I was really surprised Kavan didn’t start yesterday. I won’t post like I have any clue about the roster or who should have gone but if Kavan is the best pitcher then she should have pitched.

and serious questions for the softball experts. I thought softball pitchers having a different motion allowed them to throw multiple games in a row like canady is about to do? And they didn’t experience “fatigue” like I guess some assume? I mean obviously she’s more fresh with days off but was just wondering since it different than baseball and I watch for enjoyment only for softball.

You can get fatigued but it’s not an arm issue, it’s more of exhaustion issue from use of the lower body to power the pitch.

Her control was slightly worse yesterday than Wednesday and we seemed to be seeing her pitches better. She may not take any velo off but I think we can put up some runs on her today.

Felt her pitches had less movement, even flat. But, she is smart and started going to the curve and screw more

Atwood should have taken her yard before her first strikeout. That was the easiest pitch to hit she has probably thrown all year.

I hope they get the game in tonight and don't drag it to Saturday.  That's all I'm going to say.

Mostly because an extra day sitting around sucks.

agree. might as well hope we get some advantage for not throwing our ace yesterday.  there is college baseball on Saturday but Saturday night is about as clean as it gets. no NHL, no NBA, and weather should be clear vs. losing viewership if the game gets delayed to 9 or 10PM tonight.

yes agree, I was just saying that for ESPN, Sat night is pretty clean from a competing event standpoint.  although they own everything so maybe they don't care that much.

2021, they played game 3 at like 1pm on a Friday bc of weather lol

I was talking to a co-worker who was a college softball pitcher about this yesterday.  Her words were "yea you might be a bit tired, but 20 hours of rest usually is fine", and then she added, "the mental fatigue is the thing that will actually get you."

Pitching is a very singled out, solitary activity where you are having to think a whole lot, who the batter is, what's working well, what they hit well, what's being called, what's the situation, did I just walk somebody, give up a hard shot, blah blah blah.  Given the time between each pitch your mind has a lot of space to wear you down.

we wait to late in these fucking games to rally. Hunter is jogging down the fucking bases, white is having mental lapses, and our infield is still so bad. I’m not sure what’s going to happen tonight but we need our big players to show up tonight

1000% … if not for Canady’s game 1 brainfart, TT would be home already celebrating … and folks in Austin would be looking for a tall tree.

this is exactly why I pitch Kavan(plus the weather forecast was known also).  He was rolling with house money big after 4 innings, I would have even brought her in after Mac.  yesterday she could have been pitching free and easy knowing she had a game to work with.  he brings her in after tie game is blown and now she is under the gun again.

she has been nails post season so hoping we get the performance that we can talk about for years like 2006 USC and VY.

Texas Tech superstar pitcher NiJaree Canady was the first $1 million softball player. She's also the second.

Canady has signed another seven-figure NIL contract with the Matador Club, the Red Raiders collective, her manager Derrick Shelby of Prestige Management told ESPN.

I mean, Mike's gambles all night almost worked out, where we could have brought TK in with a lead, or in the 6th/7th in a tie game.

-Mac did great, maybe should have gone a little longer (?)
-If Cam doesn't hit that batter with 2 strikes, Tech scores 0 that inning (and Mia's HR might be the game winner)
-Cit was/is so bad - can no longer throw strikes.  Bringing it Cit was the wrong move, IMO. She doesn't need to see another inning at Texas.

IMO, the biggest gamble that didn't work out was when we had runners on the corners with 2 outs after Stewie's single and Mike didn't pinch hit Hunter.  She and Citlaly can go play at UTSA next year.

The shoulder rotation motion is much more natural than the elbow hyperextension that occurs in baseball (the shoulder is designed to be able to rotate like the after all. Elbow isn't designed to hyperextend). So there is certainly less arm fatigue in softball compared to baseball and less injury risk with increasing pitch counts.

Legs with the leg drive will get fatigued faster than arms. Someone above mentioned wrist/hand fatigue because that's what generates the spin rate.

So you likely won't see a huge drop in velocity, but could potentially see less movement and less pinpoint control.

