That guy was not ass vs Texas. I watched that game and gained a lot of respect for that kid. He got the living shit beat out of him and had 0 WRs to work with in that game. Not saying he is a 1st round QB, but I dont get the "was ass my dude" comment based on the conditions he was forced to play in.

24/46 for 222 yards and a pick is ASS.  Those are all excuses you're making for him at the end of the day.  Injuries are part of the game.  Skattebo carried them and accounted for 3 TD's.

Love all of this except Sayin is a pretty mobile dude from what I understand. I think he is more likely to spook himself out of the pocket than to sit back and be cannon fodder for our edges.

That's not correct. He's not known for being mobile. "Statue" was hyperbole for entertainment purposes, but if that guy is having to move much at all, they're in trouble.

he was a major reason ASU was in the game. HE made multiple plays on 3rd down to keep the defense on the field, while the Texas offense was sputtering. The prism you judge opposing QBs is not close to the one you use to judge Texas Qbs.

Even if he was, they don't want the little fellow running in the open against us.

Accounted for 0 TD’s.  You’re absolutely daft.  Go back and rewatch the game.  I have in the past 10 days.  None of what you posted is true.  You’re so wrong it's actually hilarious.

I'm not guaranteeing a win. I'm merely pointing out the absurdity of the claims being made about all of these suddenly conjured OSU "advantages". They have one clear advantage - they possess the best WR room in the country. Never mind the fact that Texas held JJ Smith to 3 yards and 1 catch 8 months ago, I acknowledge freely that the OSU WR room is awesome. Outside of that, these are 2 of the 3 best rosters in college football 2025. Anyone claiming a bunch of OSU advantages otherwise is attempting to read the future in tea leaves.

"New guy" meant new starter. I figured that was kind of obvious. Guilbeau has been at Texas for 3 seasons. He won't be new to the field either.

Peoples looks fine. You're comparing him to a room with multiple players ranked higher than him out of high school or with better numbers and experience than him in college, and Baxter has him in both regards, and then saying "gee, I think we might have a better RB room". That's objectively comical.

Fair on the new guy comment, understood.  Only pointing out reasons why I like the OSU secondary beyond just Downs.  Re: RB, if Baxter is full go I would pick TX at the position for sure - he was excellent before the injury but as far as I understand you are not expecting him to be at that level again yet.  Wisner is a good back, I like him.  He and Donaldson seem comparable - almost the same YPC, Wisner with more yards on more carries, Donaldson with 2X the TDs.  Call it wash, perhaps - the units don't suit up against each other anyway and TX probably has the advantage in the defensive front 7, which will have a greater impact on the running game.

He has a 67.6 PFF grade in that game. That is pretty solid given what he faced. Put that in context Quinn had a 42.9 vs Ohio State. Not worth continuing this as it is not pertinent to this thread.

You're not going to gaslight a board of fanatics who have studied your team for 9 months and actively monitored your forums and read all of your insider updates as if they were our own.

-You do not have 4 returning OL starters. Starting a few games in the playoffs or post-injury is not what classifies a player as a returning starter. If that were the case, Texas also has 4 returning OL starters because Hutson has started like 14 games in his career, Goosby started 2-3 late last year and Robertson started a game or two back in 2022 or 2023.

-TE is debatable. You guys love your guys and Klare is a stud. Texas loves Endries and its other guys as well. Both programs have highly ranked guys in the TE room and both starters put up great numbers for mediocre to shitty teams last year. You guys seem to want to clearly demarcate an advantage there and it's bullshit.

-Downs =/= an entire secondary. You don't even know who is actually going to start at the other safety spot yet. Igbinonigniminious is a penalty machine. He was burnt more than bad toast last season and forced into PI and holding penalties against anyone of value. The other CB position will feature a new guy. Texas also returns an AA at Safety. Texas also returns two other starters at Safety/NB and a better returning starter at CB in Muhammad than what OSU has in Igbo. Texas is in the same position of putting a new, highly recruited starter at CB, whoever wins the job.

-Texas evaluated Peoples and passed. We were fine as recruitniks watching you guys take him out of state. Donaldson has taken more bullets than a gun range dummy and Bo Jackson is actively in the process of passing him on the depth chart. Texas has 5 guys it can rotate at RB, one of whom is a returning 1,000 yard rusher and two others who were classified as the highest rated RB in the country coming out of high school. So, no, Ohio State doesn't have some sort of RB advantage.

-You and everyone else talking about Manning being advantaged over Sayin simply because he's taken more snaps are whistling past the notion that Manning might also just be a lot fucking better than your 5'11' statue with a nice hairdo.

