it’s a hiccup and not just what he is.

This here. Discussed with @Ldogg53 while we were watching. There is a clear difference between when he sets his feet and throws vs trying to do his Pat Mahommes is a Short Stop imitation.

The point is he's not injured or drunk.

Side note I was just looking for my boot in room after room and it was literally on my other foot.

So... Drunk.

Watching 5th year players like Joey Aguilar rise up from the Sun Belt and tear apart UGA’s defense yesterday, and then looking at the Murderer’s Row of Suck that were the 5-star QB’s in Arch’s class, you have to wonder if the big programs will change their NIL investment strategy when it comes to the position going forward.

I swear every time Arch comes into the game, he is doing shit with his rotator cuffs. Is he just super stiff and he's constantly having to stretch them out. Could that be part of why he grimaces when he throws or side arms passes?

So... I was doing push-ups one day when I was in my early 20s... I felt a severe pain in my right shoulder on one rep. The pain lasted for less than a week, but I had to change my throwing motion for football or baseball... and never recovered the same after 30 years. Occasionally a random throw just goes in the dirt or looks like a seven year old girl threw it with two hands... And I cannot do anything about it.

I am willing to bet a six pack of donuts that he has some type of impingement / cuff issue, so it affects his entire motion from time to time and he's trying to learn how to flick the ball.

But he also has terrible footwork often, which is mental...

I hope I am wrong about the shoulder.

The worst that can be said of Quinn Ewers is that he turned out to be about an 8, and we were hoping for a 9.5.  That's it.  Good kid, good leader, won a lot of games.
And I think the people who bag on Quinn are the same ones who bagged on Simms.  If you're expecting everyone to be VY or Colt, you just don't understand how special VY and Colt were.

I disagrees, the mullet was pretty bad.

Yea I too was once really going to town on my meat and sprained the cuff as well. So when I see him doing that pregame I’m like “ I get it”..

All these recruiting/high school related takes ignore the fact that Arch looked very damn good last year. Not perfect but accuracy was not an issue. Something has changed in the past 8 months.

My guess is it's purely mental OR he unwisely tried to change his mechanics.

Sark even said it was mental.

Literally, what are the odds Texas gets a manning, he was supposed to be at least good possibly great. Showed flashes last year, and then we get this guy. Feel sorry for the kid but our luck, seriously. I never thought we could get on Tyrone Swoopes level again.

Same with Quinn, granted still a hell of a lot better than arch but he was “supposed” to be like Trevor Lawerence, 1.00. You don’t miss on those guys.

Arch can’t hold Quinn’s water right now but our QB luck is insane.

Did someone do something weird to get vy and colt and now we’re screwed forever.

Exactly. He went 26-31 against an SEC team and was great at pushing the ball downfield. This is night and day.
The insane GG and Swoops comments just completely ignore that we’ve seen him, even this year, play better than either of those guys ever did.

His play has been atrocious but we’ve literally seen it not be. It’s just all very strange.

Look, none of us know shit from fuck, but after 3 games Arch looks like ass, my dude. However, towards the end of the game I did notice a difference in his demeanor and skills. Something seemed to "click". Will that translate to next game? Who knows? But what I did see was something I hadn't seen in the two games prior.

Sometimes, regardless of how highly you're ranked, it takes time for things to click, especially the speed of the game. I don't care if it's G5 or P50, it still takes times. I'm just as frustrated as anyone else, but I did actually see something click in his brain towards the end of the 4th (like 7 minutes left or some shit, I don't know the time). Maybe it took three games for him to get "it". Next game will tell.

Also, we have some fucking dudes at RB, and I am talking bad ass motherfucker carrying wallet guys. Gibson didn't fumble and bruised people, Clark showed some really good flashes for a first game, and Simon is going to absolutely annihilate some people. That kid runs with fury and anger. Getting Baxter back from his hammy will help, too. He won't have to be relied upon to be "the guy". Now he has actual, real help. We also need Wisner back. What the hell happened to him, anyway? I just want to see Townsend take a hand-off at the goal line. No one is stopping that SOB. He's a freak.

Wingo caught his first TD, let's pray he catches 9 more. Moseley should he back soon. Endries is showing he's getting more comfortable. We need to see more Townsend and get him the ball. It doesn't have to be some complex route running, just hike the ball, have Arch toss it to him, and let him go to work.

Our O-line is a fucking catastrophe. Flood is either an idiot or he's window licking. Stroh is Tristan Nickleson-level bad. Put in either Neto or Kibble and let's get to work. He's making it harder than it should be. Campbell and his fucking penalties, dude. You're a fucking senior and you still can't get that shit under control? FFS. Someone needs to help out Baker. His head is barely above water at this point. Maybe give Chatman a shot at RT just to see something, anything. Jesus Christ.

Nothing to say about our defense other than they are top 5 and look every bit of it. Our db's are fantastic, and Littleton is...a phenom. Hand him the Thorpe at the end of the year and next year and the year after before he goes in the first rd.

