That movie he made with his son will be of morbid curiosity now.

At least they took a stab at collaborating before he passed. RIP!

Is When Harry Met Sally a Rob Reiner film or a Nora Ephron film? I could see Reiner writing almost all of the Billy Crystal and Bruno Kirby one liners.

Sleepless in Seattle is 100% an Ephron film.

I think Spinal Tap is my favorite Reiner film. Certainly his best directing/acting combo.

It appears their son, Nick, killed them.

Addicts will hurt, if not kill loved ones, if they don’t get the money they need for drugs. I’ve had stories in my family of the addict literally saying, “don’t make me hurt you,” to the person they love the most.

First thing I did  was look up their sons to see which one was the drug addict. It was sad, but telling.

With all due respect to Rob Reiner, those words are Stephen King's or pretty damn close, as are the final ones.

"I never had any friends like I did when I was 12.  Jesus, does anyone?"

But all credit to Reiner for using the novella as the screenplay.

He also directed and produced Misery.

Not quite sure of the criteria for a "[insert name] film."  If it's all of writing, producing, and directing, then no, When Harry Met Sally is not a Rob Reiner film, as he directed and produced, but did not write.

Stand By Me was one of my favorite films from my adolescence.  A Few Good Men and When Harry Met Sally are two of my favorite films of all time, and my wife and I frequently quote from both of them.

Horrible news.  He seemed like one of the more lovable people in Hollywood.

He cowrote the screenplay with Ephron for When Harry Met Sally. Regardless, terrific film and a brilliant guy. He will be missed.

He contributed to the story, as did Billy Crystal, but I believe Ephron got sole screenwriting credit.

If he had not changed the ending of When Harry Met Sally to be happy, it would not be nearly as popular as it still is.

To the extent I could be accused of parsing between Reiner and King on Stand By Me, like I said, all credit is due to Rob Reiner for treating King's writing as having value unto itself, apart from just "the story."  Hell, even Stephen King didn't do that in prior projects in which he was involved (see Maximum Overdrive).

That led to a bunch of serious movies from King's work, and that in and of itself is a huge contribution.

True, and it was a great ending.

The Body and Shawshank are probably the two closest adaptations of any of Stephen King's works.  So much was lifted from the source material.  That's not to say RR didn't have a huge hand in making Stand by Me an absolute classic.

It's just so fucking sad.

For those of us from a certain generation, Reiner's films practically shaped part of our childhoods. I was 10 when Stand By Me came out. 11 with Princess Bride. In high school when Misery and A Few Good Men were released.

I started watching Princess Bride with my kid when he was 5 years old, probably the first non-animated film that he loved. We've seen it 5-6 times together. Time to fire it up again during Christmas break.

RIP.
