Yall clowns still talking about playoffs need to let that shit go.  This team isn’t making the class 6a highschool playoffs  an entire new offensive line and leadership isn’t walking through the door tonight

I think bowl eligibility is a more appropriate goal.

Sack up, man.  We are going to beat aggy.  They aren't as good as their record indicates.  They have a sieve of a defense.  They were lucky to beat ND.  All their other games were home games except Pig, which is weak this season.

I give them credit for being better than they were last season, but they aren't the third best team in college football.  Not even close.

I had it at 50/50 because we are just so bad on offense but they will be favored.  I agree they aren't the #3 team in the country.  The D is meh and hopefully catches up with them on the road.

To clarify, our offense plays like they all met each other fifteen minutes before the game, they hate each other, they were all given different playbooks, and someone drugged the QB.

I fucking laughed.

Ugh. I have to go to Starksville. I said I wanted to see all of the SEC venues, and now I regret it. Those fucking cowbells. It's only Tuesday and I hate my life already thinking about those yokels.

$50 says our seats are right next to this annoying motherfucker.

Sark does appear to have an advantageous schematic advantage over our rivals schools. Elko is married to those active defensive line concepts the same way Venables is. I remember thinking Quinn was going to stink it up in College Station because we hadn’t been running the ball well. The zone running game tore them up.

Defensive Game Plan for Vanderbilt

Play Jonah Williams and give him one assignment, seek and destroy Diego Pavia.
Make Jonah become Diego make him run the Vandy offense during game week preparations. Make him eat shitty New Mexican food all week, he will become so enraged and more than likely he will become deranged that we will probably need a Psychiatrist to bring him back, but it would be so worth it. I remember COPS from back in the day were always in Albuquerque.

I hope Mississippi State doesn't do anything on defense that Texas isn't expecting, like Sark said Kentucky did, because that's not fair.

Perhaps lawyers for Texas can send Miss. State admin a letter before the game warning them of legal repercussions if they try any of that shit.

Also, Texas should alert Greg Sankey's office.

Sark-Outfit2.jpg

This is 100% on brand and drives me crazy every time I hear it. Sark is broadcasting he struggles to make adjustments and cannot live up to his reputation as an offensive savant.

Apparently when you call for the DL to slant hard one way or the other, it allows for the blockers in a zone scheme to create openings for the backs.

That’s all I got

Below article written by our Fave Bob Davie

https://www.espn.com/ncf/columns/davie/1440703.html

Zone blocking first started to take place back when teams ran an old slant and angle defense. They would line head-up on an offensive lineman then slant the defense one way or another. It is easy to show this problem in man blocking and the best way to illustrate it is to show the defensive end pinching inside. If you are in man blocking and the tackle is assigned to the defensive end, he not only misses the defensive end pinching, but the DE knocks off the guard and keeps him from going to the linebacker

By the way, Sark continues to be one of only a few OC's that usually does not cover his mouth while calling the play. Sometimes he does, but then it looks like he forgets. He really didn't cover up against Kentucky. Can teams discern the call? After seeing the special on the Michigan cheating scandel, it wouldn't suprise me one bit. They were reading lips and conveying it to the defense for call adjustments, all within 3 seconds.

edit: whoops. He didn't cover up.

Burnt Vegetables is known for it and the Stoops shitheads were undoubtedly cheating at OU…

so I expect they had the calls.

8-4 is the ceiling at this point. Find a way to scrape together wins against Miss St and Arkansas. Both will be painfully close. Zero chance of beating Georgia, and pretty close to zero chance of beating A&M and Vandy.

We have a better chance of losing to vandy, a&m, and UGA but I have a 10% chance of hope we may be able to win one because sark actually has to gamelan and force to make adjustment in game quicker than with bad teams.

It’s almost as if he sees bad teams (UF, Kentucky) as scrimmages and goes back to doing what he wants, which this offense is not made for and tougher games he may actually scheme for.

I do think the dam breaks if there is one more loss and it's not aggy at the end of the season.

This team won't mentally recover from a loss to MS State, Vandy or Arkansas and if one of the first 2 is dropped I think they drop the rest. Sark has built a momentum based team that has no tailwind and can't get off all 4s in the mud. There is no goal except SEC CG and Playoff Berth. If both of those evaporate on the next loss (spoiler: they will) then I think they don't have anything to fall back on and become more lost and lose faith in the staff.

Sark and the staff have made a public and likely a private compact that these guys are going to be put in a position to be in the playoffs and compete for championships. If that doesn't happen and it's not because they just got beat (literally beat as in physically couldn't compete) it's pretty easy for this to get ugly fast on coaching.

I was going to say Georgia is near the bottom of the SEC in havoc rate. Then I saw Kentucky is still at the bottom even after the Texas game.

Huh? They're extremely weaker on defense this year than last.

Not to say Texas will take advantage...but not any more scared of them than OU or Kentucky at this point.

Most of Georgia’s sack production last year came from games against us

I definitely think he does this.  We just need to survive this road game against Miss St.  Then, we get a few games at home with the crowd to amp us up.

Fair but what I'm saying is their DL isn't some dominant force compared to OU/Kentucky.  As I clearly said that doesn't mean texas won't struggle with them.

And it’ll likely happen again (albeit, to a lesser extent). Kirby schemes against Sark well, and I have no doubt he’ll do so again. Sark runs what he runs and it’s why top defensive-minded coaches have done well against him at Texas.