Oh. Yeah, that too. I looked at that list and almost fainted. Some years you have a ton of hits, and others you have what we just witnessed, but the one we just witnessed usually doesn't involve a supposed prodigy in it. That list hurts to look at it, so I'm not going to again.

Guys this isn't the early 2000s or 90s. The nutrition and S&C teams have all kinds of sensor data and take all kinds of measurements and levels daily.

If Arch was hung over and fucked up all the time it would be showing up all over the place.

I can believe that he parties, but come on knock it off with that being why he can't hit the broad side of a barn and go 10 incompletions in a row against UTEP. Seriously shut it down on this angle.

My bad.  I kind of ignored it when I first heard it from my son a few weeks ago.  It was a bit surreal to hear the exact same thing today.  I'm sure it's nothing, and apologies.  It's just hard to see someone who was playing decent football last year regress so hard for no reason.  Also, I was pretty hungover yesterday.  So maybe I was projecting.

This is a good point. If it’s yips, playing him is putting him into unnecessary physical harm.

If it’s yips, which is just about the only explanation, unless we’ve got a magician of a sport psychologist, we’re fucked. He’s not breaking that cycle at UT.

The GG and Swoops comments are about what he looks like right now, this season. Not what he looked like last season. I absolutely agree he has looked better last year. Right now, he is worse than Swoops and, at best, matching GG. Yesterday was, without exaggeration, the absolute worst QB play I've seen for a Texas QB, including Hudson Card against Arkansas. He couldn't do anything against a bad a team. He couldn't complete basic plays with any consistency.

Neither swoops or GG ever had a game as good as his SJSU game. And he wasn’t even good. That’s my point. Yesterday was absolutely not the worst QB play you’ve seen at Texas unless you just didn’t watch the GG and Swoops years at all. GG threw 5 fucking picks in a game. He had multiple games where he looked worse than we saw yesterday. Swoops had several games where he could not complete a pass except to the other team.
He sucks. That’s true. But seriously get a grip.

5 games under 100 yards passing in a season. Again, Arch was horrible and has been horrible. You all clearly are not remembering the players you’re making comparisons to.

You're fucking blind. GG threw 5 picks against a much higher level of competition. He made bad decisions. But GG could throw the ball to a wide open receiver 5 yards away. As of yesterday, Arch cannot. Those 5 pick games are coming if he keeps playing like that. I have never seen a Texas QB be this bad at, you know, just throwing the fucking football.

You're fucking blinding yourself to how fucking bad Arch was. We've had multiple wide receivers that would be more accurate than Arch was yesterday. Take away everything else, he just couldn't get the ball from point A to point B. This was beyond simple bad QBing. It was a complete inability to play the position.

I doubt it fixes anything but Sark needs to tell Arch to let it fly next week. Don’t worry about turning the ball over or anything, don’t think, just see it and throw it. Play him the entire game if you have to, we (probably) win no matter how bad he is.

If there’s no sign of improvement you have a bye week to get Caldwell ready for Florida.

No he couldn’t. Holy shit did you really not watch GG play. He quite literally could only make throws behind the line of scrimmage. That was the entire fucking problem. He was one of the most inaccurate passers ever to play here. He also had no ability to stretch the field at all.
Find any game, any, that GG played as well as Arch last fucking week. And again, Arch wasn’t even good.

To be fair Arch’s “good game” was just 5 minutes of said game. The rest of the game he wasn’t very good

Karma farming by posting this in here because this is the most active thread right now. Also, I know Goosby is probably our best offensive lineman.

But the fact that 1. nobody put a foot in his ass or 2. his ass wasn't plastered to the bench for a few snaps because of the bullshit effort here is appalling.

Lazy ass cut block attempt allowed a free hit on your quarterback. That shit is unacceptable.

Yolo Lacey. Worst case scenario is sark and Milwee coach the talent out of him or he folds under pressure. Best case he’s a gamer we think he can be and is a playmaker outside the pocket.

I did. But, I mean, fuck, GG's career completion percentage at Texas was 59%, which is fucking 15 points better than Arch was against goddamn UTEP. This was historically bad play at the QB position.

Congrats, as far as completion percentage goes, he was better than GG against Nebraska and that's about it. Every other game GG threw for more yards and a higher completion percentage than Arch did against fucking UTEP. And, while Arch was only credited with 1 interception yesterday, at least 2 more throws should have been intercepted. And even the TD to Wingo is probably a pick 6 against good corners.

Well I can only see maybe 2 or 3(SHSU/Kentucky/Florida?) guaranteed wins

tbd on arch, we may see worse as the season goes

If you want to feel a little better, part of the reason Texas ran the ball so much yesterday was not just Arch issues, but also because they know the running offense is struggling. So now you can feel slightly better about Arch and much worse about the state of the running game.

Yes, 1, that was a typo. I really don't know why you're suffering here. I'm not saying Arch can't be better. I'm saying that right now, in this moment, he is atrocious. Yes, worse than GG except for maybe one GG game, atrocious. Why you think that is a victory of some sort for you I cannot fathom.
