@RGBIII

You would know but I heard of a kid that was drafted fairly high and was never contacted. He claimed he would not sign and was going to school. It wasn't a Texas guy so I dont care but it was a surprise. Not sure why he would say that to another kid since he isn't negotiating at the moment.

Today was NOT a good day Moroknek, Freeman and Dotson are gone

16th round picks don't have a $ slot.  Did the Chisox go under slot somewhere?  I mean, what if they can only offer under $100K?  I don't know what his NIL is, but is say, $85K enough so he doesn't have to play school?

I think after round 10 teams are able to offer up to $125k per player without it interfering with anything else.

The options in the OF are pretty limited and we are hurting a bit on the position player side now. We are going to need someone like Anthony Pack to play as a freshman.

C- Tinney

1B- Livingston

2B- Mendoza

SS- Becerra

3B- Borba

LF- Rodriguez

CF- Pack

RF- Robbins

DH- Who the hell knows.

Wild that only one USA baseball pitcher from last year was taken and they may not sign.

My youngest is over the moon to watch his cousin even suit up for the good guys. Not many innings available with the 3 guys coming back so I am tempering his expectations. Still a great example of what hard work can get you. It is my boys dream to play in High-school, they wont even aim as high as college yet.

Going from loaded to scrambling in under 24 hours seems to be the opposite of gruntling...anticipated or not. I sure hope our SEC brethren are in the same boat, but I don't know that.

If we were pinning our hopes and dreams on 3 transfer guys, we have bigger problems. I trust Schloss.

Ha. I was going to say something about the pendulum now swinging quickly in recruiting for both sports but figured I'd first ask you hardcores if this draft is leaving us thinner than had been assumed. I've been reading how much better we were going to be with the guys who got picked today. I don't know the portal setup for fall and thus am unsure about our ability to reload again before 2026 gets here.

If the bonus number I heard on Freeman is right, he must really not want to do one more year of school.

It isn’t high at all.

That's who I was referring to earlier.  No reason to go pro under $100K.

If we assume everyone who was drafted signs:

C (3)- Tinney, Ermis, Courville

INF (6)- Livingston, Duplantier, Becerra, Mendoza, Borba, Rodriguez

OF (6)- Robbins, Williams, Hill, Pack, Petersen, Monsour

RHP (15)- Riojas, Burns, Hamilton, Howard, Flores, McCreery, Grubbs, Crossland, Paris, Furgason, Winter, Westphal, Rogers, Walls, Rummel

LHP (7)- Volantis, Harrison, McKernan, Higgins, Walker, Bing, Leffew

That is 37 right there and I'm assuming a few will be considered grandfathered in under the old 40 man roster rules, so I think we have some wiggle room to add some more guys whether it be JUCO/Portal/HS

It isn't under $100k based on what I heard, but it's not enough for me to believe he is making a smart decision.

After taxes and agent fees, they are taking home a check that is significantly less than the number that is dangled in front of them the entire time.

I’m curious if signing Freeman, Dotson, Morokenek in the height of portal season kept us from getting other guys. Hopefully we didn’t allocate too much NIL money to these 3 that kept us from being competitive with others.  If so, should we only target non-draft eligible transfers going forward and beef up the $$ to lower the risk?

The good news is we have now have freed up NIL money but not sure the quality of guys left to sign. Anyway, losing guys in the 17th round seems like Schloss was duped or he is really bad at navigating the transfer process.

Can’t we just offer them more money today as part of the process? This is chump change

I don’t really get the insistence that Jonah is done. If the issue is that his fall/winter aren’t available, that’s no different than this year and he instantly produced when called upon

Are you referencing the post you quoted, or other chatter?

Because, assuming Freeman and Moroknek sign, Williams is the second-most productive (and most at Texas) OF on the roster... Robbins seems to be legit, Peterson is older, but hasn't contributed, and then there are three freshmen.

Otherwise, with those 37 guys, we're an injury to Tinney, Robbins, or Williams away from being in a very difficult spot. Pack (32 overall, 5th OF), Monsour (229), and Monsour (242) are all highly-rated though.

Also, looking back at the 2024 class, only three! (Flores, Volantis, and Rodriguez) of the 17 players we signed are still on campus. That's absolutely wild.

Granted, Williams came in early, but he's actually class of 2025, and four signed in last year's draft. Even accounting for those moves, four of 14 seems low. I guess that's modern college baseball; especially with the 34-man limit going forward.

I believe Duplantier plays outfield?  Peterson had just about everyone on the 2025 roster play in front of him.  If we end up having to play either of these options, we have real problems.

Yeah, Duplantier can play OF. However, his primary position is 2B. He seems like a great team guy and is obviously a threat once he gets on base. But, the main issue with Jayden is he doesn't really play "hitter."

Screenshot2025-07-15at10_58_20.thumb.png.161cd832d1dc499c5649bc3f868184b6.png

The guy gets on base though. A +.182 swing between his AVG and OB% suggests that if he could just bat .240, he'd be an offensive boost. If he'd be our worst guy in terms of AVG, but have an OB% of .400+, that'd be great. Nevertheless, I hope we don't have to find out because there's a more proven option. I really hope Texas can get Freeman or Moroknek to not sign.

We have a lot of INF experience, but I figure the odd man out will naturally DH. One of Borba or Rodriquez could play a corner OF spot, if needed, but that doesn't help when the sixth guy is Duplantier.

They are already pushing for a new OF from the portal. It will all work out.

Yeah, honestly the biggest potential issue is an injury to Tinney. But that was the case before the draft, too.

I don't think many teams are walking around with great depth at catcher. I do like the JUCO kid we got there and the freshman from Louisiana is going to require some seasoning but is supposed to be pretty polished.
