#4 just feels very hollow, I guess when we suck again we will look back and say at least we were in the middle of it. Right now all this means very little knowing we had our chances after a turnover instead we go 4 and out and at the 1 yard line. Sark's play calling in those two situations was deserving of our loss.

I think this is ridiculous. Did we win a championship? No. We didn't win the SEC and we didn't win the National Championship. So nothing goes on the wall or whatever, though I guess we got a Citrus Bowl Trophy for whatever that is worth.

But still finishing in the top 5 is a really good season. Sure I would rather finish first than fourth. But this whole "if you're not first you're last" shit is idiotic. And yeah we should milk back to back top five finishes for recruiting purposes and propaganda purposes. To do otherwise would be stupid and counter-productive.

This was my response to Kyle Umlang.

A&M should celebrate a 4th place finish. They have only have one since 1939 and that was in that weird Covid season.

I take issue with the morons who had us outside the top five, and anyone with eyes and a brain can't seriously think we wouldn't torch the Ducks head to head.

I got no issues with Oregon ahead of us. 3 better wins (Boise, OSU, Penn St), 2 fewer losses, conference champs.

3, 4, IDMAS.

We were better when it mattered. They got shellacked by a team that just rolled everyone but Texas. I'm not handing the Ducks wins over Clemson and ASU, either.

Ohio State lost 2 games in the regular season. No one isn't voting them first after the CFP.

Ohio State won the national title. Notre Dame finished runner-up. Us and PSU finished T3rd or both made the "Final Four"

I've always thought that in the absence of a third place game, both teams who lost the semi-finals should finished tied for 3rd.  You can quibble about X lost by this much and Y lost by fewer points, so Y should be higher, but in the end, there's no "on the field" way to settle who is 3rd and who is 4th.

They finished 4th in the Big XII South lots of times.

They also won the Big 12 South in the year they didn't go to the champ game as the Big 12 South representative

It's on the wall, so it counts

Everyone needs to keep in mind that Rece Davis was dropped on his head as a child.  Repeatedly.

He had us #3 going into the playoffs, then somehow our run to the semifinal convinced him to drop us to #6 now.

Your explanation is as good as any.

I truly believe Texas was one play away from the national Championship. Any of those four downs at the goal line.

Two years in a row.

I agree, but the play was the screen before halftime. If that doesn't happen, we kick a filed goal on 4th down there to go up, and bleed as much clock as possible, instead of just playing for a tie/overtime.

But you/we don’t know that the rest of the game would have played out like it did if that had happened. We might not have been in a go-ahead situation there, but goddamn I wish I could know the answer to that question. That was as big of a first half gut-punch as it gets…

Something I haven't seen brought up much is that Texas beat the ACC champs then the B12 champs to get to the semis.
