Not strictly transfer related, but significant roster news

In 2021 he was at Oregon with Penei Sewell. This year they have another Mauigoa going in the top 10.

Mario probably sells it better than I do

Some connected posters on the Florida On3 board seem to think Texas will be involved and they are upset about losing him

Anyone have the Nekos article about us and Caleb Hawkins?

Just said the 3 schools main schools mentioned for him were us, OU and OSU

So Goosby and Wingo want to be here for next year, we really want them here for next year and are treating them like a priority, why is this suddenly an issue?

Texas: you want to be here next year?

TG/RW: yes. You want to pay us to be here next year?

Texas: yes

The A Team 80S GIF

Goosby/Wingo prefer as much money as possible while remaining at Texas, while Texas prefers to keep Goosby/Wingo for as little money as possible

hope that helps

A&M is going to blow their wad in this one

With Reed at QB it doesn’t matter who A&M brings in at WR. I wonder if they’ll have the cojones to upgrade over Reed

Tom Loy posted this yesterday, on the Auburn board.

While it's possible that things didn't change and the staff was aware of his plans - and still felt good - that doesn't seem to be the case, based on the reaction from the other $9.95ers.

Our fans have been nothing but bitch made whiny pussies the second we lost to Ohio State.

Miserable failure of a season, why haven't we gotten anyone from the portal yet??? (It's not open), why isn't Flood fired yet??? (we might need a couple people coaching the bowl game this week), blah blah blah

Texas has gone 12-2 (Big 12 champ and CFP semifinals), 13-3 (SEC runner up and CFP semifinals) and 9-3 (so far) in 3 seasons. After the shit sandwiches we were fed for a dozen years, our fan base expected us to immediately jump into Georgia/Ohio State/Bama under Saban territory.

2025 wasn't what we were fed by our $9.95ers, but 9-3 with wins over OU and aggy ended up pretty satisfying, and we can still hit double digit wins. And we have shit blasted OU 3 of the last 4 years and embarrassed aggy 2 years in a row.

You'd think we finished the year playing in the Pinstripe Bowl, fighting with other top 5 preseason teams to finish 7-6.

Keeping Kyle Flood so that he can coach in a meaningless exhibition game doesn't make a lick of sense. Are people really claiming that's the reason? The reason we haven't fired Flood yet is because he's not going to be fired.

Gerry made an interesting comment on OTF this morning that his Florida sources don't think they will be able to keep both Baugh and Dallas Wilson. Likely only one.

Let's see, a guy that had 12 catches and was injured all year, or our bellcow running back that everyone in CFB is trying to entice into the portal. Florida braintrust working hard on this one.

Coleman will be the best player in the portal for this entire cycle. The bidding war for him is going to be astronomical.

Hope A&M shells out a massive $$$ figure to land him, at the expense of upgrading other positions.

Or because we're waiting for his replacement to become available.

Just blow the whole load on Baugh and Coleman

Coleman is going to demand 2M plus. I hope we stay away from this one.

I figured that was pretty obvious. Same with Akina’s replacement, if it is T-Rob. Some of our potential replacements are still coaching

It doesn't matter who aggy gets at WR when they'll have Reed at QB and Wiggins calling plays.

Wouldn't surprise me if he intended to come back and then some school came in with an insane offer that changed everything.

Or he was always leaving so he could finally play with a qb who doesn't suck.

But why would Sark let Flood twist in the wind if that's the decision that's been made? I'm just not following the logic.

So with our glaring needs. Are we looking at 10-20 mil in fees required?

Portal Update

The NCAA transfer portal officially opens January 2 and players have until January 16 to enter their name.

The Texas Longhorns will be extremely active, and have a lot of work to do with needs at RB, OL, LB, secondary, WR, DL and specialists.

Jadan Baugh ...
Everyone wants to know what Florida running back Jadan Baugh is going to do. Here is the current answer, nobody knows as of last night despite confidence on the colleges that will be in pursuit front. He has not told Florida he has made a decision.

Florida is working to bring back a solid offensive group around him.

