  1. We need more tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations. That way they will have more money, which they will then donate to charities who will take care of society. It's just logical to rely on the kindness of rich people and faceless corporations to make sure that the poor and disadvantaged are looked after. Having the government do that would be insane. If one thing has proven to be true throughout history (and especially in America) it is that you can rely on the wealthy to use their money to help society much more efficiently than the government. That's why they are rich, because they are our superiors, and therefore we need to not get in their way with a bunch of "regulations" that just hamper their ability to make money which, once again, we all just have to cross our fingers and hope they use that money to help people. It's just common sense.

  2. I like how the smug tone has remained all the way from "It's been 6 weeks and Mueller hasn't found anything" to "a couple of guys disagree with a thousand former US Attorneys, but Shaggy CR won't hear the truth." There's some chicken fucking going on alright, comrades.

  3. A little update on the "disposable cup cover for music festivals." Welp, our bank account is soon to be $2500 lighter. My wife and her partner are paying some industrial designer $5k to come up with a prototype. Money doesn't bug me, since she makes good coin, but I kind of think this is becoming more about proving me wrong than anything else. I must have given her my dubious face when she told me, because she said "Don't worry, we'll still own the IP." Now there were a few ways to respond to this. I could have (1) laughed and said "I'm not worried at all," or (2) "You know the IP for something know one wants isn't going to be worth much." However I've been a husband for over ten years, and have self inflicted wounds to prove it. So I said neither. Instead I said "Sounds good to me." Well, I guess the next stop is prototype. I'll have to ask everyone for an NDA before I post it, so none of you assholes steal the IP, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

  5. Disrespect is ingrained in them. When we were stationed in Japan, we needed to sell our car (GT-R) and get a bigger vehicle. So we were gonna put the GT-R on the lemon lot to sell on base. We found a couple that had just moved there from Oklahoma and hadn't gotten a car yet. So I sold them the car (for a lot less than I probably would have gotten for it on the car lot). I accidentaly left a couple of Longhorn stickers in the console. This clown put the horn stickers upside down on his bumper, and everytime I saw him on base he would flash the upside down horns at me and stick his toungue out. We never talked sports when we were selling the car and I'm not sure why he felt comfortable doing it to a guy who gave him a really good deal on it. Just goes to show you can't do anything nice for them.

  9. Yep. Not a "oh my god, lifechanging burger" place -- just good, solid burgers, big onion rings, cold iced tea. And, you know, I've been eating there for 30 years, so it feels comfortable to me. This one sucks. I'm sure it will be reborn as an artisanal cocktail-forward revolutionary fusion concept from the people who brought you "SKRAW," an Arapahoe-Burmese fusion bistro featuring small plates at the always-popular $21 a plate price-point.

  13. The horns down never bothers me - in my view it simply shows the Sooner fans' insecurity with themselves. Instead of promoting their own school, they choose to attempt to attack their rival, instead. They have little brother syndrome.

  14. Not to rekindle the fire here, but I had to laugh at both sides in this thread on the whole "dogpiling" issue and the back-and-forth that ensured. First, to the guys mocking Tech for dogpiling. Why do you care? These are millenials. I mock them for so much more than this. I don't understand them or their ways...for I am caveman Gen X'er. But the CWS is kind of a big deal, and if this is how they want to celebrate, who cares? Second, to my fellow Tech fans who really, really went off in reply and got quite defensive about it....same question...why do you care what some internet guys think about how our team celebrated? It's really not that big of a deal and not worth the responding vitriol. Have a drink, toast the team, and hope we can do better this time around in Omaha. Glad we got out that out of the way...now to the important stuff... When Tech made it in 2014, my brother and I took our dad. It was his dream come true to see Tech in the CWS. I think he would have preferred to see it in the old stadium, but he was ecstatic nevertheless. In 2016, we debated going back, but our schedules wouldn't allow it...my father died the last week of June that year, but he at least got to see Tech play on TV in the CWS again. If he had lived to see them now go two more times, I don't think he would have believed it. He waited decades and could only dream of Tech making the CWS once...much less four times now in six years. I am so thankful we took him in 2014 and he had the opportunity to be there. For me, Tech in the CWS has become a tribute to my father...and this year I hope I can toast him with a championship.

