I love this fucking team. I would have loved them win or lose. So much more fulfilling to watch than last year.

Thanks for joining the thread to the rest of you.

That scramble/effort point at 7-11 (I think) will be remembered.

Just like the Gary dig for a Stafford kill in the Stanford match. 2 “holy cow how did we score” points in 1 week to turn a 5th set around

By the way, the Louisville hand sign stand for Loser.

At their match point saw an idiot holding up their sign with one hand and throwing the Horns down with the other...promptly lost three points in a row.  Would love to see that BIG L energy from him right now.

Being undefeated, with our schedule so far, I don’t see how Nebraska can possibly be unanimous #1 in the rankings.

Texas still has ASU, TCU and Baylor too

Nebraska has Utah, GCU, Creighton, Arizona

Two teams in the lower part of the rankings while Texas has 3 top 20 teams Left - and TCU is gonna be top 10 by  week

Stafford 20 kills, 19 digs, 3 aces, 1 block and the game winning assist to AVW

What a beast. I liked watching her at Pitt. I LOVE watching her at Texas

This look never works very well. It happened at match point for Louisville.

Texas was down 11–6 in the 5th set and still stormed back to win in 5, knocking off No. 4 Louisville. Final: No. 2 Texas takes it. 🤘🏐 The Longhorns remain perfect at 5-0.

Who is the best back row defensive player we've ever had that was the main outside hitter? I honestly don't know. I just know Stafford is really impressive out there.

Tied at 12 apiece.

Yeah 20 kills + 18 digs seems pretty, pretty, pretty good. Is it good?

It's not just the number, although that is impressive. She looks like a legitimate back row defensive player. One handing shit all over the place. For a comparison, I thought O'Neal looked like the best defensive middle I'd ever seen...but she was without a doubt an impressive middle playing defense in the backrow after serving, not a true backcourt player.

Stafford isn't Brooke Nuneviller out there, who was a legitimate libero who was a great outside hitter for Oregon. But she would fit in with that Arkansas team from 2023.

That Kentucky team we lost to in the national championship had elite level passing. That's another team Stafford would have fit on.

I just don't recall any of our outsides being this good on defense. We've had outsides rack up big dig numbers, but it's as much because they're getting picked on as it is they're so amazing.

The whole Carlsen/Swindle dynamic hurt my heart, too.

And watching Skinner go from one of the most undefendable players I've ever seen to whatever last year was.

Just really like everything this team is about. And there's a lot of upside, too.

Man I thought JE lost his mind just bringing in another setter after what Swindle did as a freshman. Will never get it

Yeah imho 100% the setter situation last year was a big mistake by Elliott & potentially cost us a shot at another title (as we were saying pretty much throughout the season). Love what I'm seeing this year though.

Yeah I was commenting to my kid how natural she looks on the back row and is legit one of the best defenders out there. Huge transfer. Just massive.

Trying to piece together some of our most epic 5 set comebacks in the Elliot era in the 10 years.  Multiple wins when down 4+ points in the 5th set.   And the 3 consecutive years with a 5th set in the NCAAs (Florida, BYU, Utah)

  • 2025 Louisville - down 11-7 in the 5th
  • 2025 Stanford - down 10-5 in the 5th
  • 2024 Ole Miss - down 13-7 in the 5th (this may have been our only 5-set match win in 2024, that team was super unclutch)
  • 2023 Tennessee - down 24-23 in the 4th set, trailing 2-1.  Won the 5th set in less dramatic fashion, but was in the NCAA tournament and we eventually won it all
  • 2021 Washington - down 0-2, reverse swept them in the NCAA tournament, winning sets 4 and 5, -9 and -9
  • 2019 UCSB - down 2-1, won sets 4 and 5, -18 and -10 (NCAA tournament)
  • 2018 KSU - won set 5, 19-17, after being up 2-1
  • 2017 KU - down 2-1, won set 5, 18-16
  • 2017 Utah - won set 5, 16-14, after falling behind 2-1 in the NCAA tournament
  • 2016 BYU - down 11-5 in the 5th set in the NCAA tournament
  • 2015 Florida - down tied 13-13 in the 5th set in the NCAA tournament, Texas won 17-15

This team is way ahead of schedule.

That's my takeaway from the past week.  I know they're ranked #2 and that says they should be title contenders, but I don't know that anyone here thought that was legit 10 days ago.  My guess is that feelings about this side have changed quite a bit.

This team will have developed much more chemistry and experience by December. They are ahead of schedule, and there’s a lot of teachable moments.

AVW needs to be a lot smarter with her shots - more tips and deep corner shots, stop trying to solely go cross court

Bunton - get in the gym and get reps. I’m not impressed with her attacking

Big comeback last night.  I've only been able to catch parts of the Creighton, Stanford, and Louisville matches but I agree that this team is a lot more likeable and fun to watch than the Skinner/Wenaas experience the last two years.  Even in 2023 they weren't thar fun to watch until turning it on in the tournament.

Wenaas was just too maddeningly inconsistent in both hitting and passing.  I'm grateful she pulled it together for the 2023 final four.

I never really got on board with Skinner, especially following in Logan's footsteps.  A big part of it was her being a teansfer.  And not just a transfer but for two years having every broadcast run into the ground the story of her wanting nothing to do with Texas coming out of high school in Katy.  And when she did transfer to Texas (with big NIL I'm sure), she decided Texas wasn't so bad.  Gee...thanks.

A runner up team and a title team. No reason this team can’t youth its way to the title match like 2023 Nebraska did (5 major contributors were sophomores and freshmen, besides a junior RS and junior libero)

Also one of our better serving nights. Seemed a tad more aggressive with the aces.

On the other end, something was going on with Emma last night.  They were serving her hard and it was fairly effective at times.  At one time the announcers mentioned an alignment/responsibility problem with her and AVW that may have extended to other rotations.

I'm not going to ever doubt Emma's ability in serve receive or anything else for that matter, but they seem to have scouted something there.

I mentioned last night it was one of her worst serve receive matches. At one point, she was responsible for 75% of Louisville’s aces
