OKC vs Indiana will be the lowest rated NBA Finals in decades.
And I don't have any issue with that.

Don't you know, man!!  All these fouls are part of the plan to put the smallest market cities in the finals. It'll be a ratings bonanza!!!!!!!!

Ha! I just saw Douche-Rod sitting under the basket. I forgot he's a T'wolves owner now. Even more reason to enjoy this shit.

We strolled through the lobby of the hotel across the street pre game.  We're like you, we forgot he was part owner.  Looked like a complete tool bag.  One woman shouted "It's J Lo's ex!!"

Also, has Gobert been on the court? I legit can't remember a single thing that he's done.

He seems to just stand in the paint with his arms in the air on both sides of the court.

C'mon man. There's a difference between embellishing calls--which everyone in the NBA does to various extents--and manufacturing calls. I'm sorry you guys can't see that. There are certainly worse things to be known as than playoff-capable James Harden, so it is what it is.

what a time to get hot as a team.

Their ball-movement and selflessness is phenomenal. It isn't a fluke that they're "hot". They run the best offense in the NBA and are deep and have shooters.

..and they have one of the best coaches in the league at this point to instill all of that.  Rick was the perfect fit for Dallas back in the day, and he's doing it again.

They have several guys that are shooting way above their regular season %s.  Nembhard was a horrible shooter all year, and now he's hitting 51% of his 3s since the playoffs started. Lots of their guys are hitting a much higher clip. This team was very healthy all year too, so it's not like their record is depressed because they were missing guys, something clicked in the last month or so as they went about 15-4 to finish the season.

If NYK loses feel like Thibs threw this by keeping KAT on the bench in favor of Robinson. Regardless of KAT's plus/minus on the night NY was letting Myles Turner do whatever he wanted on O down the stretch here.

There was some bad situational basketball down the stretch there.

KAT is 2nd team All NBA and on the bench with a -20 +/-?  (I don't but into the +/- thing but still.)

Something has definitely clicked. I just don't believe in "getting hot" when it comes to the NBA Playoffs. The better team almost always wins every series. To me it looks like they are stroking it because they are playing basketball at a ridiculously high level.

You get hot when your team is on the same page and making the right plays and playing confident and selfless.

Hence why I compared them to the 2014 Spurs.

Almost have to be,  I don't know what the smallest Eastern market is.  Could be Orlando.  It may not be the smallest market but no there gives a shit about the Magic.  MIL might be the smallest Eastern Conference market now that I think of it....

3rd team but I think that was a huge fuck up by Thibs.

÷/-, especially during the game, is noisy and he had 20 points. You need to dance with who brought you here.

I mean the gap between KAT and Robinson offensively is fucking astronomical. I don’t get it. Feel like Thibs got pantsed tonight.

Probably not a coincidence that it “feels” like a lot of their looks have a foot or more of space. Not sure if it’s bad defensive or great offense, but they are getting great looks and knocking them down.

Both these teams getting stroked by OKC.

And by far the most entertaining for people who enjoy basketball. Really shitty for ratings though.

Siakam kept the Pacers in this game until the rest of the team woke up. It was pretty awesome to watch.

also, Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the last 20 years. He might be kind of a jerk, but he’s definitely not as heralded as the others.

Funny how the Nets and Clippers have the same numbers as their crosstown rivals.

I'm surprised they have the Warriors so low, I would have thought the Bay area would be a lot more than that.

Posted (edited)

Market size isn't how you determine Finals ratings - btw.

2016 OKC vs. Cavs would have done massive ratings - for example - despite being a "small market" series.

(Both 2013 and 2014 Finals did very well between SA and Miami)

Knicks would do much better over Pacers and Wolves would do better over OKC.

That said - OKC/IND isn't dead on arrival - especially if it goes 6 or 7.

What would result in trash viewership is OKC winning in a short series because no one likes them or SGA and they aren't cool enough to be the villain. Also SGA isn't even a top 2 player in the league.

What matters is that the nation has a reason to tune in. If Indy say - takes G1 off OKC - I think you could see some good numbers.

But - again - no one is trying to watch a foul-baiting Canadian with a ridiculously stacked team win in 5 games.

Haliburton got pissed around that time about the overrated poll. When he kicked it up a notch he took everyone else on the roster with him.

Market size is different from fan base, though.  The Nets are light years from being the #2 fan base.  Also, I'm not sure where they get these numbers.  OKC metro area is about 1.5M and San Antonio is around 2.3M.  Phoenix is also closer to 5M as is Detroit.

The point holds, though.  OKC and Indiana are two of the smallest markets possible for a Finals.
