i saw some film from arch’s senior year and it was shocking how bad his competition was. it looked like he was facing SPC competition (southwest preparatory conference, eg st.andrews, st.stephens, regents). you’d think that any team with him on it would sleepwalk to an undefeated season and state title. i couldn’t believe that his family didn’t have him facing better competition.

Just to make a counter point on this ALL THE MANNINGS played there. All had good NFL careers. Talent he played was not always great, neither was the talent he played with. His brother was the center at under 200 pounds. The blow out was to U Lab, which historically puts out a lot of talent.

I think if the mechanics are off at home vs a cupcake is telling. Lets just say Saturday wont tell us if Arch is fine for the rest of the year, but it could at least hold off the meltdown.

I don't expect his mechanics to look bad against these next 3.  less pressure and the speed of the game will be a bit slower.

This. I couldn't put my finger on it, but he just never looked 'right' to me. Maybe a nagging injury or some weird kink in his mechanics has popped up? Who knows. But he always looked relaxed and loose last year. He never looked that way last Saturday.

He was always stretching his arms like he was tight.

His mechanics were off from his first step off the bus. Why I think this was more about 6 months of hearing how awesome he would be and the pressure that came with it. OSU did a lot on defense, and it definitely contributed to the issues, but I think this was mostly in Arch's head. It wasnt like he took a few sacks and the mechanics fell apart. This is good game to gather himself and look like the QB he did last year (mechanically speaking). If he does not regroup, well shit

I've been as high on Arch as anyone on this board. Here are some true statements:

1. He looked like shit in his first Spring game. Clearly a huge jump from Newman to college ball and he looked very raw and overwhelmed.

2. He looked good in the Spring game last year. Much more confident and accurate throws.

3. He played well when Ewers went down in UTSA game.

4. He made some glaring "rookie" mistakes along with nice deep balls in UL Monroe game.

5. He played fantastic the following week vs. Mississippi State.

6. He was completely off vs. Ohio State

He needs consistent reps to find consistency. Just like every other Manning. Peyton threw one of the ugliest balls we've ever seen. He had almost 30 INTs his rookie year in the NFL. Eli made a bunch of dumbuck mistakes.  Arch is just now the true starting QB. I'm just as disappointed in his performance on Saturday as everyone else. But it makes more sense when you look back at people saying "How can Arch ever meet the hype?", "This is biggest opening CFB ever", and Texas being pre-season ranked #1 with Arch as the Heisman favorite. We were hoping that stuff didn't matter, but it looks like it had an effect on him.

Now he can take a breath and get shit figured out.

Great post.  He also looked crappy vs uga but limited playing time there

this was too good to be true.  I thought he was cool hand Luke but if you look at his celebrations he’s pretty high strung. He’s been bottling g up a lot and it just got to him.

I'm convinced that I remember Peyton having that same tic with stretching out his arm/shoulder like that, but I can't find any video evidence.

Peyton and Eli are not "generational" due to their physical talents. It's what's in between the ears, and that's clearly what Arch needs to improve on at the moment, and that comes with game reps.

Arch needs to spend more time breaking down film with his uncles, including self-scouting his mechanics.

He was often facing SPC-level competition. I had the same concerns initially, but thought he'd worked thru the "speed of the game" issue by Mississippi State last year. Ohio St = UGA, and he looked dazed & confused in both games.

No he started one game before that against a cupcake. And his first pass (or maybe second or third, but def first drive I believe) was a perfect strike on a slant down the seam that went to the house. Maybe someone can find a video of that

Just sayin. Colt was always accurate and it was obvious from his first drive as a starter.

No he didn't. In the second he had one long pass to Sweed for 30 yards but it was a short pass in the RZ that scored the only TD. Yes, a pass in the RZ. In all, Colt had fewer yards passing than Arch with a similar miss rate against what one could easily argue was a similar quality defense in OSU. However, games are longer now so direct comparisons are difficult.

One variance that should be noted is Texas did have an RB named Jamaal Charles, not that Texas ran him enough.

After rewatching his throws, I’m going to give him props for remaining very calm in the pocket and trusting his blockers. He did this exceptionally well, considering the situation.

Even when the blockers were late, he was easily able to maneuver in the pocket to avoid the rushers and still make throws, something Ewers was never able to do in 3 years as a starter.

That's the crux.  The speed of the game and the ability to process information quickly and accurately.

