Cruz vs Beto

Washpark

Recommended Posts

Interesting. I’m up in Dallas today and seeing a lot of Beto signs in the Park Cities.

I’ve seen zero Cruz signs.

I saw one there other day and I noted that it was the first (and only) I’d seen.

Ordered a new one yesterday for my yard as the storms this week turned the original into a soggy lump. Went ahead and ordered one for the ‘rents as well as they’re onboard and in a rural area where it is probably more effective.

It’s always been ok to be a Democrat in Austin and certain parts of the other Texas cities. But, in many suburbs and smaller towns, you couldn’t admit voting for a Democrat without being a social outcast. It’s prevented any real organization, fundraising, or even campaigning in those areas. Until Beto. This is the first time that we see people in these dark red areas openly putting signs in yards. Is it a fad or the beginning of the end for solid republican rule? Time will tell I guess.

It all depends if the Dems can field decent candidates.  Need more Betos and MJ Hegars, less Wendy Davises and Lupe Valdez.

My parents live in Decatur and they might be the only Democrats in Wise county.

I'm curious if the polling for Beto will skew the same way that it did for Trump - are there people who Beto has "reached" in the small towns who won't speak up about voting for Beto but will?  I doubt it's quite that, but I'll be let down if it is just a standard republican landslide.

There were some "Texas Freedom Front" or some such NRA hat wearing visibly anti people there yesterday.  I have a lot of respect for Beto, he took two questions from them (actually above when he's responding in spanish, it was from a question from that group posed to him in Spanish) and answered another about gun rights/gun control (obviously pro tighter gun controls, says he doesn't want to take away anyone's assault rifle if they have it and are using it responsibly etc).  Some people shouted at them (one of the dudes going on about protecting American children) and Beto told them to quiet down and be respectful.  The dude with the flag (not pictured) went up and shook his hand afterwards.

Of course there was a guy in strap sandals and tube socks with a "my rights don't end where your feelings begin" open carrying with two mags on his belt.

Before any more concerned slippery slope types chimes in, I just want to remind y'all that there is no one single agreed upon ~official~ acronym for the queer people of the world, and there's plenty of debate about whether or not asexual should be included in queer identities, for a number of reasons (get back to me when legislatures try to curtail your right to exist as a person without sexual attraction, aces).

Wait. Are people under the impression that there would be no more rich people if we embraced more socialist programs in this country?

No more rich people? Naw, just a bloated government. Anyway, hopefully Cruz pulls this thing out.

My two signs and t-shirt were on the doorstep when I got home yesterday after being gone for a week. I'll start volunteering at the end of August.

Not this Republican.

On this board, you are what you post, and fewer than a handful of Republicans have consistently spoken out against the Trump administration's bloated spending and spending proposals.   You aren't one of them.

I’m not quite sure that you require my posting history to ascertain my position. I stated rather unequivocally, in the post that you quoted, that I disliked a bloated government.

"I dislike fire," said the poster who supports the "Burn baby, burn" party.

I dislike bloated government, too.  Thus, I think it's important to punish the party that has spent the better part of 50 years lying about being against bloated government.  Because to do otherwise is to reward lies.  And all that does is get you more lies, and the lying liars who tell such lies.  But, you know, keep fucking that chicken. I'm sure that TOMORROW is the day they're going to decide "man, we probably need to change our ways."

Stating a supposed position and demonstrating that it is really your position are two different things.

That would be cool. I got signed up on my way into ACL one year. You guys should work at an event like that or maybe several.

You view it as punishing the party, I simply view it as cutting off my nose to spite my face. As much as I dislike the spending, there are other aspects of the Republican Party that align with my personal beliefs.

I stated my position, whether you view that as properly demonstrated means very little to me.

Lolz. What are these things? Since they are more important to you than fiscal and economic policy, they are worth listing.

There is no way you’re American. You talk way too rigid and properly, especially considering you’re posing as a trump supporter. Tell your boss you should not be given a raise in my opinion for those reasons.

Well, I never said they were more important, that’s a misrepresentation on your part. I prefer strict border enforcement, a party friendly to the 2nd amendment, and I’m ecstatic that the SC is trending conservative.

That's fine.   Likewise, the meaning of my post was that your supposed position means very little to most of us.

No, they are more important to you, otherwise you wouldn’t vote for incumbents who are structurally expanding the debt and the deficit because of these other things. That’s what “more important” means.

You put the vague ideological orientation of future hypothetical rulings about unknown conjectural topics ahead of known real life spending and inflationary policy, and whatever you imagine “strict border enforcement” to mean ahead of the debt.

That’s what is important to you, do t lie to yourself.

I’m not posing as a Trump supporter, I’m merely explaining my conservative views. I find the hostility to said views amusing, albeit confusing.

You aren’t posing, you’re the real thing in the only way that matters: you voted for him and will vote for the people who enable his actions. Basically to get better odds on unknown future prop bets and the occasional embarrassing foray into kidnapping, despite the negative impact on our economic future.

I used to play that game   Tell myself that I’m not that kind of Republican   Then I would turn around and help send exactly that kind of Republican to Austin or Washington.

The GOP has embraced big, intrusive, and bloated government at state and national.  Arguably, it’s one of the largest parts of the GOP’s identity these days.

If you truly don’t support that, then I expect you will be voting against Cruz, Danica Patrick, etc. come November.

Otherwise, you are a part of the problem and you don’t get to pretend that you’re not that kind of Republican.

You’re placing my beliefs in an imaginary hierarchical structure that has been completely fabricated inside your head. Asking me to elucidate my reasoning for voting Republican was the extent of the exercise, I believe. Your difficultly digesting the answers doesn’t require my participation.
