I find all of the angst about Murphy to be laughable. After Ewers, he's the guy I've been cheering for Texas to land for 3 weeks. Texas has a healthy QB room right now and that isn't going to change. Wright is a high-floor guy who signed knowing that one of Thompson or Card would be there the entire time. Lourd matches the same. I'm sure one of Card or Thompson will transfer after the spring, and I get that, and I still think the QB room heading into this signing class will be healthy. So with that, take the fucking guy that has an elite asset in his repertoire. Always give me the guy with elite assets in some extreme manner versus the guy that's pretty well-rounded and generally above average. In Murphy's case, he has 3 elite fucking assets: 1) an NFL whip - this isn't arguable and is probably the best in the country in this class and a top 3-5 arm going backward in classes by 5 years; 2) size - he may be a big target, but give me the guy that can take a hit, stand tall and still make the throw; 3) he represents the surest path to a legitimate, sustainable pipeline to CA, which is a fucking fantasy this board and its predecessors has had for 2 decades. Compare that to Ewers and Ewers wins out. Compare that to Klubnik and Murphy wins. I don't give one fuck if it is going to hurt Todd Dodge's feelings, the aggie clan named Klubnik, or the Westlake honks that hover over the outskirts of UT fandom like fucking gargoyles. Klubnik is a long strider with mechanical issues of his own. Let him go be whiteboy awesome somewhere else and I'll take my chances. I have zero concern about taking Murphy, CJ Williams, and Hyphen from CA. Shit, are people fucking insane? Yes take those guys if you can get them. Williams is a big possession WR? Fucking great. He's a high character, charismatic guy as well. Get Thompson and Stewart to take the top off of defenses and he's fine as a possession take. Got plenty of DBs in Texas this go-round? Great. Sign 4 of them and take Hyphen. Suddenly we're real again in CA. Maybe we can find a couple of OLBs/DEs/ILBs to follow along from out there as well. Texas HS coaches might generally get mad? Fuck those room temp IQ assholes. They haven't done a fucking thing for Texas football on their own, ever. If Texas wins, getting who we want in the state will not be a function of HS coaching support, but it will certainly happen. Give me all of that shit, plus the ability to mock Nahlin, Fatfuck Ketchum, and handwringers on this site along with it. Fucking A right.63 points

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but seems that the definition of "high-floor" and "low-floor" has been turned around.27 points

I’m 44 years old and have never been a member of a political party nor do I have a desire. But listening to this, God damnit, If I have to pick a fucking side and wear a badge upon my sleeve, I choose the side that at least has the gumption to stand up against this glaring and treacherous ass fuckery.25 points

When Trumpers riot and send its people, they're not sending their best. They're sending people that have lots of problems and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.21 points

To be clear, this kind of neg against the program will have a very short life. There is data out there around it and more being put together regarding impressional reach and impact from university brands, and forecasts, and so forth. Texas and a few others are inarguably head and shoulders above the pack. The SEC pitch right now and going forward will be about repetition of eyeballs and depth of coverage. However, that is somewhat isolated to a specific region, and that region isn't incredibly valued from a buying demographic perspective if you wish to be associated to premium and/or luxury brands. The other open issue that impacts NIL is where things go, if anywhere, with realignment. Texas is covered en masse when it sucks, and overcovered when it's on fire, so the brand and impact stand on their own, but any potential alignment towards a coast would be a pretty big fucking deal. I've been reading a lot on the NIL stuff, but the volume of content, and the categories of the content on this subject is currently overwhelming and much of it is inconclusive. One of the discussion items in articles going back to the beginning of this is that of the furthering of disparity in college sports. Oddly, there's less concern about what a 4 team playoff is doing to the sport than there is what NIL rights will do for certain schools. Almost always, and I mean damned near everytime, in the examples of risk for unbridled NIL rights for players are Texas, USC, and Notre Dame. These are 2 down teams and another yoked to all kinds of circumstantial problems, yet they're what drives worry from both the media and the politicians, at least in interview exemplary form. My view is that the SEC and Big 10 remain pretty fucking good at manipulating the narratives. That shit is planted. Are Bama and Ohio State any different? Michigan? Not really, but let's not talk about that. They do not want those Texas, USC, and ND having unlimited rights for their players to leverage all assets and coverage, because in many minds, this shit will flat out dwarf what shithole schools like Auburn and Ole Miss are able to do for uncles with under the table dollars. For different reasons, Texas, USC, and Notre Dame will be disproportionately advantaged in NIL and I don't see how the sport is able to get around it. Nor do I want the sport to get around it.20 points

