Papers, please. Surly thread of deportation cruelty dominance
Brisketexan replied to Captainant's topic in Daily Texan
It is important to continue to call out the truth that functionally the entire "ZOMG IMMIGRANTS AND OUR BORDER!" script is a lie, based on lies. But, they are sweet, comforting lies, because they tell people that whatever is wrong in their life and their country can be blamed on some dirty, swarthy "other," and not on themselves, or the very people they continue to vote for who distract from their failed policies by pointing the finger at a weak "other." If you buy into the immigration issue, you are being played. Stop being played. -

Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen

Yep. But it took me a while -- as it probably takes many, or most, of us -- to get to a place where I wasn't bummed for at least a few hours by an especially painful or gut-wrenching loss. Like the 2015 Okie State game, which was not just a loss, but a reminder of how stupid and unfair life can be. Sometimes you just don't need the reminder, and that's what these games can do because we get a bit invested in them. The emotion makes them both more entertaining and disheartening. At the same time, there are so many glorious things about sports. The willingness to give in to a tear or two, or a visceral bellow of triumph, also makes them more fun, both on and off the field. Young people are so much more able to give in to their emotions that it's a life-affirming thing for me to watch, for instance, the video most of us saw from the other day. And it's our team, so naturally we feel something extra. Love watching the expressions on the faces around Landwehr as the guys in start catching on to what's happening, and the explosion of unmitigated pride and elation from the brotherhood never gets old. It's also an affirmation of everyone else's triumphs and work, so it's basically a communal celebration of values. -

I think furry culture is as weird as the next guy, but if my "official hotel" was warning people about my presence and I'm not breaking any rules or being a nuisance, I'd be fucking pissed. Let people do what they fucking like. -
Oh hai GFS Remember when NOLA was wiped out in June? Me either...

I haven't been in years. That said, they still have the chuychanga with deluxe tomatillo and chips and salsa with creamy jalapeno as well. As long as they can still execute on those items, I'd have a fine meal there. Don't really give a shit about the rest of their menu. But then....I'm also not desperate for it, see the fact that I haven't been in years.

Terry absolutely played some WR in high school. I’ve posted about it before but I watched him in his last high school game. I don’t know if I was misreading things, if he’s truly a bad apple, or if he was just fed-up being 1 of 2 players having to carry a subpar team deep into the playoffs but I was not impressed at all with his body language, demeanor, or leadership. I don’t think I’d count on him lasting at Texas. -

The reason there is cinnamon in Cincinnati chili is because the recipe was brought over by Greek immigrants. It ain't supposed to be Texas Red. -

I am truly glad to see people like Stassney embrace and admit who they are, and demonstrate that their belief system is utterly divorced from any real ethos. The things I listed are things that largely mirror the approach of the Economist. That match the rhetoric (at least spoken, if not genuinely practiced) of numerous conservative leaders from 30-50 years ago, including people like Reagan. Those outfits and people were "shitty conservatives," according to this movement. Because a REAL conservative.....is a Trumpist. Thank you for painting a clearer picture than I ever could. -
