We let Buddy go this afternoon.  He died in my arms in the park at 2:47pm.  This wasn't just my dog.  He was my friend.  I cherished every last minute with him and am so grateful for his life.

I was living with my parents in 2016 outside of Mineola, Tx.  The highway intersection near their land was a common area for people to abandon their dogs.  One day we were looking out the front door and saw this little guy coming up the driveway and headed to the barn.  My mom started putting food out and every day moved his bowl a little closer to the front porch.  He was ours from that time on.  My mom passed away in 2021 and I promised I would take him after she was gone.

He never barked or made much noise.  All he wanted was to eat, sleep, go outside, and occasionally go to the park.  But most of all he was there watching his Longhorns every step of the way with the occasional half time nap.  I will miss you the rest of my days.

Hook em Buddy. Sounds like an amazing friend.

Outstanding name choice.

Cross-posted from the Holiday Insanity thread. Just missed a shot of Archie mounting Maeby while she bathed Gracie. Would have been a Christmas card finalist for sure.

A little futbol on a nice chilly day. Brie loves this weather. You can see she has an extra bounce in her step when it’s this brisk.

Is it too late to get Brie on the 26 US Team? She's the ball defender/possessor we need in the World Cup.

Such a noble boy.  Picture of him kissing the baby is PRICELESS and an heirloom for that child.  Good boy Ranger-say hello to Callie, Magic, Bailey, and Zeke for me. And you are correct, chewy, the words cannot describe the hole in your soul feeling, but we who have lost a beloved canine kid understand completely.

Friend’s wife decides to take their dog for a quick walk before they leave town. Then decides it is ok to let him off leash near the neighborhood pond full of ducks….

two straight hours later….

my Sadie sort of did the same thing about 10 years ago when I visited my brother.. his lab didnt really care about chasing the ducks... but loved walking up to the pond and sit and watch them.

my idiot Sadie loved chasing my brothers lab, and that worked great when Maddie was retrieving a ball... Sadie never retrieved a damn thing her whole life...

so he Maddie her off leash. I did as well... and my idiot ran after Maddie... and blew right past her when she saw the geese and ducks in the small pond.... got soaked... swam after them for like a minute... the ducks of course were hauling ass to the other side of the pond  I was yelling but She DGAF....

and she realized that she wouldnt catch them... so she turned around and i had to haul her ass out of the water because there wasnt a shoreline, just a dock... got soaked, she immediatley shaked, got more soaked... and we went back to his place to give her dumbass a bath.

lesson learned... dont let a lab near ducks.
