That was an entertaining race.  I got a little peeved watching Lando celebrate like he had won it all on his own but I am talking about a sport where you see pats on the back for finishing 10th.  Wanted Hamilton to get the podium but it was much better seeing Hulk get up there instead.  19th to 3rd... I hope DTS plays this one up for him.  Oscar will make a good heir apparent to Max... I don't expect him(OP) to relinquish the DC lead.

Oscar is soooo much better a driver than Lando, but a dumb arse move to break that hard.

As mentioned above, he very much loves to fuck with Max and that is one reason why he is better than Lando, Oscar isn't scared of Max, and he is more competitive and a crafty sob.

I do agree that he had done similar things with the prior safety car and if there was no warning then the 10 second penalty was damn steep because you caused him the win. Understand he needs to be penalized, but you have drivers such as Ochon and the Divine Wind who wreck people out on a regular basis and do it every fucking race.

Not sure if Lando is the bigger Wanker than Zach Brown is a bigger miserable douche', maybe both, but if Oscar wasn't at McLaren they might be the most unlikeable top team in some time. At least with RB and Max and Lewis and Merc you felt like they deserved the wins.

10 seconds for that move was excessive, though, especially since there was no warning, as you mentioned.  If you're going to penalize him at all, 5 seconds should have been the max. Instead, they gave the race win to Lando.

Agree, a case could be made for stopping the race at one point the spray was so bad and they knew the front was going to pass fairly quick.

They didn't and opted twice for a safety car procession to dry up the surface a bit,  Oscar does the same maneuver the first time with no word and then they effectively decide the race with the penalty with this all could have been avoided for stopping the race for a 15 minute period.

If their motive was not to impact the race result with a stoppage that is exactly what they did by not issuing a warning and then dropping the hammer and once again fuck Zach Brown for being such an unlikeable, smug douche' when being interviewed.

I don't think a warning was necessary.  The drivers all know it's against the rules. The safety car was having trouble staying on track in some of the corners so it wasn't a great time to play games with Max.  I would say that probably contributed to him getting a 10 second penalty.

No car may be driven unnecessarily slowly, erratically or in a manner which could be deemed potentially dangerous to other drivers or any other person at any time whilst the safety car is deployed.

Didn't George do the same thing in Canada and got no penalty?

He did.  Maybe they've talked about it in drivers meetings since then.  I really think the track conditions played a big role in this one.

Even Max thought it was overly harsh in his postrace comments.  I hate to see a race decided like that.

It's definitely not ideal, but I can't get too worked up about it since it happened because Piastri was brake checking people on a wet track.

Yeah, but that's been a regular occurrence this year.  George did it in Canada.  Oscar said he did it at other times yesterday without penalty.  Just seems like the stewards went from 0-100 real fast on that penalty for something that did not impact anyone's race. And I can't stand Lando, so that's surely influencing how I feel about it.

They might have decided to make an example of him to put a stop to it.  The drivers are like little kids when it comes to stuff like that.

It was pretty much the perfect time to do it from F1's point of view if you think about it.  McLaren ended up with the exact same number of points and Lando won, so they weren't going to bitch too much about it after the race.  The drivers are going to immediately stop doing it also because no one will want to risk losing a race over it.

Sauber sitting firmly mid-pack. Pretty damn impressive how they got their shit together. The Audi hires making an impact.

I'm optimistic about Audi.  What they did at LeMans a while back was very impressive.  Total domination for several years.

hahaha... no shit... during the race I kept telling my wife, "they're going to pit him so he comes in behind LeClerc."

Fortunately for Lewis, his Inters were shot and he had to come in when he did.

Good explanation,  I agree Oscar needed to be penalized, still think 10 was too harsh if the stewards didn't even warn him about the prior safety car, and agree on Lando and Zach acting like Lando drove a winning race.

I think if it wasn't wet, Oscar would have gotten 5. He could have caused a crash...

Facts. He won't do it again.

If that's what they want, go to the next driver's meeting and tell them the next driver to do it gets a 10 second penalty.  Don't care for the way they handled it.

The one thing I would love to see is how much Max accelerated when he saw the safety car pull off.

Pssshhhh... FIA changes rules during the race when it affects the WDC leader. Keeps the racers racing, ya know.

I've said it before, but, other than Max's sheer brilliance, Horner's assholery is about the only thing holding that leaky ship together. Going to get real interesting now. Max wearing black seems like a good fit.

I can't believe they did it in the middle of the season. Worth noting he isn't just the TP, he's the CEO...doing it now in season with new regs coming up is wild.

