What are your thoughts on us losing to B10 powerhouse Maryland?

My point is that we've lost to much worse and making a dismissive comment about ISU just being ISU is the kind of entitled nonsense that got us into this 10 year rut.

You don’t make unreasonable points, but why be a little bitch by predicting a loss to Iowa State.  This ain’t the 2014-2016 Longhorns.

The ESPN matchup predictor gives us a 66% chance of winning. I'd love to see the inner workings of their super secret algorithm.

Tech was about the same percentage to win going into the game this weekend. So I don’t put much faith in it.

I don't see Tx winning this one, ISU is playing really damn well. Their O is a terrible matchup for our D.

This feels like a better matchup for our D than OSU, WVU and tech. They a run a more pro-style offense and don’t air it out as much. Much better fit for guys like Wheeler.

They are like us in the sense they want to control the ball and clock, go on long scoring drives and keep the opposing offense off the field (like we did against tech in the first half and 3rd qtr).

I really wish they would’ve beaten Iowa.

We need to really rep run defense. ISU knows the style of defense we run and how to attack it probably better than anyone else. Orlando used ISU as his inspiration last year. And this is an ISU coaching staff that beat ousux last year and wvu this year. If we are ever out of position, ISU will take advantage of that

This will be the toughest win since OU.  And by far the best defense we have faced/will face all year.  ISU's on a 5-game streak themselves.   This is going to test the offense like no other game, maybe even the bowl we're going to.
I don't see us winning this one right now.  But maybe they can actually rally for their best game of the year.

Last comment on the mark.  To beat ISU, Horns might need a similar performance to their first 3Qtrs vs BlowU

I just can't see UT winning in Manhattan, Kansas. At the end of the day, it's still KSU. No matter how good a year they're having, KSU is just one of those schools we pretty much always lose to on the road. Ron Prince even beat us twice.

A decent portion of our fanbase, a month and a half ago.

It seems like it would be in the best interest of both parties in the contract to agree to have it simulcast on one of the other channels as well.  Looking at http://www.gameviewingguide.com/ it looks like that timeslot is free on ESPN News.  I'm sure not everyone gets that but its likely carried by more packages than LHN.  I'm on YouTube TV so no LHN for me.  For the Spring game I did that PSVue 1 week free thing.  For the early season game on LHN I borrowed a buddies Spectrum account who was at the game, and streamed it.  I guess I will have to go that route again.
Get ya another gmail email address and do the one week thing again.

This. Their offense is actually somewhat similar to ours. They don't constantly hit on the big, gamebreaking plays like the teams above plus OU, which have given us problems. Their D has obviously proven salty. This could be pretty low scoring.

No it won't, Texas will beat the shit out of ISU.

Will Herman's honey be making the trip?

No one’s kicked our ass since Campbell’s first year.

Would be a lot of fun to play the Huskers right now.

Post about laying some $ on the ISU + 3 looks like a pretty good risk mitigation option.

For competitive B12 matchups we need a greater than average favorable impact of turnovers and exceptional plays by our skill players.  It can happen, and it has happened, but it can't be predicted.   Based on the last half dozen games the outcome is a tossup.  Based on this opponent, I think our win probability is less than 50%.  Still, we can hope for getting more than our share of good stuff.

Further, I have to think ISU's player mindset is much more favorable that that of Texas' players.  I.e. their confidence in their ability to execute, and their focus.

Texas -3 sounds right. These teams are basically even, Texas gets the slight advantage for home field.

I'll reserve a prediction until we know who is and isn't playing on defense, but if Brandon Jones and Chris Nelson are back I'd feel a lot better.

Agreed.  This will be a nail biting dog fight.

Physically, we seem to match up pretty well with ISU. We do better against tall receivers, we do better against QB's who are not great athletes at the position, and we do better against teams that don't run tempo. Offensively, if we can establish the run I feel like we can win the game. Defensively should be an improvement over the last two weeks at the very least.

