Media Bias Thread

NY Times blocking its reporters from going on certain shows on CNN and MSNBC. Again, it's not really about bias, it's about accuracy.

For two years, I have written about the declining journalistic values in this age of rage with both reporters and legal analysts becoming open partisans for or against Donald Trump. I recently spoke on this decline in objective and neutral reporting. It appears that the situation has become a threat to the journalistic principles of The New York Times. According to Vanity Fair, the newspaper is barring its reporters from appearing on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show and CNN Tonight with Don Lemon as too biased and one-sided.

You're using a terrible article source. The NYT is barring their journalists from appearing on opinion shows. That includes Maddow, Hannity, but yet if they NYT deems the show to be centrist then it's ok.

Also lol at this part:

The concern that many of us have raised is how hosts and reporters at CNN and MSNBC openly mocked or counter Trump and the Republicans. Fox has been accused of the same bias in favor of the Administration. However, Fox often runs tough interviews and pieces against Trump, who has complained about the coverage.

Fyi.... US media reportedly would not touch this story

"Sealed FBI audio tapes allege Martin Luther King Jr. had affairs with 40 women and watched while a friend raped a woman, a report claims"

By:  Bill Bostock.       May 28, 2019, 9:23 AM

  • FBI documents from the 1960s allege Martin Luther King Jr. had affairs with 40 women and stood by as a friend raped a woman, a new report said.
  • An article by the King biographer David Garrow set to be released on Thursday in Standpoint magazine will detail the FBI memos, London's The Times reported.
  • Garrow said the memos say King engaged in orgies, solicited prostitutes, and "looked on and laughed" as a pastor he knew raped a woman.
  • The memos were part of a huge US National Archives data dump in early 2019.
  • The FBI secretly recorded King in a yearslong effort to discredit him. The tapes themselves remain under seal in the US National Archives. And Garrow's article was rejected by more prominent news outlets. So the story carries many unanswered questions about the accuracy of the FBI material.
  • The King Center, which chronicles King's life, declined to comment on the allegations.

This article contains details that some readers may find upsetting.

It's hilarious how you are sticking to the "Mueller didn't clear him" thing. That was never his job, he isn't there to prove a negative. Oh well, keep fucking that chicken, you are helping those you hate.

Except... they are reporting on them? NYT, politico, Wash Post all have something about these allegations.

Boy, the media sure dropped the Virginia shooting coverage. I just can’t put my finger on why that would be the case.

Trying to figure out how far down the line down on the chart of succession to governor he was in Virginia.

Good to hear others are picking up the story on secret MLK audio tapes conducted by FBI.   In the article it reported that Wash Post previously rejected the story.  Here's a quote:

In a separate article describing the magazine's rationale for publishing the story, Standpoint's acting editor, Michael Mosbacher, said Garrow's work was previously rejected by The Guardian, The Atlantic, and The Washington Post. A number of unnamed conservative magazines in the US also shied away. Mosbacher does not explain why they rejected it, although he implies they felt it was too controversial."

Probably because mass shootings have become so common that the body count was not high enough or victims young enough to garner any coverage more than the run of the mill mass shooting.  It’s truly and indictment of the kind of world we live in now.

Russian bomber intercepts American F-22 Raptor maybe?

Fake news couldn't even get themselves up in the air to photograph a military intercept as it happened. Shouldn't have even run the story if they can't get the supporting picture right so they don't confuse viewers.

if it's about the michael wolff comment, he's promoting his new book, and did an interview on cnn, which obviously they're gonna promote on their own site.  most of what he talked about was firsthand conversations he had with steve bannon, including the "how the trump presidency is going to end" discussion, or whatever.

the bottom pic of the blonde woman is that crazy dominican republic story.

i don't roam the cnn app, but still don't see very much i would call noteworthy or out of place on that screenshot.

Hey guys, the NY Times isn't anti Trump. They are, however, an object of ridicule and a farce.

https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/new-york-times-not-anti-trump

A top editor from The New York Times declared the paper is not “anti-Trump” on Thursday despite the Gray Lady’s own staffers recognizing its liberal reputation.

“We are in no way anti-Trump,” deputy managing editor Rebecca Blumenstein said at the Financial Times’ Future of News event, according to reporters in attendance.

NEW YORK TIMES DRAFTS 'ARTICLES OF IMPEACHMENT' AGAINST TRUMP

The Times has long been accused of leaning left, something the paper’s newsroom is very much cognizant of. A Times insider recently told Fox News that colleagues are aware of the paper’s reputation and are “rightly sensitive” about it.

The sensitivity regarding the paper’s liberal reputation has resulted in some top reporters being wary of appearing on far-left cable news programs such as MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.” The Times insider said that appearing on such programs makes it hard to convince people they’re actually neutral reporters.

Google rewards reputable reporting, not left-wing politics

Free article summarizing the Economist article: https://gizmodo.com/report-google-news-does-not-have-an-anti-conservative-1835362673

Quote

It’s pretty much conservative dogma at this point: Silicon Valley is secretly discriminating against Republicans and conspiring to push left-wing propaganda on everyone! Donald Trump throws out unsubstantiated bile on the topic left and right, while Republicans in Congress and right-wing media parrot it nonstop. That’s all been despite a lack of any credible evidence suggesting it’s true, beyond the usual hearsay and distortion.

Here’s something that will absolutely not change the most feverish minds opining on the topic—that would contradict the conservative persecution complex that now dominates much of GOP politics—but is interesting nonetheless. This Saturday, the Economist posted the findings of a year-long analysis it ran on Google’s news tab in search results, concluding there is no evidence that Google goes out of its way to mess with conservatives or lend a helping hand to Democrats.

......

The result, according to the Economist, was that liberal and left-wing sites do appear more than conservative ones. But the left side of the news spectrum didn’t appear disproportionately more than conservatives: For example, the predictive model estimated the liberal New York Times would get 9.2 percent of Google news results, while it actually got 7.7 percent. Meanwhile, Fox News “beat its modest expectations” at 3.2 percent vs a prediction of 2.6 percent.

Far-right sites did not rank highly. But that was mostly because they had “bad trust scores,” the Economist wrote. (Shocker!) The same phenomenon impacted a left-wing site, the Daily Kos.

Highly charged language in the summary but couldn't get behind Economist article to get its quotes.

There is no media bias. The fact is that right wing talking points are garbage that isn't worth listening to. There is no conspiracy against republicans, just most of us sane people have decided that we want to tune them out, based on the fact that they are now just basically the crazy uncle of the family who thinks aliens raped his dog, and Obama knew about it, or something.

If the media is biased towards anything, it's toward making a buck.

"I think Trump did in a much worse fashion."

So Bill Maher thinks that Hillary Clinton, a private citizen, obstructed justice. He also thinks that Donald Trump, the President of the United States, obstructed justice while in office "in a much worse fashion."

What should we do with his opinions?

Is anybody following (or even aware of) the New York Times ban on reporters going on "opinion" cable news shows?

I guess MSNBC is pissed that they have banned their reporters from going on some Fox (obviously), MSNBC (Maddow), and CNN (Don Lemon) shows.