-None of this matters as much as the disadvantage your OL will actually have on the field against the Texas front 7. That imbalance doesn't shake out in the other direction. Good luck keeping your QB upright on Saturday.

[Jeff Goldblum] Well, there it is. [/Jeff Goldblum]

We are going to kick their asses up and down the field.

Clearly, the Bucknuts are feeling their oats after the NC. Can't blame them too much for that, I suppose. I'm sure their minds have a tough time processing the possibility of losing their first game after winning the title, especially at home and to one of the teams they beat along the way.

I look forward to delivering a slap of reality.

It is wild reading those mouth-breathers' boards. Every position is a position of strength and possibly the best ever. Every inexperienced incoming player is better than the outgoing All American who was taken in the top half of the NFL draft. Manning is a first year QB and will look like one, spending the whole afternoon on his back and rattled by the Legend, Matt Patricia's, exotic schemes. The Ohio State laundering staff won't even have to wash Sayin's jersey come Saturday night. He'll just hand it off all day to their elite RBs who will gouge Texas' Downy-soft defensive line. Already better than Manning, the veteran Buckeye signal-caller is sure to complete most of his passes, but might skillfully throw one or two away like a veteran Drew Brees or Tom Brady. Their backs will run for 15 yards on 2nd and 10 anyway. Dumb motherfuckers.

with any luck, they've got the grail already

I’d image we had similar feels after the 2005 championship, only to be humbled in Colt’s first start in 2006. It happens. We did it to Michigan last year, so it’s not this team is pissing their pants and crying about going on the road to the defending champ. We just did it

sanity check: the pocket dimension erected by jort nation this week has yet to explain the michigan game or their performance against us in the semi and how either of those games is a forecast for jort victory on saturday

against michigan, AT THE SHOE, howard managed a qb rating of 57 going 19 for 33 for 175, 1 td, 2 picks

the amazing tosu offensive line that's returning 'starters' and is 'clearly' a tosu advantage, managed to pave the way for a running game that managed 77 yards on 26 carries at 3.0 ypc

they put up TEN POINTS on a cold sunny afternoon with 10mph wind AT HOME

then they got in a fight after the game - classy

against us in the semi howard clearly did much better: a rating of 97 on 24 for 33 for 289, 1 td, 1 pick

but again, this amazing 'returning' offensive line managed to road-grade the Horns for an all-galaxy production of 81 yards on 24 carries at 3.4 ypc

take away the henderson 75-yard fluke screen and 24 for 32 for 209 and 1 pick produces a howard rating of 80

Howard was a beast throughout the CFP by pretty much any reasonable estimation, IMO.  I can't really blame him for the Michigan game because he just got sucked into the same voodoo vortex that inexplicably swallowed the whole team that day.  That entire game was a starkly clear carbon copy of Cooper's home loss to M in 1996 (which cost him the national title), where a badass offense led by Joe Germaine scored 9 points and blew an undefeated season to a 4-loss skunkweasel outfit (only to follow it up with a Rose Bowl win that kept ASU from the national championship).

Probably happened because in the preshow meeting they went down defensive position groups and picked Texas in all of them. They did mention Fornelli was going to let them have it for not breaking defense down by position.

I think this is exactly what happened. It's not just that Texas is better at all position groups, I think every one of our starters is better than theirs, save for Caleb Downs.

I’m told that if it’s left up to Goosby, he’s going to play Saturday. But such things are decided by coaches and trainers, not the athletes.

As we’ve been reporting since late last week, we believe he’s going to play Saturday. But there remain no guarantees in that regard.

Hopefully, Goosby gets the go ahead.

Bobby still hedging on Goosby is not what I was hoping to hear. At this point I do not expect him to play and will hope to be happily surprised.

For OSU, 4/5 OL positions are returning starters.  Talent/experience-wise, I would take OSU at OL, WR (easily), TE, defensive secondary.  Perhaps at RB depending on TX health status.  I think talent and experience are more or less a wash overall between the two teams.  As stated in my initial post, I'd give TX with a slight advantage at QB because of Manning's game experience, and a bigger advantage on the sideline because OSU is breaking in new coordinators.  If forced to predict I'd say TX wins 28-24 but one play could break the game in either direction.

