Went there on my trip to the Kentucky football game this year.  Cool museum but I'm not sure I'd let anyone know I was working with Nick Allen.

47 days until pitchers and catchers report

He was one of the 15 best prospects in the draft imho.  Elite bat speed and power and doesn’t have a launch angle problem or a plate discipline issue.  He will also have defensive value.  It’ll boil down to his swing and miss against elite pitching but he could be a star.

Just for clarity sake, do the Astros now care about swing and miss tendencies?

Honestly? I don’t think so. I think it’s best player/ceiling available with Dana, we just happened to pick high enough this year that that dude didn’t have awful swing and miss to him.

What do we know about Kevin Alvarez, 17-year old had a pretty big DOSL debut with a .301/.419/.455 triple slash, with more BBs than Ks.

Scouting reports are glowing. I’ve read nothing but praise for his swing, hit tool, bat speed, power potential, IQ, work ethic, and overall character. In the few videos I’ve seen of him his swing is pretty. He probably has the highest offensive potential of any prospect in Houston’s system. The DSL stat line shows he is ready for stateside ball. We won’t really know much until he gets into full season ball. He could end up Yordan’s size or bigger and he already is not a fast runner so he will almost certainly be limited to a corner in the OF but as long as he doesn’t develop chronic injury concerns he should be able to play the field.

I’m really hoping they bring him over this spring and that he gets a taste of Fayetteville sometime in 2026.

I was reading Tucker comparisons, and we gave him like $2M , right? Tucker or Alvarez comparisons are pretty good. I did see he was 11/16 in SBs so he has a little more speed than Alvarez.

Fuck the speed question. did he ever consume calcium during his development years or does he basically have mush for bones like Alvarez?

Paredes showing out in the Winter League could make him attractive to the teams that lose out on Donovan and Bregman

Why though? This team can win this year. I know there is a logjam in the infield but with our injury history and Joes history of rotating the lineup every other day, I think there is more value with him on the Astros this year than what we could get in return. Unless someone gets desperate and offers us a top 50-75 prospect in the mlb, but I don’t see that happening.

Yeah Isaac needs to stay put in Houston.

He shows too much patience at the plate and doesn’t strike out enough. Do not want.

This is Astros beisbol in the 2026, where we embrace contact in RBI situations instead of striking out or rolling over into a double play while trying to pull a ball 5 inches outside.

With our training staff, I’m celebrating the fact that he still has both legs.

the younger guys need to follow hunter's lead here. it'll be a new locker room / mentality ....

Seems lower than what he was expected to get, but higher AAV. The standard Boras client who doesn't get what he wants opt-outs as well.

So, essentially a one year deal for $21M for the Astros. Not bad, need to trade Meyers and/or Sanchez to get back under the LT.

Fuck that, time for Crane to go full Cody Campbell if the Astros are going to go 173-0 this year.

What’s the scouting report on Imai?

Cy Young is a lock, 300+ strike outs, first time he faces Judge he dots him square between the eyes, and then goes Nolan Ryan versus Robin Ventura on the first Yankee who crosses the foul line (Now that I think about it, what the fuck was guy named ROBIN even thinking we he charged Nolan.)

Full off-season the Astros strike back mode after Frogs and Horn won their bowl games and THE ohio state went down.

Didn't think we had any chance with Imai. But I should have known better. With what he said about the Dodgers, this is pretty much destiny.

https://www.mlb.com/news/tatsuya-imai-wants-to-take-down-los-angeles-dodgers

Speaking with Daisuke Matsuzaka on the show, "Hodo Station," Imai revealed a bit of a competitive edge. "Of course, I’d enjoy playing alongside Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Sasaki," Imai told the former Major League pitcher and two-time World Baseball Classic champion, "but winning against a team like that and becoming a world champion would be the most valuable thing in my life. If anything, I'd rather take them down."

Nice signing, I didn't know the Astros were in the hunt for him. I would rather take a chance on a 1 year deal with someone like him (and maybe sign him for more later), than giving Framber 7 for 200m or whatever he's looking for.

Here's an in-depth article reviewing Imai's abilities an comparing him to other MLB pitchers: https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-comparisons-for-tatsuya-imai

Love it, this was the #1 free agent signing I was hoping for. We need to add talent that doesn’t involve taking a hit elsewhere, either on the roster or in prospects.

Astros rotations options for this year:

Hunter Brown

Tatsuya Imai

Cristian Javier

Spencer Arrighetti

Lance McCullers Jr.

Mike Burrows

Jason Alexander

J.P. France

Nate Pearson

Ryan Weiss

AJ Blubaugh

Colton Gordon

Ronel Blanco (July/August)

Hayden Wesneski (July/August)

Oooo GIF

Getting a number two without having to trade anyone for it is huge.

What about Matthews, Cole, and Arrighetti, blubaugh or Ullola for Brendan Donovan? That team wouldn’t have any jokes at all 1-9 in the lineup. Except maybe Meyers in CF but he should be average to a little bad. Which is fine for a defense first CF hitting 9th.

If we throw JP France above Ullola I will commit a homicide.

I would think Imani just signed for Verlander’s money…