Agreed. Mac for another inning or two and then Kavan …. Plus Mac is a senior and has more experience in big games. Could not believe he brought in anybody else unless it was an emergency.... like an injury.

I don't like how much success in softball depends on one player on your team.   It's like if a basketball team had a 9'6 400 lb guy who could run fast and shoot 90% from the FT line.

It's like youth tackle football and whoever has the fastest kid almost always wins.

For the most part, Cam did a good job for a freshman.  The 2 out, 2 strike HBP was such a back breaker.

The 3 biggest bonehead moves on the night, to me:

Putting in Citlaly
Not pinch hitting for Hunter with runners on the corners, because she wasn't going to do anything at all
Not pinch hitting for Maloney with the tying run on 3rd and 1 out.  Dare I say I would trust VQ to put something in the air more than a slapper in that situation.  All you needed was a ball in the OF to get the tying run home.  I know Maloney is a .400+ hitter and 90+ hits on the year, but she's not going to stand in and swing away.

A championship series aint the place to throw anyone but Mac and TK. He got lucky Salmon worked for 1 inning, he was fucking stupid for bringing in Cit.

This is the guy who started Cam Salmon in game 2 of the Clemson super, down 0-1 in the series

Like you said, he was fucking stupid for bringing in Cit.  If she hasn't been a launching pad for HRs lately, it's her inability to throw strikes.

It's different from beating them in a 3-game series.

History was still not on our side for that 1-0 game against OU. 0-6 (?) against OU in the WCWS before that game.

Granted, 5 of those losses were the 2022 and 2024 WCWS - 4 in the 2 champ series sweeps and a loss in the 1-0 game in 2022.  We lost to them in the 1-0 game in 2013 as well.

It's all moot if we win game 3

I don't think he's a dumbass either way.  He's a much better coach than any of us armchair softball experts could ever be ...and hindsight is 20/20.  I just think he or Patty Ruth Taylor overthought it and should have stuck with the winning formula.

I also don't think he's a dumbass (despite many on here who do, or he's passive, or he's stupid, or whatever), but as a I recall, one of the "good things" about Glasco is he is a gambler.  Mike is a gambler too.

If Glasco did a similar move and Tech won, it would be how smart and crafty and willing to take risks he is.  When you're the favorite, it's harder to make those risks without being seen as a choker.

None of it matters now. You have one more game to give everything you’ve got and hopefully come out of it with a win. The batters need to get to her and early.

As I said above, he may be too smart for his own good, a little too attuned to pitchers, having been a great one himself.

Also last thing I will say on it:

I liked the Cam move.  He showed a lot of faith in his freshman after she pitched well enough for us to be in the game against Clemson on Saturday.  He rewards good appearances, like Mac getting the start after Tennessee.  And she got that start after a good outing against Clemson in game 3.

She's going to be pretty important as a solid #2 behind TK next year and now she goes into 2026 with super regional and WCWS experience.  She was the #4 recruit in the nation for a reason.

Plus she has a such a nasty change up.

Exactly….White believed Hunter might hit Canady because of her fast bat swing and strength….she’s pretty good at making contact, but she has no speed and so far has not gotten a hit or provided positively for the team.  Tech’s been bringing a couple of lefty pinch hitters who have come thru, in fact, one is 10-20 in pinch hits and can run….we need that.

That brain fart stopped them from walking the 0-for hitter to load the bases for Mitchell, who has been much more productive. It was hardly in the bag for them but for the poor pitch that Reese hit.

Hell .....start her tonight to get some even more experience for next year too.  Kavan can come in later.   It's just the World Series.

IMO, she can get gain post season experience in the regional or supers.  Unless we absolutely needed her, I roll with the winning formula in the World Series.   We'll see tonight if it was worth the gain experience.

I was begging for a strike harder than I’ve ever begged for anything in baseball before. Fouled off fouled off ball. Felt it coming. Bam drills her. At least that’s how I remember it and I can tell I’m still mad about last night.

sidenote-is anyone else feeling a thread title change? I feel like the second place mention might be a jinx. Now it technically got us here so don’t play with fire but..something wants to see something more confident…some bravado.
