Beat A&M. Nothing else matters.

Look let's be honest. We're not that good of a team and that's the bottom line. If we somehow slipped in it would be bullshit and we all would know it.

If we somehow miraculously get in, it'd be because TV and advertisers love them some Longhorns ratings.

Just like Notre Dame

Yes, just beat A&M.

Look at the CFP contenders barely in or on the bubble and tell me we’re definitely worse than them. It’s not true. Some of them we’ve beaten head to head.

The committee operates differently than the AP. They don't flip flop teams weekly after wins. If a team in front of you wins out you're not jumping them. Texas needs other teams to lose at this point

Not sure about that. We are on a 1 year sample size right now. While I think Texas has a low shot of getting in, I wouldnt use past precedent as an argument.

Yeah if we wanted any shot, they needed to have us ahead of more than just two 2 loss teams (Michigan and UVA) after last week, not behind seven 2 loss teams.

we’ll jump now 2 loss Ga Tech and now 3 loss USC this week, but would have been nice to have been right behind vandy last week instead of on Tuesday. And for Utah to have been a spot or two lower last week.

I dont think Utah is gonna be a factor here. So ignore them. BYU on 2 losses against Tech is gonna be the cock block for us. It's either that or we need two of Bama/Vandy/OU to lose.

does anyone have a better strength of schedule as Texas? Playing 5 top 10 teams at the time of their ranking.

  • 3 Ohio St
  • 6 OU
  • 9 Vandy
  • 5 Georgia
  • 3 Aggy

my guess is what is going to happen is if you can limit to 2 losses you have a very good chance if you are an SEC team.  realistically you are playing for 10 spots, and given the unbalanced schedules with superconferences, anymore than 2 you are basically out.

Exactly why playing a team like Ohio State in the preseason is playoff suicide. We need to cancel the game for next year. We would be in with a win without that garbage on the schedule.

So, we’d essentially be getting the kind of preferential treatment that Notre Dame gets on an annual basis and no one bats an eye at?

We've got 11 years of a sample size. Outside of a couple playoff seeding changes they have only dropped 2014 TCU and 2023 FSU that i could find. Both of those are outliers with the first being the first playoff and the second FSU losing their qb.

Yeah. Tennessee over Vandy in Knoxville is very doable.

LSU win at OU Sat afternoon would be nearly on par with 2001 OK State over ou (also a 2:30 kickoff the Saturday afternoon after T-Day in Norman) that back doored us in to the Big 12 CCG that year.

sucks that it takes us having the same record as two teams we beat before we can jump them but here we are

Wouldn't OSU have to agree to that also? Would we have to buy them out if they say no?

Also, don't think that the athletic department wants to jettison a top matchup in front a sold out DKR, on national television, with Gameday also in Austin a very likely possibility too.

Yep, especially considering, everyone in the entire NCAA except MAYBE UGA wouldve lost the road opener to OSU. So we are getting all the negative and none of the benefit of scheduling them. Shouldve scheduled Texas State. Hopefully a lesson learned.

We wont but we need to stop scheduling these. It will cost us a spot this year. It could cost us a spot in the future.

BUT if the rumored changes to the playoff structure occurs (big IF), then these matchups are okay again and then I would be for scheduling teams like OSU every single year in the preseason.

With all other wins the same.

At 9-2 with no tosu with the Florida loss and Georgia blowout we'd likely be at #14ish right now.

8-3 with closer loss to Georgia and we're #14ish right now.

9-2 with either the tosu or Georgia result reversed and we're #8ish.

The Ohio state game does more good than bad.

In 2023 at 11-1 without Alabama we're not in the playoffs. The committee would have taken the undefeated teams and left us out. They only snubbed fsu because Texas and Alabama played that game

You are high as a fucking kite if you believe that. You cant actually be that retarded. Texas with wins over top 10 Vandy and OU is ranked ahead of OU, so probably #8 right now. After we beat aggy, we would be hosting a playoff game.

No shit Sherlock. That has nothing to do with this year. Like absolutely 0.

I think ESPN really wanted Bama in the playoffs and they couldn't justify that if they left Texas out or even put them at #4.

I’m still on board here. If we Beat A&M, and chalk holds, we’ll have wins over 3 top 15 teams (Vandy, OU, A&M) with three losses on the road.

We’ll also have played tOSU closer than anyone else by a pretty wide margin (pending Michigan result).

If you look at resume, our 7 pt loss to the #1 team will end up carrying a lot of weight (again pending Michigan).

If Michigan wins against tOSU all bets are off.

0.0 chance we're still in the top 10.

Alabama is currently #10 with 2 losses to a 6-6 Florida state and Oklahoma loss. They won 4 straight against Georgia, vandy, Mizzou and Tennessee.

Their wins are better and their losses are way better. Theyre only "bad" win was south Carolina who are better than Kentucky and Mississippi state.

Lol okay dude. The bottom line is that Texas with wins over Vandy, OU, and Aggy are not missing the playoffs on 2 losses. If you think they wouldve, then you are an idiot and we dont need to continue this conversation.

No. But I don’t know how much you can hang your hat on what a team was ranked when you played them.

dumb argument to puff your chest over a win against a top 5 Clemson or Penn St from September, for example.

Us, Indiana, and Georgia are the only teams that have won 2 against current top 10.

We’re the only team that could end the regular season with 3 wins against the current top 10.

Only 6 teams have played at least 4 teams currently in the top 16. Us, South Carolina (5) Wisconsin (4), Auburn (4), Florida (4), LSU (4).

At this point there are 4 teams within the state of Texas (aggy, Tech, SMU, UNT) with better odds of making the playoffs than Texas.

Which is an indictment on the flaws of the playoff system (UNT, SMU) and unbalanced league scheduling (aggy). Tech deserves their chance to dance if they win the Big 12.

The season you're referencing was only a 4 team playoff. With a 12 team playoff, there's zero reason for us not to be in this year if we beat aggy. If this committee is going to let Notre Dame along with multiple Big 12 teams in the playoffs, we should also be in if we finish at 9-3. If that ends up not being the case, the game against OSU next year needs to be cancelled, along with all future marquee OOC games. The Big 12 in particular played absolutely no one OOC this year and will likely get rewarded for it.

2024 Alabama was 9-3 and the first team left out with similar wins to ours this year. They got close cause all they lost to a 10 win Tennessee that made the playoffs and to vandy and ou who made bowls barely. They also didnt struggle to beat bottom dwellers in their other games.

We should be in but losing to 3-9 Florida left us out not the defending camps who are blowing everybody out.

Losing to a bottom feeder in Florida will do us in. Inexcusable loss, just a god awful team.

I challenge anybody here to find a worse loss than this for a top 17 team this year.

we'd be at 8 at 9-2 with no tosu and pick a random mid level P4.
