I don't remember the exact details.
But yeah, pretty much fired "for cause".

How many times is Kliff going to get to fail in the NFL?

If we're being honest he has one year of success 13 years ago as the OC for Sumlin calling plays with Johnny Manziel as QB.

I would say the Raiders are even more poorly run than the Cowboys. Last Super Bowl in 1983. But hey, they’ve got a new stadium that came equipped with a money printing machine.

Last year with Jaden Daniels doesn’t count?

Good call. 2/13 is wild though. This guy keeps failing up.

With middling talent, his Tech offenses ranked 24th, 55, 2, 5, 23 and 17. His defenses were just god awful

And sadly, they have been in 2 AFC championships and a Super Bowl more recently than Dallas.

I really like Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore. It sucks they will likely go to franchises ill-equipped to hire a proper coach. I think Moore might have a better chance if he doesn’t go one overall of landing a better team. If I’m building the ultimate team I’d hire Kliff as QB coach or an OC and likely Flores as DC and either McVay or Vrabel as my HC. In a perfect world. The Raiders need a grown ass man who can hire a proper staff. Mendoza is one of those rare perfect QBs. Total playbook nerd. Exactly the right height and weight. Can scramble. Loves the game. Supports his teammates. All the intangibles. About to get demoralized and wasted on the wrong team if they don’t hire a proper head coach.

Mendoza thrives in a process oriented strict atmosphere. He can’t go to a complete mess with a shit HC. I know people laugh at McCarthy and he’s getting a lot of looks and his clock management and in game decisions are shit but he would be good for the Giants. I just don’t know if there is a process oriented type coach that can be a Cig in the NFL for Mendoza to thrive under and that sucks to watch essentially a perfect QB prototype get wasted under shit mgmt.

Kingsbury’s tenure as Skins OC was largely positive as evidenced by reaching the 2024 NFC championship game. It’s difficult to dump 2025 in his lap because of the injuries to QB1 Daniels, QB2 Mariotta, RB Echelor, WR1 McLaurin, and TE1 Ertz, among others.

Even so, defense was an equally, if not larger problem. Youth, over the hill veterans, and a clueless DC who was relieved during the season (and ultimately fired) by the HC are in their recipe for failure.

But yeah, pretty much fired "for cause".

Gruden was not actually fired for cause, as he resigned his position.

https://sports.yahoo.com/how-much-will-raiders-ultimately-pay-jon-gruden-to-leave-it-depends-if-he-he-wants-to-fight-041026115.html

The fact that after just over three seasons of work Gruden would be owed only $40 million of his supposed $100 million deal is highly suggestive of two things that circled around the league’s contract community in 2018: First, that the entirety of Gruden’s $100 million deal was not fully guaranteed, making it similar to the player contracts that are often inflated with voidable or non-guaranteed cash; and second, Gruden’s deal was likely backloaded, meaning that, no, he didn’t make $60 million in his first three-plus seasons and then become a bargain in the remainder of the 10-year deal.

Why is Gruden still owed any money if he resigned? The legalese is called "constructive discharge," which is the act of resigning under the pressure of a firing. Essentially, if Davis told Gruden that he would either be fired or could resign under duress, it would be considered constructive discharge. And if Gruden’s legal representation can argue that the Raiders didn’t have grounds to force a Gruden resignation over emails that pre-dated his employment then Gruden can still be entitled to whatever guaranteed money was left on his deal.

The way it has stacked up, this appears to be precisely what happened. And the whole legal argument about what right the Raiders had to fire Gruden for cause all depends on what is written into his contract. What really matters is whether Davis wants to pay Gruden that guaranteed money, and whether Gruden wants to raise a legal fight about it. At the moment, it appears both sides want to work out a settlement and part ways as quietly as possible rather than turning this into the second (and far less appealing) Davis and Gruden center-stage spectacle of the past four years.

I think for lunch today I'll get the Big Mic combo from McDaniels.

He's an outstanding developer of QBs. He is respectable as an OC.

I wish he'd stop trying to be a HC.

TIL german announcers prefer to sound like the Sgt Schulz rather than calling the game in their native language....."Hooogaaannnnn!!!!"

Lions (Dan looking for a Ben Johnson type) are showing interest in McDaniel as an OC. That could be a great pairing.

The Falcons will interview former franchise quarterback Matt Ryan, among others, for a new role entitled the "president of football," owner Arthur Blank said Thursday at a news conference.

The president of football position will be hired first, and Blank has interviews with several candidates in the next few days. Whoever gets hired as president of football will lead the interviews for the head coach and general manager candidates, Blank said. The Falcons fired head coach Raheem Morris and GM Terry Fontenot on Sunday night.

One of those coaching candidates could be John Harbaugh, who was fired earlier this week by the Baltimore Ravens.

"John has been one of the most successful coaches in the last 20 years in our league," Blank said. "He has won at every level. And so, he would certainly be a candidate who we'd want to spend some time with. Whether or not [he has] an interest in Atlanta, I don't know."

Ryan, 40, has no front office experience. But he was the best player in franchise history, the quarterback who led the Falcons to Super Bowl LI. Blank said he will be considered for the role -- and many believe the role was created for him -- because of Ryan's experience leading a football team, as well as his knowledge of the game and how to work with players and staff.

A bit surprising they didn't do it quicker. He is a weird cat. Haven't really seen the results to make it all worth it.

True... his brother is coaching San Diego. But that's like San Francisco weather, compared to Mi-Freaking-Ami.

Anyone ever been to SanFran? It's cold AF in the summer.

I was thinking there was a small chance that our Texas QB would start for Miami next year, under McDaniel.

Hope the next coach likes Quinn.

Baltimore would be stupid to hire some offensive wonderkind. Lamar Jackson is their offense. Hire Brian Flores or Robert Saleh

Maybe its time to re-think the approach with Lamar? It hasn't worked so far in his now 8 seasons. Getting someone fresh to shake things up could be a breath of fresh air. They did bring in Henry to take some of the weight off his shoulders but then you'd have games like NE a few weeks on SNF, where Henry wasn't given the ball for the final 10min of the game or something like that. Made no sense at all.