I appreciate you sticking your neck out in this thread and the conversation that you're generating. Good faith participation from opponents is great for the Board. That being said, the only clear advantage that OSU has on either side of the ball is WR. And Jeremiah Smith is an absolute freak and y'alls WR room deserves all the credit its getting. But OL is a push at best, TE is a push or only a slight advantage to OSU, our RB room is better even if by only a modest margin, and our QB is demonstrably more physically talented and experienced. Even if Sayin has a 5-star arm, he doesn't have Arch's legs or build and he has thrown what? 6 passes in live play? And that's even before we get to the defense, where I think we are better across the board save that one dude at safety. Day is a great coach and Hartline may be the best WR coach in CFB history, but otherwise I don't think y'all have any other advantages on us in terms of staff.

OSU is a great program and I'm not saying this is a slam dunk for Texas. There are a lot of unknowns on both sides. But I am prone to pessimism and dooming, and even I like Texas' chances this weekend.

I don't think Donaldson and Wisner are really comparable.  Donaldson is a big dude.  Wisner is way smaller.

What Baxter gives us that the rest of our backs don't is the ability to change directions and break tackles.  Wisner has had to grow into his role, but he answered the call last year in a big way.  He and Blue stepped up bigtime last year.  I imagine the entire room should perform better now that defenses will have to account for the QB in the run game.

Aye, I agree on the difference between the RBs and meant they are comparable in terms of production.  I think OSU plans to use its duo at RB much like we did last year, with complementary styles to help fill situational roles and keep guys fresh.  FWIW you make a good point on the running QB - I think part of what helped OSU's running game last year was Howard's ability to run, which had been missing from that position during the Stroud/McCord days.  Manning will bring a lot to the table in that respect.

not much to it. I was told by a former player (WR) that Strong's staff was a mess. He told the story one day in the middle of practice Watson was running the offense and got into an argument with Koenning. Before you know it coaches and players had to hold Les back from kicking Watson's ass. Apparently Koenning did not like Watson and this was brewing for awhile

I don't really take much exception to your points here.  Perhaps to simplify, I'd say OSU with a clear advantage at WR, while TX has it at QB and DL.  The other positions kinda fall into the "well we like our guys and you like yours so let's just suit em up" category.  It's close enough IMO that the natural breaks inherent to the game, and how each team responds, probably decide the outcome.  With its coaching consistency I think TX should be a slight favorite going in, since the bevy of unknowns is otherwise pretty much equally weighted on both sides.

I actually think OSU has a better TE room. Probably a slight edge at the starting position. OSU has a better mix. They have some solid back-ups that can block well. Texas depth is a complete mystery. I like the room and the talent level, but its pretty young. Blocking is going to be a major question mark

I'd agree with that, but the gap is not significant.  I also think Sark is better at using TEs than pretty much any coach in the country. He would scheme Sanders and Helm wide ass open the last three years.  So we will see.

You're not the first person I've seen make a similar claim, but Wisner was listed at 200 lbs on the 2024 roster and currently at 194 lbs on the 2025 roster. Of course, the roster figures have been known to be less than trustworthy before.

Regardless, I expect that Wisner is stronger, his body more mature and his composition better distributed being another year in the system. He is a motivated player, and barring an unlikely rash of injuries, won't need to carry the bulk of the load this season. Frankly, I'm just as excited at the prospect of seeing Clark on the field as Baxter. And while it's not likely we'll see Simon in game 1, I'm optimistic he will be fun to watch assuming he can hold on to the football and protect his QB when called on to do so.

100% on this. Clark could be the X factor in this season, if the practice reports are accurate. On the macro level, just having 3 RBs the staff trust will improve the room from 2024.

I think you touched on what should make Wisner better on a per play basis.  Last year he had to shoulder to much of the load.  He was worn down by the end of the season.  I love Wisner.  I think he is just a football player.  I bet he averages closer to 5.5 per carry this season.  And does more in the passing game.

Hmm - sorry about that, seems fine to me so hopefully it works for others.  If not, it's an easy find on the 11W front page.

A timely breakdown from 11Warriors on the position group comparisons, down the lines of today's discussions.  Curious to see what y'all think (knowing this was compiled by OSU-focused writers):

Seems fine for the most part. I would expect them to lean OSU for toss ups and they rightly point out several position groups that are toss ups. The only place I would really push back is at CB, but then I'm a Texas homer so I would.

It jumps straight to the comments due to the #comments at the end of the link.

We'll try to send you back to Austin with enough players left alive to field a starting 22 against SJSU

Pretty much what I expected to see when I clicked on the link.

Personally I think the game will come down to qb play. No one on the planet would take Sayin over Manning if they had the straight up choice. But you never know until you see it on the field. So let’s see what happens Saturday.