Nahlin: Anyone with firm convictions on Maalik’s ability is fooling themselves. Now here is a million words on his ability. I think part of that grumpiness comes from their frustration about their lack of sources with this staff. They got lapped in the coaching search, now they wrote that class prediction article last week where they said the QB take would be Ewers or Klub and downplayed the Murphy possibility. A week later it looks like we are on the verge of taking Murphy's commitment and instead of coming to terms with getting scooped again looks like they want to frame it as a surprisingly questionable take.18 points

golfclap is correct regarding UT's work on NIL, which they've been correctly and purposefully silent on so far. This isn't primarily a sports performance issue. It's got legal, branding, financial, and strategic shit in nature to consider. Texas has resources in that regard that others do not, along with an interest. Stanford has allegedly also been pretty diligent for similar reasons. It's not just football or even sports. There's an overall brand ethos, plus a tech evolution, plus a digital evolution, and all of those swirl together to form a special form of forward-looking chaos into where all of this is going to go and who will find the biggest and most sustainable ways to win. Nick Saban can't will Alabama into being a forerunner on this one. Hell, the entirety of the SEC is somewhat fucking paralyzed around the whole thing and basically begging congress, any congress, to figure something out. The SEC also has the most to lose on this regarding the underground element of the college sports realm. Their willingness to aggressively and brazenly cheat as a table stakes premise in their region goes decidedly flaccid in terms of relative value if NIL is implemented in ways in which the full force of monetizing it are allowed. Not surprisingly, they're already the conference voicing the most concerns about "getting NIL right", which translates roughly into "limiting its impact."15 points

The Capitol Police got a bad wrap back when this happened. The footage the last two days looks like battle from the old Greek City States. For hours those men and women fought, and doubt was brought upon them by some footage of some officers fraternizing with terrorists. I now suspect that the fraternizing cops were likely so badly outnumbered that they were trying to defuse the violence. It's been a bad year for police reputations. These cops acted heroically and deserve recognition. Watching how close we came to having a mob tear apart elected representatives makes me so sad and so very furious. The inciter of the violence needs to meet an appropriate fate. He will be better off that we in the Cloak Room won't decide that fate.13 points

It seems like there's two potential connections that stand out, May Manning or David Morris. May is the oldest of Cooper's three kids, and she graduates from high school this spring. Based off no real evidence, the pick could be UT. I didn't really dig too far into this for obvious reasons. This could be a big connection, but it doesn't feel like a "pretty fucking big" connection. David Morris was Eli's backup at Ole Miss for four years. He founded a quarterback training and development company called QB Country. Steve Sarkisian currently follows the QB Country twitter account (I couldn't find any personal twitter account for David Morris). The NY Times reported that "since he was in junior high school, Arch Manning has worked at times with a quarterback coach named David Morris" in the following article: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/26/sports/football/arch-manning-high-school-recruitment.html . According to Morris's bio on the QB Country website ( https://qbcountry.com/mobile-al/ ), he trained Eli in his offseasons. So there's a good connection there with Arch and the Manning family, but in order to make it a "pretty fucking big one" maybe Morris will be offered a position at UT?12 points

I’ve been to a few cowboy churches over the years. I never had a problem with them. Dogma was sound with no craziness. Mostly just country folks and some working hands there. I was the city slicker and the congregants didn’t bat an eye. Like anywhere else, I’m sure you can find CC pastors that are enriching themselves. That’s nothing new. Bernard and Brisket love their narratives.12 points

Without going into a bunch of details yet, yes, there are connections and there is going to be a pretty fucking big one soon with UT as well. The hype is obviously due to the family, but anyone who has actually seen the dude play thinks he's about as close to a surefire NFL prospect as you will see at his age. Was Byron Leftwich nonathletic? Daunte Culpepper? Ben Roethlisberger? I think guys that get that fucking big that fast get kind of saddled with a certain view about their general athletic abilities irrespective of reality. The dude sure as fuck isn't Ryan Mallett or Payton Manning unathletic.11 points

Texas is the top dog in social media on an annualized basis, rivaled basically by Clemson. You took the single month in which 3 other teams played in the CFP and used it as a definitive premise, and that is incorrect. If you're going to take a position like that, do the work to verify it.11 points