  16. Joe Biden is the supposed front runner of the Democratic Party and just served 8 years as VP. Also, anyone calling it the "Democrat Party" can fuck off on discussions about democrats much the way anyone referring to The University of Texas can fuck off if they're calling us t.u.

  17. Ummm....where’s the post above claiming that it was their favorite/best burger ever? We liked it. Many of us still went from time to time. I was there within the past month. They make a good burger and rings, it’s a good place for a burger downtown. Simple, the kind of good old burger joint many towns have. Losing one like that sucks.

  21. It's good to know the right wing trolls are concerned with apparently the biggest issue facing our nation--- SJWs and a resultant award a college was court ordered to pay their "victim." If only they cared a millionth as much about, oh, say, kids in cages or 12-years-old killed by the police, or hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.

  25. It’s not that they’re idiots and suckers (those too), it’s that Trump is inflicting pain on those they don’t like (browns, libs, statists, etc.). Many of them know exactly what’s going down. They feed off of our disdain, and they get the added sense of belonging to team deplorable. They could be the person he shoots on 5th Ave. and they’d be grinning ear to ear for being a part of showing us how totally owned we are.

  28. as we are preparing our little league team for all-stars we decided to play a couple of select ball tournaments, gauge what we need to work on, and get more game at bats and pitching in pressure situations. Last weekend we wore the collar 0-3. terrible. granted our team was announced at midnight, an we played the next day with no practice or anything, and we were missing some guys. this weekend after we had a week to practice we went out and won the tournament. mini pep had a spectacular weekend throwing a no hitter and hitting a bomb. we play district in two weeks. see how that goes.

  29. Impulse purchases are fun. Went to the local guitar shop for lighter stings for my acoustic today. I purchased way over my skill level. They had a Aspen green Gretsch 5420t hanging on the wall. I wanted it. It had a huge scratch on the back. Tomorrow I pick up my new Aspen green Gretsch, a non display model without the scratch. Is this going to be Porn worthy?

  32. Neoliberalism is Clintonian/Bush politics. Either outright privatization or "public/private partnerships" in as many aspects of life as possible. Deregulation to the maximum extent possible. Performative tolerance and wokeness (black female prison guards and transgender CEOs). Essentially, the economic and social policies that have made Surly posters wealthy and comfortable at the expense of everyone else but not uncouth or demonstrably racist/homophobic/xenophobic/transphobic about it. In a foreign policy sense, the neoliberal order is one that stresses America's primacy and expectionalism. Where the neocon will cheer as brown people are annihilated by white phosphorous, the neoliberal will do the exact same thing but feel guilty about it. Harris, Biden, Buttigieg, and Beto for sure. A few questions... - Would this candidate genuinely seek to hamper the power and wealth of Wall Street? - Does this candidate genuinely want increased worker control of corporations? - Does this candidate actually want to shrink the wealth and income caps? - Does this candidate genuinely oppose foreign adventure wars or the nigh-indiscriminate murder of brown foreigners? If the answer is "no" to any of these, you're dealing with a neoliberal. And most posters here are OK with that because most posters here are decently-well-off white men who benefit (and have benefited for centuries) from a neoliberal order.

  36. Let’s call this what it really is: Trump backed down. His party revolted at the tariff proposal, and he caved like a bitch. He lost. Bigly. Mexico and a bunch of Senators from his own damn party completely pwned him. Trump is a big fucking loser. He can’t even get a second-rate country like Mexico to do what he wants.

  37. Finally, after a decade of wanting to go and one failed attempt, we made it to The Narrows. I have to say, that hike was intense and I honestly think it was harder than the South Rim and Guadalupe Peak. However, it was worth it. Photos of this place do not do it justice whatsoever. It is one of the most beautiful places I have been. I am glad it is so difficult to get to because I think people would fuck it up if given the chance. The crown jewel of Texas swimming holes...
