Being stuck at home I've been getting around to the things I've been blowing off for a while, like fixing my wife's laptop. Replaced the screen sunday. I had to replace it since she was allowing the kids to use it even though I had told her not to as they had dropped it multiple times before finally dropping it at the right angle to break the screen. Her: The keyboard is not working on my laptop, you must have broke it when you replaced the screen. me: did you do something to it? her: no, but the dog knocked over my coffee onto it. me: well, that will do it. her: but the coffee was cold17 points

Tired argument, but no, they're not equally bad. CNN's failures are laziness and stupidity sometimes. FOX is not really a news organization at all. FOX is an unabashed advocacy avenue for the new right. FOX willfully lies. When CNN reports something that turns out not to be true, they retract and admit it. The NYT does the same thing. Ironically, FOX adherents use this self-examination against CNN and the NYT and other reputable news organizations to discredit them. Irony deafness is one of the key indicators that you're dealing with a right wing apologist. But all of this is already known. It's tired. You're smart enough to make we wonder for a second if you are being ironic, but I think not. Love your avatars.14 points

In the age of Trump, EVERYTHING is political. Back when the virus was only in China, the DT thread was a source of news and discussion, including a fair amount of speculation. All the problems began when things started going to shit here in the US. Municipal leaders are handling this well. Governors on both sides are doing what they need to do, for the most part. Hell, even Congress is quickly passing bipartisan legislation freeing up money to battle the pandemic and shore up the economy. The wild card in everything is Trump. He makes everything political and forces us all into pissing contests. it doesn't help that he has made a cult of personality out of a plurality in this country in a way no politician before him has done.12 points

Yeah, it isn't like prominent Democrats have suggested providing households thousands in income per month while we're shut down or anything. Man, if they had done that, then you'd look really stupid.12 points

So we need a CR thread. A nonCR thread. And now a ‘I don’t believe in science thread’. JFC12 points

What the fuck? Uh, no. You're wrong. Donald Trump actively seeking to punish blue states tells us it's political. Sorry to go all Cloaky on you. Oh, wait.11 points

My biggest frustration in how this whole thing has gone down is a lack of focus on the antibody tests. If the idea was to mitigate fear in people, and get them back to work weeks ago, then you should have been telling the public weeks ago that we’re working on wide scale antibody testing. Let the 40-60% of people that had mild cases or asymptomatic testing go back to work. Start the economy is pieces, make the people feel safe and there is a path back stabilize the markets. Kill 2 birds with one stone. im literally amazed this hasn’t been a plan front he started. Its like everyone forgot they exist in the chase for ventilators or stressing social distancing10 points

I have all of my staff working from home, my home. They’re here cleaning and doing my laundry and landscaping. If you didn’t want to mow my lawn you should have thought of that before you became a paralegal.10 points

So I was inspired by watching The Chef Show (Season 1, Volume 3 "Best Friend"), where Roy Choi is making fried bologna sandwiches in a Cuban Sandwich style. Started with this (I made cheesesteaks on the griddle with these last week, but need to finish my stock before it goes stale) After toasting the roll, I fry the bologna (prefer to griddle these, but it was just me so the cast iron works just fine instead). Final product after melting Swiss, adding to bread with mayo, mustard and pickles. Really delicious.9 points

Ignore the DT thread. It's useless. Its uselessness is being exacerbated by the mods. Pretend it doesn't exist.9 points

My parents live north of Dallas and I was really disappointed to tell my daughter that her grandparents were gonna need to die to save the stock price of Buffalo Wild Wings. She was a little sad, but was okay with it because she likes their fries.9 points

Pandemic is too clinical a word. This is a plague. It's horrible. I'm just getting an inkling of how this works on individuals. We need to reserve beach resorts for the summer months where medical workers can go to recover before this plague returns in the fall. Persons who choose to nurse are already special in that they may be cleaning shit off a patient one minute and pumping someone's chest the next. What these fine people will go through during this plague daunts me almost as much as the fear I have of drowning in my own bloody fluids. They will carry so much of this with them when it's over. I wish a major news outlet would personalize what this disease means. Stay healthy, my friends.8 points

