On the subject of Texas Dems, I like the effort from the 51 who have fled the state but I've seen this movie before so I'm not going to give any of them any credit until the special session is over. Anything less than an effective opposition is purely performative. In other words, the jury's still out whether we've got fighters or "more of the same" (folders).

What new UT gear are you looking to buy this year?

I hope his health outcome is good, but “genuinely good guy”? Not based on some of the things I read, particularly how he treated the players on the team when he arrived, his throwing players that HE brought in under the bus at various times, etc. He’s good at giving the “what a great person I am” press conferences and statements at times. I don’t buy it. Still doesn’t mean I hope he dies or anything remotely close to that.

5K could wreak havoc. Ukraine could offer them amnesty after the war, etc, and some could become a fifth column. I mean, they are dead men walking if they remain in Russia or surrender.

It took me approximately 5 seconds to look up how much farmland exists in the United States: 900 million acres (2017 ag census). This dingbat is whining about 300,000 acres, or 0.033% of that land. I eagerly await next week's manufactured controversy.

Apocalypse Now- any edition Animal House-I was at the 40 Acres when it came out, and I laughed so hard my wife got embarrassed and moved across the theater. I think I knew all those characters. -

There is zero chance the Texas dems are able to stop this bullshit. None whatsoever. "Indpendents," especially in red states, care more about Mexicans and trans people than unconstitutional power grabs. That was proven in 2024, unequivocally. There is nothing a republican can do that would make them think "you know what maybe we should give the dems a chance." We crossed that threshold a long time ago and they still vote straight line republican or third party whackjobs that help republicans. They fall for the "woke" label and literally think democrats are evil. Nothing will change their minds if what has happened over the last decade has them still "on the fence." Fuck the law, that's the trend of the day. Newsome should push it through tomorrow. All the eastern California maga fucks can be lumped in with big city liberals and lose every seat they currently have. Make it happen, now.

I totally agree. I was just taking that number from another source and rolling with it. But even if 1/10 that, the problem still remains. Putin has a problem. One, he doesn’t have enough troops to go after a large amount of heavily armed deserters. He needs them for his meat grinding. Two, I’m sure Putin does not want his country to know - or other soldiers or potential conscripts to know - that one can simply say “fuck it” and walk away from the front line with your weapon. Three, that the only thing keeping the deserters from arrest or death or being sent back to the frontline is the fact that they are heavily armed - with the best kit they could select/steal after their platoon mates were killed. This means that for their continued survival, they must make raids on the MOD ammunition logistics system to replenish ammo. I refuse to believe it impossible that at least some of them are doing this.

It doesn't stop there. And then you look at the results of the rest of those seasons, and you come to a quick understanding there was something between the ears of those Texas teams. And it started with Mack. Then you go back and look at how badly his teams shit the bed against Florida State, and you realize there's a pattern. I'll never forget touring the facilities the week after the Nebraska win in '98. The administration had images from that game plastered everywhere like a new covering of wallpaper. I'm not exaggerating. It was everywhere. Like Mack had got some kind of monkey off his back. Nope. The monkey was still there. It would just take a couple of years to manifest. But let's face it. All of those wins over Nebraska were hilarious. And that was Mack, too. He beat Sherrill. He beat Saban. We beat a great Michigan team, beat USC, regardless of how much of an impact VY had on those teams. James Franklin's ineptitude and puckered ass syndrome is on a different level entirely.

CSB alert. Back in the mid-90s, I remember walking up a cross street almost getting to 6th when I saw car drive through the intersection down 6th with a dude out of the sunroof pointing a gun at the car behind them. They get out of view and pop, pop, pop, pop. I heard screaming and saw people running. We run towards the commotion on 6th. Everyone is ducking down. Cops are running down the 6th with guns drawn. We get to the scene to see 2 dudes hobble out of a car. One dude was shot in the arm. The other dude was shot in the leg. I remember standing over the leg shot dude thinking, damn, that's a lot of blood. I believe maybe it was shortly after that incident that they close 6th to car traffic.

International applications are expected to drop significantly. That could increase admissions rates for US students, especially out-of-state applicants (as universities will be looking to recoup the lost revenue).

@SL Xpress You're welcome and at this point I'm searching not just for you but to confirm whether or not my old man memory is getting worse. Further, while I disagree with some of his takes and disliked him at CU, right now I firmly believe he's the best in the business. He occasionally has what I think is a controversial take, but always backs up his logic even if I find it flawed. He certainly knows a lot more anout the game than me and I like that he does not dumb down his content for mass consumption. It's extremely refreshing in today's sport broadcasting world.

NBA Offseason Thread 2025 - Fuck OKC
Mitch Cumsteen replied to Message Board User's topic in Basketball
First, it's not the super max, it's the max. Huge difference. And if you will notice, every all star level player (and some non all stars) is getting the max these days. You see the comparisons to Luka's salary over the next three years. Well, when Luka comes up in 3 years, the Lakers are going to have pay him something like $83 million a year. I promise you Fox's next contract (if he's even still on the team) will look much differently. Secondly, Harper is 19 years old and has never played a minute of an NBA game. I doubt he's one of the best 25-30 players in the league right off the bat like Fox is, and there's almost zero chance he's the better player right now. The Spurs are trying to compete for the playoffs right now. Also, they just locked up Fox for the absolute prime years of his career (age 28-32) and he has no option in year 4. If Harper turns out to be that much better than him and Fox becomes disposable, he's still a tradeable asset. And again, it doesn't blow their cap because the rest of their core is on rookie deals. Worst case is that they end up in the tax one season when Harper's extension kicks in but that's four years down the road. With regard to Clutch... you also need to consider what the Spurs had to give up to get Fox, which was hardly anything for an all star point guard in his prime. Look what Orlando gave up for Bane. Look what the Knicks gave up for Bridges. You gotta give Clutch some credit for the way they played their hand in Sacramento. The Spurs gave back a highly protected Chicago FRP that was likely never to convey. They gave up an even more protected Charlotte FRP that ended up converting into two seconds. They gave up their own 2027 pick which should be in the 20's if Wemby can stay healthy. They gave up the Minnesota unprotected in 2031. They didn't even have to give Sac their own FRP pick back that they fleeced them out of to facilitate the Derozan/Barnes trade. And they got to unload Zach Collins and his shitty contract on top of that. Would I have liked Fox to sign for less? Sure, but this is just the way business is done in the NBA today. I don't get the criticism at all. And like I said, I promise this extension was baked into the deal in the beginning when they made the trade. Now, I don't know that they make the trade in hindsight if they knew they were going to luck into the number 2 pick in the draft, but so what? Hindsight is 20/20. That they got Harper is gravy and yet another asset. -