Why doesn’t Ryan Clark hold OBJ to the same standard? Why did Newman go 7-4 and get blown out by East Feliciana 56-32 in the playoffs?

why didn’t Adrian Peterson get past the second round of playoffs?

He’s seen our defense every day in practice for three years. Speed of the game at this point should not be an issue.

By that notion every team with a great defense should have great offensive production as well.  The problem is that you see them every day.  You know them.  You know what they are trying to do, their schemes, tendencies, etc.  Going to face the #1 team in their house is a different beast.

Ehhh you hear Bama players talk from the 2010s and they say their practices were harder than games. Speed of game shouldn’t have been an issue considering the talent level we have top to bottom in roster.

Hot take culture has ruined sports conversations. External build-up and tear down.

Arch played like shit on Saturday. If one throw late goes for a touchdown, we go to overtime, get a pick 6 and win the game, Ryan Clark is not spouting this bullshit. Would Arch still have played a overall poor game in that scenario? Yes. But all of this tearing down right now is mainly because we lost the game.

Peyton and Eli got a ton of reps in college and each played 4 years. They both went to Newman and played 2A ball against shit competition. Arch is continuing the Manning process. Of course being able to actually play the position and have good teammates matters in success, but 6'5", 230 and 6'4" 220 with the ability to throw a football is a pretty good start.

Exactly, especially first game out of the shoot. There's a reason high school teams scrimmage opposing schools prior to the season starting. Don't know if the still do, but once upon a time they did.

And rubbing his shoulder.

Multiple times during the game.

Throwing side arm which is less painful if you have a shoulder injury.

Leaning to his left when he did throw over hand long balls which is a reflex to... a shoulder injury.

None of which we saw prior.

Again, I'm not concluding he had an injury BUT there is historical precedent at Texas to hide severity of health issues with QBs and there are a lot of factors that indicate it's a possibility. It could be all mental. It could be a combination.

Yeah, there have been a shit of of great Ds that were paired with shitty Os. Granted EOY stats for the Ds weren't great because they get worn down, but they absolutely happen.

dropped TD at 3:49 was brutal too

jaggerson made up for it later, but to me this was the backbreaker, even more than the tush push fail.

Also, Wingo was wide open for a TD coming across as their DBs screened themselves....

He will watch tape, learn from his mistakes, and adapt to hit these later this year. Should be rolling by the Florida game for sure.

Honestly I was a little worried about the game at Florida for us, but after watching this defense play, I think we roll Florida at Florida pretty easily.

That would have been a tough catch, even without the DB draped all over him. And the DB was draped all over him. Although our DBs had been playing Smith pretty physically all game, so I don't mind the no-call. To me, Livingstone was a pleasant surprise and a genuine asset. Putting the memes and jokes aside, he looked more athletic than I expected.

I can remember seeing Peyton do it as well. Not sure if it was later in his career though when his neck/arm started to bother him.

Peyton's neck was BROKEN my dude

May 23, 2010 – Minimally invasive procedure

Reported as a laminotomy/discectomy (removing herniated disc fragments pressing on the nerve root).

Goal: relieve nerve compression.

Outcome: temporary relief, symptoms returned.

March 2, 2011 – Posterior cervical foraminotomy

This widens the foramen (bony opening where nerves exit the spine) to reduce nerve compression.

Did not fully resolve weakness.

May 23, 2011 – Anterior cervical discectomy

Another attempt to remove disc material from the front of the neck.

Still not effective for long-term nerve regeneration.

September 8, 2011 – Single-level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion (ACDF)

Surgeons removed the damaged disc, replaced it with a bone graft, and fused the vertebrae (likely C5–C6 or C6–C7).

A titanium plate and screws were placed for stabilization.

This is the definitive surgery but left him with long-term nerve damage.

These breakdowns from IT are actually something I enjoy even with Boyd involved because they will use game film. I wish OTF would do the same with their breakdowns. @immamac is this something Bobby may have in the works or are they being strict about YTs dmca policy? Would really elevate their channel if he can work his magic with the school and get all 22 for their channel.

The karma and engagement farming on whether Arch is a flop, is just as ridiculous as the hype in the run up to the OSU game. Made worse when it's done by writers and journalist who know damn well one sample game against arguably the best team we will face until the playoffs (god willing), is nauseating. One thing for sure, I am glad he has a support system that can keep him grounded from all this negativity. 🤘🏾
