Hold on- sheriff blaylocks nachos is a bad thing?  What?  They are way better than what came before it.

That whole era of Astros marketing sucked and Sheriff Blaylock is a crappy brand of chili owned by the Baylor scum.

I have my issues with Crane, which I have aired frequently, but to call him a snake while trusting the Baylor scumbag who did the following to Astros/Houston sports fans is quite the choice:

1. When Bud was trying to get a new stadium for the Oilers, he shit all over the idea and said there was nothing wrong with the Dome while sucking up to guys like Ed Fowler and others in the press for them to carry his water.

2. After the Oilers announced their move to Nashville, Drayton immediately changes his tune and says the Dome is obsolete. Remember that son of a bitch had a deal to sell the team to a group that would have moved the team to northern VA until MLB stepped in to block it and helped Harris County negotiate a new stadium deal that needed a referendum to be approved. Drayton helped grease the skids for the Oilers leaving town and wanted to do the same for our beloved Astros.

3. In 2000, the first year of Enron Field, that Baylor scum LOWERED payroll causing us to miss the playoffs for the first time after making it the previous 4 years.

4. Changing Astros iconic H star logo and traditional colors for black pinstripes and brick uniforms with an open star.

5. Ditching Orbit and bringing the spawn of Satan known as Junction Jack to light.

6. Sheriff Blaylock’s Nachos.

7. Carlos Lee.

I can keep going on but I think I have stated my case and rest. Drayton is the epitome of Baylor scum who is partly responsible for the loss of one of my childhood teams and tried to have the other sold and moved to Virginia. He is the snake.

Has McLane ever had to settle multiple federal lawsuits for war profiteering?

I see your Carlos Lee and raise you Jose Abreu, Rafael Montero, and Christian Walker.

Give brown some time off. He’s been bad his last 2 outings. Or, maybe, TJ incoming.

At least Crane’s signings were in an attempt to win.  McLane tolerated mediocrity and that, in my opinion, is the absolute worst kind of ownership.

After 2005 I don’t think McLane cared about anything besides making money.  And I will forever hate him for surrendering every competitive advantage available within the rules at the time purely on the basis of “Bud doesn’t like us to do that.”

On a more personal level, I once met a lady who secretaried for McLane for 20 years and apparently he’ll squeeze a nickel so hard it cries for mercy.  She had to keep accountability for stamps, envelopes, couldn’t replace pens unless a previous pen was out of ink, etc.

McLanes's 1st two FA signings after he bought the club were Drabek and Swindell. He got the Astros to their 1st WS and never let Bagwell or Biggio leave. He did a lot of good and refused to let the team tear it down to rebuild when it was obvious it was needed after Bagwell and Biggio retired.

Not too mention that when Crane bought the club, he had a future HOF, a WS MVP, and Cy Young award winner in the organization. 2017 likely doesn't happen without those 3 guys. Sure he fucked over the franchise by signing Woody Williams and Carlos Lee, which cost the Astros dearly needed draft picks, Guess which stupid mother fucker is doing that now?

You’re pointing this out and claiming it’s a virtue?

Totally different contexts and a misunderstanding of the success cycle.

I certainly understand running it back as long as Clemens was pitching, but after 2006 the roster depth was depleted, there  was Pence and jack shit else coming up in the minors due to McLane’s servile obedience to Selig’s stupid (and unenforced) draft restrictions, and signing Lee and Williams was the kind of dumb shit the analytics community pilloried out of existence in modern MLB.

At present and under the current rules, the Astros are still on their run, and need to add on the margins or in places of weakness even if it robs from the future.  Clearly Abreu and Montero didn’t work out, but those are the kind of relatively low stakes signing the Astros need to do.

I didn't say it was a virtue. I said he fucked over the organization. The same thing Crane is doing now. At least, Crane finally saw the light with Tucker and we flipped him for premium assets, but consdering how shitty our farm system is and the lack of a quality bench guys it would have made more sense to do what they did with Tucker with Correa and Bregman as well. The Astros should never be buying FAs that are attached to the QO, unless Crane plans on spending into the tax, since he's not, it's stupid to throw away draft picks for aging vets. You could have easily brought home Goldschmidt on a one year deal. You could have easily added Tauchaman to add MLB depth to the OF.

The Astros last competitive year under McLane was 2008, which we all remember us getting fucked over by the Hurricane Ike. That team had Lance in his prime (6.9 WAR), Tejada (1.9), Wigginton (2.2), Lee(2.8), and Pence(2.3). Hell even Matsui put up (1.3) in limited PT. Roy won 17 games and Valverde saved 44 but the rest of the pitching staff wasn't that great.

The day before Ike, the Astros were riding a hot streak of 14-1. After Harvey, they limped to a 6-8 record to finish in 3rd place 3.5 games behind the WC Brewers. They also would have been the last WC under the current set-up. That was the end of their window.
