i also hope the us loses the world cup because of donald trump. i’ll gladly take the hit today to make things better in the long term.

I hesitate to ask, but…

…how does the U.S. losing in the World Cup make things better in the long term vis-à-vis Donald Trump?

i hope that the usa’s golden generation loses their home soil world cup because our cruel and demented president has scared the rest of the world off from trying to travel to our country, as a lesson for what happens when you elect an actual fascist as your president. i hope that trump has to watch canada and mexico take the world cup from him. we’ve created an unsafe environment for the world to come here, and we deserve to be punished.

Texas Basketball has been giving the middle finger to its season ticket holders while raising prices and building a new arena, and they deserve to have an empty arena for consistently giving their dedicated fans one garbage home schedule after another for more than a decade.

our fans are the exact opposite of what pancho said they are. we give our donors and season ticket holders this:

IMG_8567.thumb.jpeg.1545b224bca5681654edbe863135f115.jpeg

and our entire online fanbase (so, the hardcores) are unanimously saying, “what are you even complaining about???”. and y’all have been saying that through shaka, beard, terry, and now miller. y’all have been beating the “we’re gaming the NET system bro!” drum for years, making excuses for the super rich university while villainizing the fans who want a better home schedule. “cater to me” he says. yeah right.

If Derka's response wasn't clear, he is advocating for the World Cup to be pulled from being hosted by the U.S. for political reasons, not for Team USA to lose in the competition.

yeah.... that didn't happen

My bad. Misread the chart.  Still, it was our best 3 year stretch with a Final Four and two sweet 16s.  And we played almost no good OOC teams at home over that period.

Here are our OOC home opponents since 2000 that finished with a top-100 computer ranking.  Top 10 is orange.  Top-25 is blue

Rick Barnes = 12 top-25 and 27 top-100 teams in 16 years

  • 2000 - Arizona (13), San Diego (70)
  • 2001 - Illinois (4), Cal (35), Utah (67)
  • 2002 - Arizona (10), Providence (86)
  • 2003 -
  • 2004 - Wake Forest (16)
  • 2005 - Memphis (51), UNLV (79)
  • 2006 - Villanova (4), Tennessee (16)
  • 2007 - Arkansas (41)
  • 2008 - Wisconsin (6), Oral Roberts (76), St. Mary's (51)
  • 2009 - UCLA (14)
  • 2010 - Michigan St (19), USC (63),
  • 2011 - UConn (5), Arkansas (87)
  • 2012 - Temple (40)
  • 2013 - North Carolina (21)
  • 2014 - Michigan St (6), SF Austin (76), Vanderbilt (90)
  • 2015 - Stanford (38)

Shaka Smart = 5 top-25 / 12 top-100 teams in 6 years

  • 2016 - North Carolina (3), UConn (31), Vanderbilt (36)
  • 2017 - Alabama (58), UT Arlington (77)
  • 2018 - Michigan (6), Ole Miss (90)
  • 2019 - Purdue (11), VCU (57), Providence (66)
  • 2020 - LSU (35)
  • 2021 - Villanova (15)

Chris Beard = 3 top-25 / 4 top-100 teams in 2 years

  • 2022 - Tennessee (8)
  • 2023 - Gonzaga (2), Creighton (19), Louisiana (99)

Rodney Terry = 1 top-25 / 1 top-100 team in 2 years

  • 2024 -
  • 2025 - UConn (18)

Sean Miller (projected) = 0 top-25 / 1 top-100 team in 1 year

  • 2026 - Virginia (~90)

Barnes, Shaka and Beard all played about the same number of elite and top-100 teams on average. The only tenure that really stands out was Rodney Terry.  Not only were there almost no elite or even average opponents, the dregs of the schedule were truly bottom feeders.  It looks like more of the same for Sean Miller's first year.

Time will tell if this is a result of the new NIL / SEC environment or if it will adjust back to the type of scheduling we had from 2000-2023.

Most of ‘the hardcores’ don’t spend a dime going to games and never did during the FEC days…

the ad raised ticket prices; then they made you make a separate, basketball specific donation; then they fill the home schedule with quad 4 teams, including many teams at the bottom of quad four, teams ranked in the mid-low 300’s, and anyone who isn’t happy with that is a bad fan? were spoiled and selfish for that? lol ok.

No, that doesn't make you a bad fan, not at all.  It's a perfectly defensible opinion.

"i hope that moody is empty this fall. embarrassingly so" is not defensible, not by a long shot.

I agree with this. $4,000 a seat plus LF donation should get me at least a couple of non conference home games against teams with a pulse.  No one really wants to see us beat up on , or in last years case, struggle with the likes of:

I’m not saying you don’t have an argument as a season ticket holder for better home games.

I’m saying it’s Miller’s first season and we don’t know the details of why we didn’t get a better home slate. Wishing Moody to be empty is just immature thinking. You never want our home arena to be empty regardless of who we are playing. And then wishing for it to be empty because you didn’t personally get your wish of better home opponents?

it’s a bit much.

Regarding schedules, we typically have 9 home OOC games, plus 0-2 away games, plus a tournament or two.

Not sure how realistic it is, but this is how I would design the OOC schedule from a fan perspective:

  1. An elite tournament - Ideally Maui invitational or Battle 4 Atlantis.  That likely gives us: a top-50 game + a top-25 game + a top-10 depending on how many we win
  2. One elite home and home against:  Kansas, Duke, UNC, UConn, Michigan St, Gonzaga, UCLA, Michigan
  3. One ACC challenge home and home against a team in the top-half of that conference:  Duke, UNC, Virginia, Louisville, Syracuse, FSU, Miami, or NC State
  4. One 2 for 1 against a strong Texas historic rival: Baylor, Tech, Houston
  5. One 2 for 1 against a solid small conference team:  Creighton, Seton Hall, Wichita State, VCU, UNLV, George Mason, Marquette, Belmont, Davidson, etc.
  6. 4 home games against other UT-system schools (most in the 100-200 range):  UTSA, UT Arlington, UTEP, Stephen F Austin, UTRGV
  7. 3 home teams against bottom feeders with preference for Texas schools (all in the 300+ range):  Houston Christian, New Orleans, whatever.

I would try to arrange it such that when we are away for the ACC challenge, we get an elite home game from #2 above.  And I would stagger the H&H against the solid Texas schools with the solid small conference team so we always get at least of them at home, and sometimes two.

I've never understood - do the individual schools get to pick or even have a say in who they play in the conference challenges?  Or is it some schedule making dork in the back office of Birmingham, on the phone with some nerd in Charlotte, deciding who plays who

I thought with the Big 12/Big East thing they did it based on the previous year’s conference standings.

I don’t think individual universities get to pick their opponent. It’s all based on the conference head offices, I believe.

Agreed. But, last year the OOC schedule caused just that.  I suspect the same this year.

That's what i assumed.  So you can't really say "Acc challenge opponent only from top half of the ACC league" because you don't get a say

You want one of those opponents, guaranteed, you better schedule them yourself.

exactly this. it was embarrassing last year watching an empty moody center on tv, if seeing gaby again vs this year’s pathetic schedule is what it takes to get some better home games then im all for it.
