Slutcon (Apropos of Incels, White Male Millennials, Gen Z Nihilism, #MeToo, and Declining Birth Rates)

With regard to incels there is a graduate student at Texas named William Costello who has found that compared to the general populations incels have much higher rates of depression, autism and suicide ideation. The extreme black and white beliefs (women only like male models) is in line with guys that are on the spectrum. This is a mental health issue. One of the popular incel/blackpill influencers is a guy named Clavicular who is on the spectrum and advocates extreme measures to improve his appearance like steroids, bonesmashing, and plastic surgeries like limb lengthening and jaw surgeries. William Costello has appeared on several podcasts and it's worth watching because there is a great deal of misinformation about incels.

Absolutely suggest this.

Although maybe not the “any” part tbh.

Hell, I have a single friend at 35 that is an incel and his apartment is decorated like a 13-year-old's shrine to OU football. What value is there for a woman there?

I had a single buddy. We worked at the same bank.  He made a great salary, and was a decent looking guy.  He had a nice car, and owned a nice condo. He was into hunting and fishing. His condo looked like a fucked-up hunting lodge.  He was 1/2 Korean, so his mom did the no shoes in the house thing.  So, when you walked through his front door, there was a rack with about a dozen pairs of various shoes on it...in the living room.   Mounted dead animals on the walls, the fridge was covered in stickers like it belonged in some hot-rodder's garage.  The 2nd bedroom was filled with garbage cans filled with empty 12 gauge shells to be reloaded on the adjacent reloading bench.

Basically, it looked like a house a serial killer would live in.

The first time I visited, I straight-up told him that his place fucking sucked, and would creep out any woman that set foot in the place.   i've lost touch with him, but during the time we worked together, he never dated.  He fucked whores off TER.  He did that weekly, or more often.  He was happy with that, and thought that I was the asshole for  having a wife that cost me a lot of money.

I think it's the subconscious drive to perpetuate the organization, or perhaps a desire to live vicariously through someone else having fun, but whatever it is, you'll have several matchmakers going to work within a couple of weeks.  For someone with no comfort around women and who needs to date just anyone to get the monkey off their back, there is no easier way.  Plus, church girls are easy.  Once some basic skills are developed, they can then step up to trying to find more appealing women elsewhere.  Also, you don't have to pay $9,000 to touch a single boob.  A hearty after-service meal, a walk in the park, maybe a couple of comments that demonstrate a soul searching for meaning, and they'll be doing a whole lot more than that.

"If you want to find someone desperate and horny enough to fuck your awkward ass no questions asked, go to church!" may the the best--and most fitting--selling point left for American Christianity.

I mostly agree with this but for the incels and weirdos who go to Slutcon I think it still won’t work and they’ll need training wheels. Church is for sure a place where a slightly inexperienced, or dorky awkward guy can meet women with a support network of people cheering for them. Works well for our generation. I don’t think we appreciate how nuked this generation of weirdos are. They are not going to be able to:

- Politely feign interest in the sermon or Bible study she wants to talk or ask about

- Spend a few minutes jawboning with the dads there about a game or camping or how business is going

- Slap on a pair of khakis and a button-down and get a haircut that looks like the married men there (signaling that they are in the mix for that future).

- Get acquainted with a church girl, accept that this particular church girl isn’t interested, and then show up next Sunday and be polite and genuinely friendly, and demonstrate that maybe you’re OK for some other church girl even if the first didn’t work out.

- Making friends with a church girl THEY are not interested in or even—gasp— with another man there so they can practice doing things like “talking to people” or “compromising on an activity” or “grabbing a burger just to hang out.

These guys are FRIED man. They can’t interact with women without either explicitly trying to fuck them, getting angry that they don’t want to fuck, or treating them like non-entities because they aren’t fuckable. They don’t make friends, they just look for other dudes who validate their women hate. They don’t have normal or non-off putting interests and can’t pretend they do.

A lot of these skills they can’t or don’t want to learn and they didn’t learn them in youth group or wherever. My folks are in leadership in a church and have talked to me about 1-2 burnouts— 18-20 with no job or prospects— who actually where part of the church with their families. They failed to develop and they’ve had to be talked to (and their parents) about how church is for everyone, and that means these dudes can’t creep on girls and act wounded when girls don’t reciprocate.

At what point would it be appropriate for them to voice their love of step-sibling porn into the conversation at church? Asking for a friend.

Anyway, better advice than Slutcon is: try to become an acquaintance or friend of a woman you are not sexually attracted to. Go in with the intention of getting to know a woman you don’t think you’d ever want to fuck, and don’t act like you want to fuck her. Don’t even think about it.

- Maybe you’ll make a friend. Awesome! She will also likely help you meet more women. Use your new social skills there.

- Maybe she won’t want to get to know you. Maybe she won’t like being around you. Maybe your problem is just “people.” Time to reassess. Tweak your game. Try again champ!

- Maybe this is a meet cute and over time you will fall for each other. This won’t happen but it could. But don’t try to make it happen.  If you do that you’re doing it wrong! Back to step one— DO NOT TRY TO SLEEP WITH HER.

- Maybe she will mistake friendly interest for romantic interest and you will need to grapple with that. Look at you- putting someone in the “friend zone.” Are you a bad or cruel person? Is it your fault that she couldn’t accept what you felt and were offering?  No? Many life lessons to ponder here.

That’s an announcement you make at the altar call.

