Bryan-College Station eats

I tried to search first. But I’ve got a friend from Birmingham going to the game this weekend. His in laws are going with him and they want to eat at some decent places. I don’t know that there’s anything actually nice there, but at the minimum good food.

The Dixie Chicken is out, but any other real suggestions would be appreciated. I told him to go to Austin or Houston, but I don’t think they want to drive.

College Station isn’t very close to anything. I believe most of the SEC teams stay at Margaritaville in Conroe. It’s a solid 60 miles from College Station.

So if long drives are out, Caffe Capri is pretty good for Italian. It’s in a cool historic(?) building in downtown Bryan.

The Rosa’s on University is a good location. Much better than the location on Slaughter in Austin unfortunately.

The original Layne’s probably isn’t worth you time. They’ve nailed the concept at other locations. It is good though.

I’ve heard good things about The Republic, but it’s just as expensive as most steak houses in the major Texas cities.

The restaurant at Messina Hof is pretty solid, but it’s small and out of the way.

Other than that, Bryan/College Station has almost every chain restaurant that you’d find in almost every Texas suburb.

I have, unfortunately, had the need on more than several occasions to host business dinners in CS and The Republic has always been my move. It's solid. As you said, probably just as expensive as the big city steakhouses, but not a shitty chain and I could expense it.

Everything near campus will be a shit show - the chicken is fun on game day good burgers but will be packed , south college station near tower point has some good resturaunts -Petit Cochon ( owned by an Austinite that has a few other resturaunts in town ) casa de Brazil , marfa kitchen - and downtown bryan has several places most of out of towners  will miss . But college station around the school will be packed - the republic likely is full already

If they like chicken wings , chicken strips - cs has a monopoly on shitty chicken - laynes , chicken express , wings and things , wings and more , rooster run , bobs spicy chicken, Zaby’s , Buffalo Wild Wings , raisin canes - and various Asian tales on “wings”

they will fit right in at any of those if they like their sweet tea by the galllon .

tell them to call now for reservation at Marfa Texas Kitchen on fitch - they have a nice patio out back and weather will be nice, good drinks small good menu and casual - it’s one of the few places I can go here and not feel like I’m here

WTF is Layne's? I haven't spent much time in the lit station but when I have no one mentioned Layne's. Seems like a Cane's ripoff.

It is, but I like Layne’s better than Cane’s. Cane’s tenders are usually very dry. Layne’s tenders are on par with Chick-fil-A. Sauces are nearly identical. Maybe Layne’s sauce is a smidge spicier. Fries and Texas toast are also identical.

The decor at the original Layne’s location unfortunately is like a mini Dixie Chicken. Goofy aggy memorabilia all over the walls. Another rent free space for Longhorns.

The chain Layne’s locations don’t have any aggy shit on the walls, but there’s usually maroon everywhere.

If they are hanging around campus things will be full as previously indicated, if they have transportation and are open to straying from campus these are some good options.

Cilantro in Bryan is good. hole in the wall tex-mex

Mr. G's Italian Pizzeria (also downtown Bryan) is good pizza / Italian (casual)

1860 Italia (south college station) is good Italian (fancy for that area)

Poche's Seafood (Cajun / Creole) https://pochesseafoodshoppeandrestaurant.com/

Le Petit Cochon (French Bistro) https://lepetitcochonbcs.com/ also south of town

Gate 12 Bar & Grill (next to the airport) https://gate12barandgrill.com/ good food and a somewhat unique setting. (casual)

Cooper's BBQ (decent BBQ and they can handle large gameday type crowds)

Napa Flats (basically an independent chilis)

Hopdoddy & Piada pretty close to campus in an area called Century Square where there are several restaurants

I don’t ever want to catch shit again about visiting TexAgs. This son of a bitch must live in College Station.

The testimonial on their splash page reads like it was written by the same person who writes the visiting fan fan fiction.

"I have lived all around the world and have found no better food or service..."

chef is a friend of scottsin, has an Italian restaurant in BCS, too, but the name escapes me.  scottsin sent the wife and i there and his food was very good.

I'm sure, but you have to admit that review kinda hits all the marks of the visiting fan letters.

1860, Poché’s and the Bistro are all from a friend I’ve known forever. He’s talented AF. Like, when he was sourcing food for 1860, he went and worked a shrimp boat for a week before making a deal with the owner.
