I heard Texas just got a commitment from a new entry to the 2026 recruiting cycle. A running back named Crinidad Thambliss

Texas Longhorns running back Christian Clark rushes with the ball against the Michigan Wolverines during the first half at Camping World Stadium. | Matt Pendleton-Imagn Images

The Texas Longhorns have already landed their starting running back for next season, but more good news has arrived regarding that position.

Per reports from Horns247, Texas running back Christian Clark is set to return next season instead of entering the transfer portal.

The Longhorns secured a commitment from Arizona State running back Raleek Brown out of the portal but Clark will likely have a significant role as a backup.

His father coached my son at LB this year in HS. Dad is intense and knows LB, so this hits close to home....

Some people on the recruiting board know his parents also. Sounds like they are a really good family.

Oh, great, the guy who tried to burn down the Texas football program as he had to be forced to leave is now here to save the day with his "advice"!

He doesn't need attention, he just wants to help.

We are saved!!!

On the Peach Bowl broadcast, they said that Cignetti cares about production over potential. So basically college stats instead of high school star rankings. Thought it was interesting and a good philosophy.

Because it's an insult to my intelligence. He talks like he's really smart, but all he does is state the obvious. #1 rule of FB, a good running game starts with a good OL. Sark has yet to put together a difference making OL. He was able to hide it with Bijan and to a lesser extent Brooks.

That's why many of us are so frustrated, the answer is obvious, but it still hasn't been resolved and unless there's something major in the next few days the problem will still exist next season.

obvious answer, maybe, but an exceedingly difficult problem to solve. being able to recruit and coach a dominant OL clearly isn’t obvious or it wouldn’t be so rare. it’s not like sark and flood haven’t been trying to do it for 5+ years. they just haven’t figured it out.

Yes, but it also shouldn't be so difficult with Texas' $ and resources. What other top program has had OL's as bad as Texas over the last 5 years?

Today might be a VERY good day. Like VERY good. And that Yale OL stud is still in Austin. Getting him is a huge deal if that happens. Then we can pick up some weapons. This is the year to go all in and swing our money bags. I am think Harris is a complete imbecile and Flood inspires zero confidence but just getting dudes on the OLine that are better than what we had is huge. Is it sustainable for 2027? I doubt it but it requires a better GM and Flood has to go if we go all in with a portal haul and an ascendant Arch and we don’t get past the semis. This is as positive as I am likely to get so take it. 😂

This is one of the funnier lines I've seen on this board. Now, we're pining for an OL transfer from Yale, of all places. At least he shouldn't blow too many assignments.

Strange things, man.

No blown assignments would actually be a pretty good step up. Arch doesn't need Banks, he just needs someone to get in the way for 1.5 sec.

3 ivy League oline have been drafted in the last two drafts, two of them after a transfer and an all- conference season at their new school. The third one was drafted in the 3rd round after playing his entire career at Yale, Kiran Amegadjie.

Personally after seeing what's happening at Indiana it's a mystery why now coaches aren't hitting G5/FCS/D2 for older players with high upside.

Well much like the NFL, college football is a copycat league now. It’s taken some time to realize recruits aren’t the soul be all end all. They are slower to react to make changes. After last nights Peach Bowl massacre they see emulating schools like JMU or Indiana are the way to have sustainable year over year success.

Man, fuck all that Coleman shit. I would really make some linemen have to tell me no. I would rent 5 fucking mansions. "This is the left tackle's house, left guard's house, center's house, and so on".

"This is Alfred. He will take care of anything you need"

"This is Jeeves. He will take you anywhere you need to go".

"Here is Cinnamon's number, and here is her <menu>. You like redheads? She recommends Tanya. Oh, you like weird shit. She says call Jane. Her safeword is pineapple".

"Each house has two master's for you and the backup Left tackle. Starter calls the shots. "

"Here is your parents' travel package complete with accommodations and game tix".

"You have an issue with someone around town? Text Nicole the person's name followed by the words "Town Lake".

We would have the best O-line in the country. Opt out for the NFL? Fuck all that. Whole line full of 1st round seniors, too afraid to go to the league because it would "lower their lifestyle".

Some variables that cant be replicated:

1) You’re just not going to portal a QB like Mendoza every year

2) The extra covid year will be cycling off

3) Indiana has an exceptional coach. Put that same roster management in the hands of Tom Herman and see what happens. Mendoza’s used as a battering ram, your secondary is blowing their shoulders out, and when a player comes to the head coaches office, hes wiping the blow from his nostrils.

Sark, Harris, Flood - Y'all listening? This is how you close!

By my math this is the last COVID year of super seniors, but pretty irrelevant assuming the Trinidad lawsuit does not come through

That said there is also the JUCO exception so there should still be a lot of supply of 24-25 year olds going forward.

Proven players in comparison to their level. They have some dudes from JMU that are killing it.

Point being, are we wanting to take dudes with stats against North Shore HS or a 21 year old with stats against G5/FCS opponents?

lets not forget that rz issues is a sec thing. we almost didnt make the big 12 championship if dj campbell doesnt commit a false start. or somehow will howard doesnt fall down on the ensuing kstate posession on the 4th down.

At some point you have to ask yourself why are you even watching college football, why root for Texas when it's just mercenaries with 1 year contracts and an NFL-lite minor league. You're so preoccupied with whether or not we could, no ones stopped to think if we should.

All the talk about personal, to me it comes down to the offensive line. I just don’t understand heavy run sets with a dog shit OL. You got to go quick passing and screen game with 00, 10, or 20 personnel and get speed all over the field so you can spread the defense out. Unless your TE is an awesome pass catcher I wouldn’t even bother trying to get numbers and run all the time when the OL can’t block for shit.

On Our best RB last year was Arch. That needs to change as well, but a big part of it is because we’re running draw or he’s scrambling. This team with this shitty OL isn’t lining up and running power on people.

Indiana has the most 5/6 year players. They are BYU with better coaching.

Agreed, it's burning out really quick. This is coming from someone that was really excited to watch Barnes, Gibson, Black, Ffrench, etc. You can't hide from the fact that paying an 18 year old that isn't fully ready to play all for them to cut and run after one year makes zero sense.

IU ain’t gonna have 5/6 year starters every year…..nor is anyone else.

That was the argument I said the same about TCU in 2022 where super seniors were the key for them, then they collapsed (a game early to boot), then came FSU that ignored highschool recruiting in 2023 and they still have not recovered, last year it was tOSU (but obviously it was from HS recruiting coinciding being upper classmen) now it is Indiana.

Transfer portal and seniors is the ceiling, but highschool recruiting is the floor, that means the best programs would win one year, have a down year and reload, I don't think Texas fans have the patience for that though, just look at this year the negativity snowballed on this forum. Changes should be made rationally, but that is not how our fanbase operates we are the most emotional fanbase period. That is our culture flaw.

That's encouraging.

I'm just surprised that NFL-caliber players didn't sign with a more cerebral FBS program in the first place. Vandy, Duke, Northwestern, Stanford, Rice, etc. They must be late-bloomers and/or 2-stars out of high school.

The problem permeates by other programs willing to overpay for unproven results. No idea what Wisner was able to fleece out of Florida St, but that’s a RB that has yet to crack 700 yards in a season demanding top end pay and desperate coaches/programs paying it….. it’s dumb. To prioritize HS we’ve somehow got to lock in multi year deals.