I'd considered this match-up to be even with advantage going to the home team.  But now, with Zach Smith helping Tom Herman to create perhaps the greatest football motto of all time...I don't think it'll be that close.  Longhorns by two scores with "Ok cool, Hook 'em" on the lips of 100k Longhorns fans.

IT team notes (lots of injury news)

TEAM

If you heard the theme song to M.A.S.H. during UT's locker room celebration on Saturday night, it wasn't a flashback to the 70's. With the physicality this team plays with, you're going to get banged up. It got to a point in Lubbock where we saw third stringers like Donovan Duvernay on the field. Here's what we're hearing....

Davante Davis has an ankle issue, but it shouldn't keep him out versus Iowa State. Josh Thompson had x-rays on his ankle, and came out in the clear, so he should play too. Caden Sterns is in concussion protocol, but sources seemed to think he'll be fine. That's a little tricky and he'll be monitored throughout the week. That call is in the hands of doctors. Brandon Jones might give it a go this week, but that's to be determined. We'd still list him as doubtful with the high ankle sprain. Now, about the players not in the secondary.

Breckyn Hager is dealing with a busted shoulder, right elbow issues, and other pains. If he was good to versus Tech he'll be good to go versus Iowa State. He's probable but still not himself.

Davis, Hager, and Gary Johnson were in the Pit on Sunday. Johnson is nursing a mild groin strain but limiting him is just precautionary. He'll play.

Collin Johnson is still nursing his right knee but wanted to try and play last week and was told no. So, he'll likely try again. We'll call him questionable.

Keaontay Ingram re-injured his hip pointer, but I expect to see him vs Iowa State. They'll likely limit him in practice this week, especially with what's in store.

It's still unclear to what extent, but Calvin Anderson is banged up. There's a reason for his poor performance over Tech. We just keep hearing he's banged up with no specific injuries. We're not trying to excuse his play but obviously he didn't look right on Saturday night.

While the offense has played quite well for most of the season, and we've seen improvement throughout, the defense has not played well, specifically lacking in the fundamentals department. This week they'll get back to basics by holding physical, full-pad practices for the first time in a long time. Expect the team to scrimmage for the first time since August camp. This is what I've been waiting to hear for some time.

Said a source, "how they handled the team last year is how they should have handled this one, and vice versa. That team didn't need the physical practices but this one does. I know he was instilling culture, I'm just saying this team needs the physical practices more than the last one. I'm sure he'll find the balance in the coming years."

On Sam Ehlinger, thank the Lord he's healthy. He's in the midst of truly special season which began immediately after Maryland. While fans complained about his two-turnover performance to start the season, Sam's confidence actually grew after that game. From working on his mechanics, to knowing the vast playbook frontwards and back, to his summer timing sessions with the wide receivers and tight ends, Ehlinger is becoming exactly what we thought he'd be... a star.

The Las Vegas Sportsbook has him as the 2nd odds-on favorite to win next year's Heisman Trophy, only behind his friend, Tua Tuagolivia.

If you asked Ehlinger about his success, he'll credit everyone - coaches, offensive line, running backs, and wideouts - except himself. That's just Sam. A kid mature beyond his years with a work ethic and competitiveness that every superstar holds. After mostly a decade of decrepid offenses, Ehlinger gives the Longhorn faithful hope for the next two and half years.

The ISU qb is no kyler Murray but he's a threat on the ground/moving around the pocket. Will he go for 250 on the ground, hell no. But he will convert 3 or 4 3rd downs due to his legs. Think slightly less athletic baker mayfield

The SBN Iowa State blog has declared this game the biggest in the history of the program, which actually isn’t far off. An Iowa State win gives them a good shot at the CCG which they’ve never been to before. We’re gonna get their best shot. Can’t believe this shit is on LHN

I'm shocked it is as well.  This is a big game.  TX wins by 4 in another close game

I quit wearing orange tinted glasses a long time ago.  I don't take anything away from Campbell as he's a damn good coach and I love the ISU fans....that said, for some reason I think we win this one comfortably.  I don't base that on analysis just gut feeling....

We either finally put together a complete game, or ISU has an off night (or both).

But he is Purdy.
