  1. Past hour
  2. It’s natural tendency to assume that everyone has it under control. If you’re a new-ish official for a small county, are you going to start telling 80-year old businesses that they have unsafe practices or need to evacuate their campers right this minute? I would also bet the sheriff’s office is probably sized for the permanent population and not increased for temporary visitors especially the children of well-off parents. in a developing natural disaster, no county official (elected or law enforcement) can adequately address the needs of all residents. It’s like when a hurricane hits the coast, and law enforcement tells you that you’re pretty much on your own during the height of the storm. (I realize hurricanes are not flash floods.) lessons will be learned from this flood and eventually forgotten.
  3. Norrie has a weird tic with his ball bounce at serve. Both guys do but Cilic is way worse. Jarry is just kind of a bitch and I’m glad he lost.
  4. Crystal Falls conditions are absolute garbage. I (tried to) played on Juneteenth-- range is unusable, greens are dirt and weed trash. Played 9 holes in 2 hours 45 minutes and that's all I could take.
  5. So I switched my plan (keeping my number) but have the old shitbox still running on wifi. Rando people's texts still go there (and not to my new Android.) Two guys have completely deleted my my contact in their phones and re-entered w/just my number. No joy. Do I need to fry my Apple account? What's the deal here.
  6. El vomito y la diarrhea
  7. I don’t think most of Netflix’s docs suck, but the Discovery one is certainly much better in that case.
  8. Ok, like I said earlier... that's fucking weird af.
  9. I am surprised by this. When did Russia turn so bad?
  10. Smoked herring at Allinge Rogeri on the island of Bornholm, Denmark. The round church of Osterlars built around 1150 A.D. on the island. This was a church and a place of refuge from marauding pirates. Since the bible was in Latin, the church services were in Latin, and only the priests spoke and understood Latin, there were pictures drawn inside the church to tell the biblical stories to the laypeople.
  11. I’m guessing they’re going out early on the bigger boat, Sig will be right back on the NW by episode 3. Edgar ain’t got any pull.
  12. I ran across the picture of the Camp Mystic cabin locations, and I have to admit that I was shocked that they'd put young kids at this location on a river subject to flash flooding. I guess it hasn't been a problem before now, that just doesn't seem like much elevation. https://www.texastribune.org/2025/07/05/camp-mystic-texas-hill-country-flooding-rescue/
  13. The announcers even said it’s a boring day due to the winds.
  14. If anything, he looks like a bigger perv than Epstein there. Godalmighty.
  15. Exactly how do you manage to make it through the week? There is a near zero chance you have anyone in your life other than a pet parrot that echos your miserable existence.
  16. $1/$2 PLO game on Pokerrrr2 app. 8-handed. Played about an hour, relatively passive game so far, and nobody is raising pre flop. Hero and Villain have about $250 effective. Villain open limps from UTG. Three others call, Hero checks BB with AQxx. Flop is QQA. Villain bets just under half pot. Folds to Hero, who smooth calls out of position. Turn is a 2. Backdoor flush draw is there. Check, Villain bets pot, Hero calls. River is a J. Flush misses. Check, Villain bets half pot. Call or raise? Hero was scared of AA and calls. Too nitty? Villain shows KQ. Did Villain overplay his hand? Should Hero have check raised the flop, turn, or river?
  17. Sen. Mike Crapo from Idaho introduced it. As to why, some combo of religious nanny state horseshit mixed with being able to falsely say this will bring in another $100m a year in tax revenue.
  18. Pretty similar, honestly
  19. I’m guessing Edgar wanted to captain this season and Discovery said we’re not putting that sicko on air.
  20. Why would those repubican public servants give a shit about serving the public?
  21. That's pretty apt. I went to Camp Longhorn one summer after fifth grade and was a bit young for it as an only child and had some homesickness. The following school year, I got into Scouts and we had a one-week summer camp that made it a lot easier to get some merit badges needed for Eagle, like the aquatic ones (swimming, life-saving, canoeing, etc.). I did that for the next few years instead. The conditions were a lot more primitive, which had pros and cons, but the one-week term was more suited to my taste. Scouts was very much like a team sport (and also a bit like a frat, as well). I had a lot of friends that continued at Longhorn, then Kanakuk because football not creepy Christians and molestation, and some girls that were Mystic and Waldemar. It was definitely a thing, but not quite as cultish/cliquish as maybe it became.
  22. There has been a flooding event that killed campers in the past. In 1987 a church bus trying to evacuate a bunch of kids got swept away and 10 kids died close to Comfort. It was a scarring event and when I became a camper a few years later (at a one week, $100 dollar church camp), it was always on the minds of adults. Buses parked for the week where everyone knew them, close to the cabins and pointed at the “back way” out to avoid the river, radios in cabins, etc. I completely agree that local officials needed to be more on this. I just do think that this is going to be a cascading chain of failures in planning and reaction down the line.
