suspect they intended to go to the portal this last offseason like they did in years past for a couple guys, but I don't remember any starter quality portal OL this year -- at least ones that didn't portal straight to another school

Big boys shop rosters and put players in the portal, they don’t shop the portal.  Are we one of the big boys?

Comparing OL plug and play from the portal to DTs plugging and playing are two different things. Going and getting a good fit at an OL position to mesh with the rest of the group is one thing, going wholesale into the portal is another. Not only would adding 3-5 guys mean a complete retooling of the starting lineup, but also telling 5-7 guys to hit the fucking road, decimating continuity and development of those on campus.

Everyone on this thread is completely overreacting to the OL play for the first two games. The PFF score might not have been great for some of them against Ohio State, but the unit played well enough to win in that game. They played overall poorly against SJSU, but that's also what this 3 game stint is for - playing up a learning curve. We've seen OL play come together year after year with Flood. Christian Jones and the one giant dude who played for just one year as a 5th or 6th year guy and brags on Flood regularly whose name I forget both showed more in a year under Flood than they had in multiple seasons under prior coaching.

I'm fine with expecting another OT in this class and wish it would be a five person instead of a four person class, so maybe they seek one more guy or two in the portal this cycle, we'll see. Turntine is ready to play from a technique perspective on day one. Is he going to be physically ready? Again, we'll see.

I'm also fine with a bunch of mix and match experimenting at C and LG. I just don't think we're doomed at either spot, nor should not adding a transfer last cycle be viewed as an epic fail.

Wingo looks plenty fast on the field. He's gripping and trying to make plays before the ball is secured. If he settles down, he's going to have a big year. The plays are there. That all said, you sound like a fucking idiot with your whines about the guy's speed.

'The Vikings raped and pillaged their way through the north' sounds a lot merrier than a gang of Norwegian Sailors suspected of a series of rapes in the Sunderland area. Add pillage to rape and suddenly it has a certain air of knockabout fun! But pillage is bad enough by itself. It's theft, looting and arson.
Being pillaged would be an awful thing to happen to anyone. What it definitely isn't is a spoonful of sugar to help the rape go down."

We justified our lack of offense against elite defenses in the past as a by product of Ewers not being able to threaten the defense downfield allowing the Georgia’s of the world to run blitz our offense into oblivion. Now we have gone full circle to our expectations of an Arch led Sark offense opening up our run game. Against pretty good defenses Sark could scheme up open shots and enough running plays. But once a defense is good enough to have complete contempt for an aspect of our offense (Georgia passing game Ohio State running game) it was lights out for us.

All fair points but I disagree with one thing. Continuity is less important if you simply have bad players. Neto has been in this program how long exactly and we cannot trust him to start at Ohio St? Florida State and Auburn completely retooled their line in one offseason. I mean from the bottom of the league to whipping Alabama’s ass in one offseason from the portal. We did not have to start Stroh and Hutson this year to achieve some mythical continuity award. That was a choice. Hutson will not suddenly become strong halfway through his what fourth year here? Stroh and Neto are just not good enough football players to start at Texas. That is us just simply choosing to settle. And if that means they hit the portal and we lose the continuity, so be it.

Tbf, those are actual sandbags on his feet.

Stroh is too large and heavy for regular shoes, so the student trainers have to fashion shoes out of sandbags, the only material large and stable enough to provide support.

Neto isn’t playing much because he’s a fucking idiot and they’re worried about him missing an assignment in pass pro or committing a stupid penalty. People involved with the spring and summer thought he was the best player at LG - if he could be trusted.

Robertson is supposedly the best C on campus but then they’re benching the unit leader or pushing him to LG where he’s been meh when playing.

The bigger complaint about Flood should be centered around what he’s actually valuing that pushes actual performance to the background.

Why are all of y'all leaving the running game results for the most recent OSU game out of this as well? Texas didn't lose to OSU because of an inability to run the ball.

So the offensive line gelling will make Stroh less shitty? How did the gelling of our line the last two years affect Conner and his ability to run block?

The running game wasn't all that great against Michigan either. Ryan Wingo had a 55 yard end-around. The rest of the team combined for 88 yards and under 3 yards a carry.

College is weird. They include sack yards. Probably the easiest thing to do is just use the RB carries. Just think about the delta between Quinn and Arch on rushing yards.

Running yards are like golf shots, they dont ask how, they just ask how many.

The PFF score fetishizing has really kicked up this season.

Are there any former coaches or players that can opine on how closely their grading system matches up with that used by college programs?

PFF Player Grades

-2 to +2 on any given play. 0 being average.

We’ve been sucked into rehashing last year’s run offense (again), but I want to point out that the original claim was that we’ve struggled with running the ball against quality opponents for 4 years. That’s Sark’s entire tenure. Wild claim. Some have forgotten that our run offense was far ahead of the pass game for multiple years and featured these highlights:

- We closed a season running wildcat because all our QBs were hurt

- We won multiple games by shutting down the offense and only running the ball in the second half

- The biggest complaint about our first CFP loss was that we didn’t stick with the run

- We had 4 OL and 5 RBs drafted (that I can remember off the top of my head)

I don’t have the time or desire to go into individual game box scores, player accolades, or coach advancements, but it’s just not true that Sark/Flood are incapable of putting together a good run offense that performs against good teams. It is true, however, that Sark’s tenure is now long enough that people are forgetting what actually happened along the way

We can overlook them if we beat them. It will be in part because they weren't that good to begin with. How do we know if a team is actually good? We lose to them. It's perfectly good circular reasoning. Some of you just don't get it, because you don't get logic.

BO&W woke up today and he chose stupid. Just a fucking frozen rope of stupid being slapped all over the board.

Will Johnson played against Texas. How and what he did otherwise is totally irrelevant. Michigan did not field a “bad defense “ against Texas last year, either, you fucking dummy. Texas whipped Michigan’s ass because Sarkisian had a great gameplan and he had the offense do what they wanted against an uber talented defense because, you know, he’s been regarded as an offensive scheming wizard due to performances like that.

Your stupid is so loud, my watch is giving me decibel warnings.