If you are trying to may payroll and find it difficult because of the current pandemic, you should direct your ire at the person who didn't think it was necessary to plan for one. And by plan, I mean have people, technology, and processes in place to address it. Oh, and be pissed because that same person called it a "hoax."8 points

Maybe you should start caring about other people living paycheck to paycheck before the fucking pandemic hits see how easy that is? The whole point of @TornACL post was the remarkable stupidity of making this black and white, something you are doing nonstop on the stupid fucking thread bob has to make for you in DT. Grow a pair quit picking places to be simple and contrarian.7 points

Good news. Interested to read the details. Also, if you’re looking for something to kill time, be sure to complete your census survey. It can be done online and it’s very, very important! https://2020census.gov/7 points

I’m gradually shifting towards this line of thinking. Social distancing and stay-at-home are great in theory but terrible in practice because a large portion of the population isn’t playing along. Let’s see.... DFW shuts down but lots of surrounding rural counties refuse to issue similar orders because “they don’t have cases” (their cases haven’t been tested or diagnosed). So in 2-3 weeks they get overwhelmed with cases and their hospitals are full and they want to transfer to DFW hospitals which are already full, despite DFW citizens quarantining for weeks prior. Then what? Fuck those other counties that selfishly think they aren’t affected currently. Get on board now. Not only that, counties issue SIP or stay-at-home orders but 80% of businesses find loopholes to deem themselves essential because greed. Car dealerships? Oil and gas? Residential construction? Give me a break. It should be healthcare, police, fire, utilities. I don’t care if a car doesn’t get sold or a house isn’t built on time. Those people will survive for a while without it. And certain everyday citizens apparently don’t think these orders apply to them. We walked our dogs today and see people around the neighborhood standing in front yards socializing. People seem to think it’s okay for their kids to play with other kids because their friends don’t look sick or what? They are still oblivious to the asymptomatic yet contagious incubation period? They think it’s okay in small groups because apparently COVID-19 only spreads amongst big groups? WTF people. There’s just too much selfishness in American society for this to work. Too many people seem to find ways to justify their own exemption. These half measures punish the cities, businesses, or individuals that are complying without any ramifications for those who don’t. Then we all pay the price together. If we’re gonna quarantine let’s all do it together. If we can’t do that then maybe we just tell high risk people to stay at home and everyone else do their normal thing. I realize many high risk people will still be exposed but I also think that’s on the individual at a certain point just like every other health decision that we leave up to the individual. Not trying to be callous and I definitely don’t know the right path here, just frustrated at the lack of coordination and agreement at all levels on this. There is a significant cost associated with stay-at-home orders and that cost is being paid unequally at the moment. Even if it is paid equally, the eventual damage to the economy, unemployment, poverty, homelessness, physical health, and mental health of our society may very well outweigh whatever lives are saved by ongoing quarantine measures.7 points

The idea that three weeks of non essential businesses closing will somehow destroy the country is asinine pussy talk. Go back to work or Destroy America are not the only two options, but for the simpleton mouthbreather olds in this country, everything has to be binary choice. As soon as these fucking pussies get sick they'll bitch about how shitty the hospitals are. If these fagets had any backbone they'd be saying that nothing can take us down and we'll get through this. But no, the sky is falling because I'm terribly inconvenienced. No wonder we couldn't win the Vietnam War. Worthless Generation.7 points

So we got an email from our school district outlining the school from home they are going to start this week. me: the school sent an email about the school from home stuff, I haven't read it but you need to look at it and get the boys ready for tomorrow her: what did it say? me: I didn't read it, read it and get the boys ready for tomorrow her: what time to they need to start? me: I don't know, read the email her: what are they going to do? me: I don't know, read the email her: how does it work? me: I don't know, read the email her: how long is it? me: I don't know, read the email her: what subjects are they going to cover? I finally just walked out of the room. There was a guy that killed his wife the other day. I don't condone it, but I completely understand.7 points