They’re faster this year on the front imo and we struggle vs athletic fronts. OU has a good front but I wouldn’t say they’re fast or super athletic.

News broke yesterday that safety Michael Taaffe had surgery on Monday on his thumb. The injury and procedure are likely to keep Taaffe out this week and possibly next, with the potential of a return for the Georgia game, according to CJ Vogel.

Of course, we won’t know the plans for sure until we receive Steve Sarkisian’s injury report later this afternoon.

We expect experience veteran Derrick Williams to start in place of Taaffe.

But the position all of a sudden looks somewhat thin. After all, not only is Taaffe expected to be out but key back-up Xavier Filsaime has missed the last two weeks with an injury.

That means Jordon Johnson-Rubell and potentially true freshman Jonah Williams could be next up.

This is not the best week to have issues at safety, not when Mississippi State has two true speedsters in Brennan Thompson and Anthony Evans on the outside and an offense that hunts the big pass downfield.

**

In perhaps better news, CJ Baxter is practicing more and more.

I don’t know what or how Sark will list him on the injury report later today. But he is definitely inching back to seeing playing time.

His return could not come soon enough as the Horns have had no running game to speak of between the tackles.

The poor health of Baxter combined with the lack of development and/or talent of Jerrick Gibson has virtually taken away the inside run game that Sark likes to utilize to open up passing lanes.

**

The Texas OL is approaching historic levels of ineptitude. They rank in the 120s nationally in pass protection.

Mississippi State only has 10 sacks on the season. That would seem to bode well for a Texas OL that has had major issues protecting the quarterback.

But we have to remember, the Kentucky defense only had five sacks on the season entering the contest with the Horns. They proceeded to get three in one game alone.

If Texas wants to have any chance against Mississippi State, the OL must play better.

Connor Robertson hopefully will have a big step up this week after playing his first full game as a starter against the Wildcats.

We have to remember, with Robertson at center, only one OL, DJ Campbell, was a starter prior to this season.

The OL is young. And their youth is undoubtedly showing.

**

State head coach Jeff Lebby loves to play bend-but-don’t-break defenses.

And that’s exactly what Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski seems to specialize in.

The matchup will be strength on strength IMO. I’ll be surprised if PK doesn’t have a wrinkle or two for Lebby and vice versa.

**

Mississippi State has 10 interceptions on the season.

Yet a key piece of the last two Longhorns’ victories has been Arch Manning and cast taking care of the football even in the face of the offensive struggles.

Something’s gotta give in Starkville. Let’s hope it’s not the Horns.

**

If Texas can shore up the offensive line and if Sark stays true to his word about altering some things schematically, I think Texas has the defense and special teams to win this game, even though it’s on the road.

I’m expecting more points in this game.

Texas 27 - Mississippi State 24

Sarkisian: Changes Are Coming to Texas Offense

Another day, another mention of the Texas offense and its struggles so far in 2025.

The hot and cold nature of this unit has no doubt been frustrating, and following the Kentucky game last Saturday, there has not been a louder conversation regarding Sark and his abilities as a play caller since his arrival in Austin.

Even with a W in the pocket of the Longhorns on the flight back to Austin, the Texas offense returned with only 178 yards of total offense and one of the more dismal performances in recent Texas memory. However, when the team boards the plane for their trip out to Starkville this weekend, they will be packing adjustments, new schematic ideas and a changes for what should be a more fruitful offensive approach.

"As a staff, you have to have the real conversation of, 'What do we do to help our players be successful?'" Sarkisian told reporters on Monday during his weekly press conference. "And, it is not about what I know, or what looks good on the whiteboard when you draw it up in there, it is about what are our guys going to execute really well predicated on what the defense is playing."

Given the remaining opponents on the Texas schedule, there are some high-scoring teams remaining that Texas will need to go toe-to-toe with to have a chance.

This weekend is no different. Mississippi State currently averages 39.8 points per game at home this season, which ranks in the top 30 nationally. So changes are needed, and according to Sarkisian, changes are coming.

"Without divulging what we are going to do game plan wise, I do think you will see some adjustments this week to what we do," Sarkisian said. "But at the end of the day, we have to make sure we are playing complementary football with our defense."

Sarkisian says the shift to play more complementary football came about three weeks ago.

"We are playing really good defense. We are playing really good on special teams. Let's make sure we are playing a complementary brand of football to continue to enhance the way we are playing in those two phases, and to play in style in which we are protecting the ball, we are going to play a field position game."

Last Saturday was the 3rd shortest time of possession a Texas offense has owned the football dating back to 2010. With only 20:37 of time of possession, that desire for complementary football fell completely flat.

Additionally, Sarkisian was asked if the playbook would shrink given the struggles of the offense. He said it could happen to ensure more practice reps on what would be repped in the games itself.

Texas currently sits 80th in the country in points per game. The worst mark in the Steve Sarkisian era.

There are things in the works right now for Texas to show looks, personnel groupings and formations that have previously not been deployed in 2025. Obviously, I will not reveal what those might be, however, the staff is brainstorming ways to right the ship.

Pavia needs a spy and DL must play contain all game. If we can take his legs away, I don’t think he’s good enough to beat our defense from the pocket

Contain up front and man coverage on the back-end? Sounds good!