Fuck yeah! Cadillac gonna start off strong w/ a 6 time constructor's champion team principal!

With a Ferrari power unit and who is designing the car because it ain't Newey and Marshall and the other engineering brain power  that were critical in winning those 6 titles.

Reminds of when when Bumpas retired and left Gary to run the TCU defense. Things were never quite the same.

Why not burn it all down.  You are starting with a new design group and new power unit being built by Red Bull and Ford.  Makes perfect sense to blow it all up right?

Well, when they lose Max and Yuki, plus the existing brain drain over the last few years, plus all the unknowns going into the new regs, there is a very real chance they are a backmarker unless they can get someone like George. Even if Lindblad is basically Kimi 2.0 it's tough to be that young.

Jonathan Wheatley would have been my first call. Dude is going to get a salary bump no matter what.

Also, if I'm Cadillac I'm absolutely calling him to at least see if you can get him on board to hopefully consult on getting things set up.

Where do they even go from here if they lose Max?

I wonder if this wasn't a move to keep Verstappen.

He's in a Lebron-type situation where he should negotiate to have an player/driver out in his contract every year.

If I'm him I'm absolutely not signing a long term contact when any team on the grid would happily drop one of their drivers to get you. Especially with what's happened in the last two reg chages.

Edit: max update

First, losing Yuki is an issue?  He has scored 155 fewer points than Max and Yuki has only scored in 4 of 10 races with Red Bull.  Heck 3 of his 10 points were scored with RBR.

Second,  even if they sign George to replace Max, none of that is going to matter is they don't have a competitive car and right now who knows what they will roll out with the new regs, change in leadership, change in design, and the new power unit.

Consider that outside of drivers for the big 4 teams, there are 5 other drivers who drive for other teams that have scored more points than Alonso for Aston.

Yes. Investigated and he was cleared. She appealed. Investigated again and he was cleared and she was fired.

A friend posed an interesting question this morning.

Remove team politics from the equation and work under the premise that no team has any drivers under contract for next season,  if you were Max, and could go to any team that you wanted next season and be their lead driver which team?

Interesting query.  I think he could kick ass at Williams.  I'm a James Vowles fan.

I like Vowles,  Albon has had a solid season and you have to wonder how things would have played out if they had to retire the car a few times this season.

My friend's primary point is right now, every team has some questions about how they will handle the new power units, chassis, as well as the utilization of the active aeros next season.

Aston basically gave Newey the bank, built him a factory and a wind tunnel, but will the have a competitive PU?

Merc has some experience to draw on from Formula E for the new PU, their parent has poured billions into battery technology, but will they address their cooling issues and the chassis issues that have seemed to plague them since the lost some of their engineering staff and the death of Niki?

Ferrari is Ferrari so who knows what they roll out in 2026,  Audi has had great success in other racing, and who the fuck knows what is going on at Red Bull.

So if you are a guy who wants to amass drivers' titles that place him among the best in the sport where do you go to make that a reality?

Huh? It's been known for a while he would be out at the end of the year. How does firing him midseason change anything?  The team has been working on the new regs for a while now, and Horner was not a technically-minded team principal. This does very little to affect the new regs work, and it's not like RBR has any shot at the title this year. Plus, Horner is not very popular even within RBR. I struggle to see how firing Horner now is a bad move or changes anything.

lol wut. Williams has terrible facilities and a limited budget. They're not even sniffing the top 5 teams Max should consider unless the Merc engine is 2014 levels of better than everyone else, and even then they'd be 3rd out of 4 teams with a real chance to fall behind Alpine in a year or two.

Posted

Max has scored 165 of the team's 172 points thus far.

If Red Bull was running Lawson and Yuki from the start this season they'd probably be last in the constructors, or at least fighting with Alpine for last place. That is Horner's fault.

I think Max is gone to Merc, Toto has a boner for him and will do what it takes to get him.

My opinions, being a Red Bull fan with exactly zero insider connections...

- This feels like a goodwill gesture to try to get Max to stay

- I'd say 90% chance Max is gone from Red Bull at the end of the season...50/50 whether he goes to Mercedes or leaves the F1 circus completely behind to go try something else

- Horner deserves a good portion of the blame for how they've been handling drivers, and the decline overall...but he still deserves some credit for the success that team has had over the years as well

- Red Bull is not a car manufacturer (I know, shocking)...if they become a back marker, I wouldn't be surprised to see them just pull out of F1 completely.
