"We went on the road to Ohio State in Week 1 and lost to them in a one-score game. We outgained them by nearly 200 yards, and no one else has been close to a one-score game against them. But I think more importantly, it's the message that what do we want to send to the head coaches and the athletic directors around the country? Do you want us not to schedule Ohio State? Because if we're a 10-2 team right now, this isn't a discussion. We're in the playoff. But we were willing to go up there and play that game."

"It would be a disservice to our sport".

when we are not included because room must be made for acc and g5 traffic cones, we have no one but ourselves to blame because ASSWATER

but we can do an even greater service to our sport

our seniors just walked off the field after defending the dkr (/mack)

they crushed the delusions of the vile vermin infestation that steals our money

at least half of our seniors will go to the combine and take a shot at the league

most of them with that goal will opt out of a game against arizona or washington

so let's do college football a REAL SERVICE

TL/DR:

DECLINE THE FUCKING BOWL GAME

we're one of the few that can get away with it without recriminations and it's high time to kill off this vestige of 20th century

this isn't amateur hour anymore - these student athletes are FISCAL ASSETS and are too valuable to risk in exhibition competition

stir the shitstorm

You planted your flag on Retard Hill and you're clearly willing to die on it.

I guess it's sort of admirable to see a guy stand on his convictions despite how fucking stupid they are.

Instead of declining the bowl game should we treat it like the exhibition game that it is?

Get the extra practices and play the 1st team a series or two and then move on to the backups?

Why should we take any risks related to next season for a meaningless game?

Beating up on a blueblood team in a cool location for players and fans is good for everybody

. The guys most likely get to go to Orlando and get bowl swag..

I don’t speak for Burnt Ends, but might be worth a shot to offer each player a trip to Disney and Swatch Watch in lieu of the $10k. Give the kids what they really want!

I don't know about the bowl game but we should absolutely cancel all serious OOC games immediately.

Yes. The ONLY thing that matters is W-L. Nothing else in the calculation.

OP is a loquacious dipshit.

This isn’t the first time. Won’t be the last.

over in wulaw's 9-3 thread there is a continuous call for 'not scheduling' 'these games' going forward

this morning, my new hot take is the bomc that needs to ramp up this week should include the following disinformation press release, planted by bellmont/cdc through 995ers:

"Texas is rumored to be considering the cancellation of the following games"

12 sep 26 - tosu in austin

11 sep 27 - michigan in austin

9 sep 28 - domer @ domer

22 sep 29 - domer in austin

11 sep 32 - asu in phoenix

10 sep 33 - asu in austin

90 minutes after the false flag, cdc tweets "Texas has taken no steps to cancel any of these games" and tweet the list

neither confirm nor deny

stir the shitstorm

@Surly Bevo rep for the use of the word 'loquacious'

If you want to address unequal SOS going forward, you bring it up with SEC and through them to ESPN, B10, etc for better clarity on SOS, win-loss record, etc. One easy change is to make it clear that the win-loss record is going to be weighed by the teams that one wins or loses against, i.e., a combination of SOS and the results weighed based on SOS. For example, playing #1 on the road and losing is -0.5 (winning is +1.75) whereas beating Samford is +0.1. Currently, everything is +1/-1, which is very silly, and every team would be incentivized to play Samfords of the world.

Getting things moving along this direction would provide clarity to everyone and offer compelling games to us.

Declining the bowl game would accomplish nothing but making the program look like whining pussies.

Even a shitty bowl game means extra practices for the young guys, and playing time for some who haven't seen the field much this year but will be in the two deep next season.

Don't lose to a horrible Florida team, especially with two weeks to prepare.  Inexcusable.
Same Florida team that just curb stomped FSU? Yes, the same FSU team that beat Bama yet they are going to the playoffs.

Oh, and Bama's other loss? BlowU

I get your argument and agree our loss is inexcusable, but the fact remains that if we hadn't scheduled the real #1 team to start the season that Florida loss wouldn't matter at all.

I don't see any way the committee can justify putting us in the playoffs, but at the same time they can no longer maintain that teams won't be punished for scheduling tough OOC games and not winning them.

So because of that we get a toilet bowl while watching two teams we beat head to head go to the playoffs.

What if we only accept the least prestigious possible bowl game, so we still get the practices. A way to symbolically schedule the cupcake we should have scheduled instead of Ohio State

Posted

Honestly, unless you have literally nothing else to do, are you really going to watch a glorified "practice" that means absolutely nothing?  Personally, I have better things to do than watch a game that has no benefits outside of recruiting possibilities.  This isn't the old days where bowl games meant something.  Quite frankly, I miss the old days of college football.  However, college football has morphed into nothing but a business and if you aren't in the playoffs, the season is over.  Now, If the team wants to play in a bowl game, I absolutely want them to enjoy it...they worked hard and earned that right.  I am absolutely not advocating to skip the game out of pettiness.  I'm just saying that I wouldn't care if they declined the invitation because I wouldn't watch it anyways.   For me, watching the fallout with the TV execs, SEC, and playoff committee would be more entertaining than the bowl game.  Just saying.

Yes. The alternative is… working or spending time with my family?