Key question here is can Florida keep both Baugh and Dallas Wilson? Florida is likely to only be able to keep one, according to a source close to the program. We shall see if that is ultimately the case. OTF hears Texas A&M is expected to be a major player for Wilson, if he hits the portal.

OTF believes Texas will be looking for two RB's with Tre Wisner hitting the portal.

Offensive line ...
Texas will be looking for up to three. Left guard is No. 1, and right guard is No. 2. But the key here is not just get an experienced player. It has to be a scheme fit. Square peg, round hole will just result in changing players without guaranteed success. The scheme fit is very key.

Two linebackers ...
Texas definitely wants two linebackers. Experienced LB's that will be a fit for Will Muschamp. They could come from SEC portal entrants, or anywhere. Obviously, Muschamp is very familiar with all the LB's in the SEC that could hop into the portal.

Over the ball DL ...
This one is simple. Texas has a need for one front line over the ball player. There are 2-3 strong candidates, assuming they enter the portal. Arkansas transfer Ian Geffrard is one of those that Texas will have sincere interest in.

Texas really likes their young DL's in Justus Terry, Myron Charles and Josiah Sharma.

Defensive back ...
Texas has a need at corner, likely safety and potential a big nickel. What Muschamp does with Graceson Littleton will be the key here. Muschamp likely prefers more size at nickel, so Littleton could make the move to CB.

We do continue to believe Texas will have sincere interest in Rutgers cornerback Bo Mascoe. Mascoe was recruited to Rutgers by Mark Orphey out of Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola High.

Wide receiver ...
Texas will be in the market for a make you miss receiver that can turn in big plays after the catch. That is pretty obvious.

I don’t get only taking up to 3 interior linemen, that makes no sense considering how bad the interior is from a starter and depth perspective.

Also what scheme exactly are they recruiting to? Sark likes to do so much with the OL in regards to scheme that it’s impossible to recruit to that

You don't know what convos Sark and Flood have had about Flood's future at Texas

We like to think we know things, but we don't. For all we know, Sark and Flood have an agreement for Flood to take a new job after the bowl game.

Also, while not in every situation in all the big name ones the replacement was already hired before the previous coach was let go. Look at PK/Muschamp timing for example.

The depth becomes deeper after you add three starters

We still do not know if we “need” three linemen. If Robertson comes back we need two.

2 minutes ago, BurntOrange&White said:

But only taking 3 when you have to fill 3 leaves no room for error or injury.

Develop your young talented players to be backups. Paying for premium backups likely leads to diminishing returns and is likely suboptimal for your starting 22, assuming some relative level of finite funds

Maybe there are special cases where quality depth is fine coming here to sit and learn to be a future coach or something, but I wouldn't count on it or view it as a need or a failure if it doesn't materialize

I don't think they want to go into next season with him as the given starter and to pay him as such. If he wants to stay put for cheap and compete, I think they'd welcome that

I know this isn’t a groundbreaking thought, but having the sport’s free agency period begin in the middle of the playoffs is the most absurd decision in all of American sports.

I mean, these are allegedly college kids and most colleges start school around January 17, so their hands are sort of tied.

Definitely true. But IMO Occam's Razor points to Sark deciding to give Flood at least one more year.

Interesting that Gerry is emphatic about OL scheme fit in that article posted by @BurntOrange&White just above us. Whose scheme?

20 minutes ago, Sgt Hulk said:

2 RBs, 2 LBs, at least 2 OL, 1 DL, 1 CB, 1 S, maybe 1 WR.

Add to that retention fees for guys like Simmons and Goosby, crossing 20 mil may not be out of the question.

But it's true - the calendar is dictated by the school year.

Just decouple the football programs from the school system at this point, because it's a fucking joke.

It’s not though. The vast vast vast majority of guys that are on D1 scholarship will only ever make money in the game teaching and coaching it. For Texas? Sure. For most other schools though it is about the school.

Decoupling makes sense if we go to 30 teams in their own league, but if you decouple it from the university who exactly will pay the freight or care? The minute they facade falls the system collapses from a revenue perspective.