My son put it more succinctly: “just treat women like human beings, and it all falls into place.”
Seriously, all the dominoes fall once you do that. Have give-and-take conversations with women, treat them with respect, actually get to know them…and then it become super-easy to engage with and attract women you’re interested in because guess what? You’ve already run the drill.
The boy has several female friends. They do things together, make each other laugh, trust and help each other. That’s the foundation for any healthy relationship, including an intimate one. I mean, does it frustrate me that he just thinks of that super-cute and smart Sarah from Manchester as just a friend? Sure. But the flip side of that is that she’s one of his biggest advocates, looks out for him, speaks well of him to other women, etc.
The bigger umbrella problem here is what is pointed out above: these dudes have no social skills AT ALL. They can’t even engage in decent relationship with other guys.

How much correlation with the kids being discussed here and having their brains saturated in devices and social media and rampant easily available porn (just naming a few factors for consideration) during formative development years. Yeah, not really surprising when you put that all up in the psychological development shaker you are going to have a good number of maladapted boys come out the other side. Limited social skills, unhealthy relationship expectations of women, creeper behavior. Certainly there are lots of upbringing scenarios that can lead to the maladapted behaviors being discussed, but we sure flooded the pool with some of the factors mentioned above for the birth cohorts being discussed here.

IMO the problem is that there is no place for kids to just be kids, outside of maybe church. And even then, church isn't normal social interaction.

Has social media made that problem worse? Absolutely. But at the root, you take away cell phones and porn, what difference do you expect to see? It's loitering to hang out somewhere. Kids walking to the park get CPS called after their parents. You can't really exist anywhere without a meter running and running up a bill.

There's no jobs for them to get and build those skills either - it's just a foundational undermining of the social fabric.

Not having friends is a major issue and it would be fascinating to see the make friendship rate for Slutcon attendees. A big issue is men who expect a prospective partner to fill every social, emotional, and sexual need they have. It’s notable they don’t have a philosophy to blame men for a lack of friends.

These people have existed. If you recall Columbine, the shooters targeted pretty girls and the boys they liked. In this decade they’d be called incels.

I do think the online world allowed them to seek out others like them, take shelter from the reality of their behavior, and even create a monetized ecosystem targeting them. We all knew a few “incels” in college and high school— no one was trying to make money off them and they didn’t have a huge community of people validating their frustrations.

We need to consider the impact on women and girls, too. It is no longer one weirdo classmate leering or making inappropriate comments on her body, or developing an unreciprocated crush. It’s a stream of inappropriate, awkward, unwanted sexual advances from guys who are fed a stream of OF girls by the algos.  A dating app is designed to deliver low-effort shock flirting or creepy advances that and I believe it creates a really distorted view of what most men are like.

A topic for another thread is the impact of platforms that encourage teenagers to express their opinions of a classmate’s bikini photos via nuanced pictograms and what that does to everyone’s mental health.

I believe there is a difference in guys that women consider as friends and guys they consider sexually/romantically.

Doing the friend thing is cool if you’re uncomfortable with women, but getting them sexually interested is another thing altogether.

This is the biggest problem. These people went from being chastised and forced to get their shit nominally together to having Nick Fuentes and Andrew Tate tell them their behavior is okay and it’s the fault of the women, who are horrible.

My friends would make fun of me for doing that instead of sports. Uh guys I get nearly naked with girls in dressing rooms during rehearsals and shows. You get naked with other dudes in the showers.

Yea a few of my buddies joined he theatre clube the next year.

I get the impression we're either preaching to a choir or like ships passing in the night, here. All of this "grow a pair, man up, flirt harder, hit the gym, get a haircut"-type advice is as well-intentioned as it is misguided. We're dealing with a pathological problem that is so profound, you'd be better off advising a paraplegic to try going on walks if they want to get in shape to run marathons.

The discourse about the effects of smartphones, iPads, and social media algorithms might get us to a partial explanation, but I'm not sold on the idea that this is happening on generational lines. As many have shared, there always have been clueless and hopeless guys who either resigned themselves to a life of isolation or regularly patronize sex workers in lieu of a dating life. It might be more widespread these days, especially among the generation that lost a few years of in-person school/college. My observation in regard to those people is that the venue and rituals for socialization have changed. Everything happens in group chats and DMs. People are constantly in a state of giving Continuous Partial Attention to their surroundings (but it's not just the Gen Z, Alpha who are guilty of this). You can be switching between several deep conversations, while listening to some podcast, while trying to do homework or respond to work e-mails. That's how I see much of modern socialization going on, even when you're sitting at brunch with the most important people in your life, there in the flesh. People's heads are buried in their phones, but they aren't necessarily ignorant of their surroundings or mentally absent from the situation. In many instances, their brief departures into their inboxes and social media feeds will spark new lines of conversation.

Slutcon really only tries to address one discrete obstacle that certain kinds of guys encounter, and the author ties this obstacle to cancel culture and post-#MeToo rules of engagement. The obstacle is their lack of intimacy experiences, tied to a bewilderment regarding the rules of engagement surrounding consent. They made a whole blockbuster comedy about the idea of a guy having reached the age of 40 as a virgin, and the reason the movie worked as a premise is because there's a general understanding that the dating world stigmatizes the lack of sexual experience. AND AND AND, it's even possible for this to happen when the guy is seemingly normal and likeable. A guy who isn't inherently hopeless, he just missed the boat for one reason or the other. A guy who could get dates, if he wasn't so afraid of what would happen when things get intimate and he's outed as inexperienced.

Agree, have always existed.

Do you think the prevalence among boys in the birth cohorts we are talking about has changed and is much higher than in prior gens? Or is that a perception change among us based on other factors? Certainly the ecosystems you mention are one huge aspect that "communitize" these maladapteds. I think it's some stew of all of the factors discussed in the thread above, but if there is one common thread to these factors that is acting as a societal promoter/accelerator it would seem to be the online orientation.