BT, I'm just gonna say that certain non-urban areas are much less racist than suburban and urban areas. Is this the rule, no. But there are a lot of areas that are an exception. A lot of division is not based on race around here. It is based on friendship, business, and treating each other with decency. Our high crime area is about 95% white trash meth heads. THAT is the worst characteristic/demographic you can have in Hood County, and that disappointment crosses every racial strata. You had every advantage, and chose what you decided to be. People are disgusted with choices, not race, around here. Our minority population is an asset. The stadium is named after one of the few African-Americans to ever live here. Everybody loves him, and loves our Hispanic population. A lot of our Hispanic population is in the top 50% of wage earners, and ALL of our African Americans are. Guess what? Our median income isn't something to brag about, if it wasn't for retirees, it would probably be much lower. Our concrete workers make $50k/year, and I'm talking about the laborers. These are successful people, and they work harder than most, and people realize that and admire it. These people are welcomed with open arms at all of the churches around here. What makes this rural county Red, isn't racism, it's bigger than that (while acknowledging it's still a national problem). It is all 2nd amendment. LEO can be at your door in 5-7 minutes, or less (an urban benefit, and why the voting result map looks like it does). It takes them 25-30 for me. Am I supposed to fight them hand-to-hand for 30 minutes till the cops get there? Might makes Right. The cops don't show up to protect you, they show up to take statements and send the loser to the morgue. CHIEF11 points

Quick question for Sark: Hypothetically, of course. Your offense has played like shit for 55 minutes, but has somehow managed to catch fire, along with the D, and absolutely dominated the opponent for the last five minutes. With only seconds left, your team has scored to pull within one point. The opponents are dazed, back on their heels, appear to be demoralized and uncertain. Do you (A) kick the extra point and go for overtime, or (B) go for two and the win, right now?10 points

Not really. They have a stud ready to make it real, and ... fuck it. The other guy can enjoy the shithole. There is a lot of consternation out there about taking an OOS guy at QB in year one, but I have a lot of consternation about the lead guy in this state willing to commit career suicide by going to OSU where they haven’t developed a QB since it seems like Art Schleister. Not talking about picks, just players. Anyway, fuck’em if they can’t take a joke. I’m no fan of Klubnik. I’ll take Murphy and others in the wave of momentum with him. At least it will be interesting. Either way, seems like it’s happening, full Ron Paul-style.10 points

TFB posting his photo in what was commented by a poster previously to look like a commit video followed by Baizer (TFB) and Blue's (Anderson's cousin) recent comments. Anderson now has 3 relatives tied to the Horns (Locke, Beasley, and Blue) and is the type of commitment we should be winning. Just seems like that's the direction all of the info is pointing.9 points

Jesus. I step away from this thread for a few hours and come back to a massive shit show of people jumping off a bridge thinking that the signing of a five star QB from an elite school in CA is going to be a terrible decision. I was about to punch thru my monitor until CTJ finally shut those shit takes down. Good grief this board needs its own psychiatrist.9 points

It appears that you have labeled a large group of people who you don’t actually know as being racist. I guess your basis for this claim is that they identify as cowboys, or country folk, or merely that they are different from you and therefore must be less woke and more evil. If you have some factual basis for your accusations then let’s hear it. Otherwise you are just making up stereotypes to help fill the world with fake enemies for yourself to look down upon. I have never been to a cowboy church, don’t drive a truck, don’t own a cowboy hat. I don’t care about them but it irks me to watch people fling shit at other people all the time with no remorse. How are we supposed to come together as a country when people think like this? Maybe try looking for the good in other people for once instead of assuming every group unlike yourself is inherently evil.9 points

Bernard, The county population is well over 60k at this time, and most of the new additions to demographics are minorities. I'll agree that we have a very small Black population in Hood County. You are right that it is very hard for people to be racist with that few black people. How is that a bad thing? Anytime you can curb racism by any means, is that not a good thing? Why would you assume that a larger Black population would make people more racist? I have a friend that comes over here about every week. His Dad left him an old boat that has sentimental value. I met him through my son. He is an absolute cool dude, but he won't bring his wife. The reason, he says, she is poisoning good people by accusing them of being racists and bigots. Fuck, most people don't know enough minorities around here to be bigoted or racist. You are what you are until proven different. My immediate community's demographic is probably 50% military, these fuckers are from all over the Globe. A lot of Hood County is like that, closest rural county to Lockheed Martin. I have so many good friends, that are just that, don't care about the color, the income, religion, sexual preference, gender, part of the country any of that. I just don't know why people that would welcome you as a Christian brother or Sister are so judged and reviled. Some of you have so much hate and venom in your heart that you can not accept that people not like you would celebrate your acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Bernard, I know where you stand, your heart has been filled with bitterness for Christians since I've known of you. I pray that you find comfort and know that many in here love you and hope you find salvation, peace, and mercy, and I fully expect all of the "fingers" that come with that. CHIEF8 points
